Yamaha bb424 - Pics Added - Bargain Recuced Price
thepurpleblob replied to CyberBass's topic in Basses For Sale

Think I have it something like - it was just that Eb to E bit that threw me. It doesn't sound like any kind of bass I have heard. Don't do picks unfortunately so a softy version will need to suffice! Cheers!
-
Anything... it's only a bass. Only bass players care about what a bass sounds like. It's all about moving air about
-
There's ghost notes in it? That would explain a lot. I haven't the slightest clue what's going on in the chorus
-
OK - ta. The riff in the chorus is pretty obvious but I didn't know what was going on with the verse. A lot of this ancient stuff (it's older than me and that's saying something) has the bass almost inaudable in the mix it seems.

Asked to learn C'mon Everybody amongst others. To be honest, I'm a bit stumped. I neither like nor have an ear for this 50s stuff and I can't tell which instrument is the bass!!! What's that 'clicky' sound in the intro and under the verse? Is this slapping an upright or something. Anyway... any tips on how to play this stuff appreciated. Or I could just run away

Recommendations for a cheapo 5 String Bass?
thepurpleblob replied to Mr Fretbuzz's topic in General Discussion
A used Yamaha TRB-5. 19mm string spacing which is unusual but you may or may not think is a good thing! -
are there any super bands with poor bass players?
thepurpleblob replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
We seem to be mixing up "poor" with "virtuoso". Most of the people who are getting mentioned are playing reasonably tasteful notes that fit and playing them in time - at least. I would call 'poor' someone who noticeably can't play. -
What do you keep your cables and other tat in?

Aluminium briefcase thing. -
BMW X3 over here. Can get a remarkable amount in the thing and doesn't get stuck in the snow. I also have a 7-series which has a cavernous boot, but that's a bit silly unless you particularly want one!!
-
I just see it as a finish - if you like it then what harm does it do. Why you would pay extra for some dude with a belt sander is a mystery though.

I am lucky enough to have such a thing. Unfortunately, it has 5 large cabs in it at the moment which wasn't exactly my intention. Other than that... A desk, an imac, a mixer, a BassPod, a (hi-fi) amplifier, some decent Tannoy monitors, some decent headphones and a rat's nest of wires. Basses are on hooks on the wall. A decent seat. My biggest tips are some good monitor speakers so you can actually hear stuff and take the trouble to find something comfy to sit on. If I every get rid of all the cabs (anyone want a cab...) I'd like a bit more desk space to sit my soldering iron and some tools too.

Yeh - get it on some sort of 0% credit card or similar deal. I know you say you don't want credit but one day you might *need* credit and then you'll have no credit history. Assuming you don't want it on principal rather than you know you have no self-control btw? In the current economic climate, I wouldn't just give a shop money and hope they were still there in 6 months. Too risky!

The very very first man-minis had a built in modem (as in the picture above). It takes a standard 'rj-11' connector to a telephone socket. They dropped that and the later ones only have the rj-45 standard network plug which is a different thing although it looks similar. If you want to connect that to a phone socket you need a USB modem adaptor. However, both are incredibly unlikely these days. Nobody at all uses dial-up modems. SO... what is it, exactly, that you are trying to do??

lowballing .. definition and .. is it insulting ?
thepurpleblob replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
This is a public online forum, right? Somewhere one should be allowed to air their point of view without ridicule? In my case, the low-ball I recieved I found to be insulting. Why cant some of you see that? Just because I hold a belief, does that allow those of you who dont agree with it to disrespect it? I joined this thread to air my personal POV, not to be taken to task over it! Enjoy your day, gentlemen.
Ooohhh... touchy It strikes me that if you air your personal POV on a public forum then you are going to have to expect some diverse opinions. I didn't see anybody having a go at you - just voicing alternative opinions. To which, as you rightly point out, we are entitled. Like lowballing offers - you are at liberty to disregard them, naturally. -
No such thing as a wrong bass line (or any line) - just different to someone else's version.
You've not heard me play then - obviously -
lowballing .. definition and .. is it insulting ?
thepurpleblob replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
Can you be insulted by someone you don't know and have never met? Other than that, it's just someone making an offer you are going to refuse. What are you planning on doing with your indignation? -
Yet another self-centred moan...

chocolate starfish in the pub.....
thepurpleblob replied to bassintheface's topic in General Discussion
Yeh - something similar happened to me last year with the bass player from another band. He kept turning up at rehearsals (at the time we rehearsed in the back room of a pub) and gigs and giving me a hard time about my playing. In the end my wife just about knocked him out and then flung him out of the door of a pub we were playing in. She has her uses Just sounds like another prat to me. You get them unfortunately.
