i used diago power supplies for a long time very well made a work well, but as my board has been growing to a crazy side i upgraded to the gigrig system, its a bit pricey but so easy to supply any type of pedal and the load it can take is huge!!! andy
So, I received my OB1 500 today and have just returned from a quick workout with our guitarist and drummer. What a disappointment! Hated the tone. Mids way too prominent and to my ears, just all 'honk' which I couldn't eliminate. In spite of the marketing of an active EQ, we found the range from the clean section of the amp to be pretty limited. I played through with my P and J basses, with no effects at all. It does the distorted thing great when the gain is cranked but I could never see me using that in our set. Enjoyed a quick run through Ace of Spades for old time's sake The unit itself feels very sturdy and weighty and it isn't going to budge from your cab; thought the knobs though were a bit cheap feeling. For comparison, we alternated heads to contrast with the V4 and I must say, in my opnion, that has a much more rounded, fuller tone which is not harsh unlike this one. I still have the problem of not enough power with my V4, so considering possibly PF800 + cabs, TH500 or wait for reviews on the Mesa Subway. Any thoughts or advice would be really welcome.
thing is if your looking for the same tone as the ampeg head you'll be disappointed, even tho they are active eq, if it similar to the otb they dnt do a lot, they do a little. the if i rem correctly the v4 is all valve? and i hate to say it IMO nothing really sounds like valves pre amp dirt is nice but having the power tubes there add a extra something to the mix, for me a nice warm thick bottom end! i dnt know if any of these have been suggested but my favorite two amps of all time! both played with either my own or loaner 610hlf are the aguilar db750 which is an absolute beast of an amp! yes its heavy but really does sound great i went from a svt pro 8 to the db and still got a really nice peg kinda sound, joint first would be my current amp, the ashdown ctm100! it will do clean with a bit of bite, an bit of grind or crazy overdrive filth! and is loud! dnt let the 100w scare you of but if it does! they do a 300w. andy -
holy crap! the Rat King is wicked! did a quick video showing some tones! i also have found a very nice dirt sound combining my Rat King and Demon! andy
Thanks for the input. I've looked at the pdi09 before. How does a speaker SIM differ to a di then? Thanks
Di is a pretty straight and level signal, the Palmer would be taking the same kind of signal but from between head and cab, but would add an eq that would emulate the input signal going thru say a 412, For me tho if you run the pa your self or always use your gear cab included I'd try and grab a decent drum mic, I've got a couple of akg 112 they cost 90 quid brand new and sound very nice with heavy fuzz sounds. However if you are using your head but a dif cab every gig then the Palmer would be a better choice as you'll know what your getting
-
hey man, are you di'ing into the pa? i think fuzz sounds so much better through a cab with a mic in front, much less harsh and bee sounding andy

ive got a mxr phase 99 which is insane! two phase 90's in one box! but also have used the Eqd grand orbiter which is also very cool! andy

so gas hit this morning! looking around as i do at pedals and i stumbled on a Rat king, had to be done, they sound awesome on line, i know not everyone's taste but i love Ryans stuff, i have had a Heliotropic (which i loved but just couldnt squeeze on to the board) and currently have a demon (previously oh see demon) on my board with the boost/gate mod and i can tell you thats going no where! and on order his awesome ssounding trem/fuzz the Cicada Fuzz. so i probs count as a Fuzzrocious fan boy! this will be going on to a new board that im building up so that i can switch things up for different projects as im now in three bands. cant wait for this beast to arrive will wait and see but would at some point love to grab a new version so if i like this it might be getting upgraded to a new shiney Cat King. my new fave is the moog Clusterflux, however it is pretty pricey but so worth it! and sounds awesome! but also like the mxr and boss offerings -
Hi all my band "Six Sins till Sunday" headed into the studio last weekend to record a few tracks to do a short two track single/ep release. think they sound really good but would love feedback on them, they are for everyone! but im really happy with how the bass has come out! for being in a metal context i think my bass is a little higher in the mix than alot. heres the link to the bandcamp page were you can listen and hell even buy the track if you like them! please be warned tho the is some very explicit language so not safe for work or for playing around small children etc will sound best in headphones as we did some cool panning in some sections ;-) https://sixsinstillsunday.bandcamp.com/album/time-to-kill thanks for your time Andy

I had an ampeg 610 and Aguilar db750 so loud, could get a very nice ampeg grind (or close to) but it's taken me going through lightweight amps and cabs to finally work my way back to an ashdown CTM and 810. Maybe start with the amp, I had a mark bass tube 800 and it sounded pretty good with the 610 -
Moog Cluster Flux ( I've added a video!)

dnt judge the playing ok! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmCSvKXuN_U andy -
The min 4ohms load, probs means a total across both outputs, norm for every combo I've seen is an 8ohm can configure so you can add a second 8ohm cab. Andy

something about an 810! love mine would need a special cab to make me move mine on. andy -
there is alot to work out, plannign on trying it out on wednesday, recording a bit of audio for my youtube channel. but also using it as an experiment for recording later this month. planning on tracking a stack left and right and then having a cleanish di bass up the centre for some clean lows as the left and right are gonna be after the dirt etc so will give a fat sound, well we will see how it goes andy

Love it now I've had for a few weeks, have to ep-3 on the mix so can go from dry to fully wet easily and quickly, also means I can leave the moog on so that the drive nob is active. Such a nice sounding thing!! More moog in my future And as has been said this thing does way more than what it should be able to do!! This with the fuzzrocious demon or my cog Tarkin is just awesome.
