i went for the 100w ashdown head instead of the 300 as i want to be able to get the tubes working a bit, but im never lacking volume. if your in a loud metal band then yes 200 may be cutting it a bit close, but for pop acts or general covers ive seen alot of people using small combos around the 200/300w mark and into a pa then theres no problem. 0175westwood29 replied to pendingrequests's topic in Amps and Cabs
ive got a ctm-100 absolute beast of an amp! and for a all valve 100w head really not that heavy! use mine mostly with an 810 but last night used a 410 and it sounded awesome! andy -
EQ pedal - Good model suggestions? Before or after Fuzz/Dist?
0175westwood29 replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Effects
Worth looking into blend pedal for the muff to add in the lows, but for the rat maybe try and try out one of the modded rat based pedals, I love the fuzzrocious offering but they aren't for everyone -

The new Metallica album : news from Kirk
0175westwood29 replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
http://classicrock.t...ic-kirk-hammett Apparently it sounds a lot like Death Magnetic according to Kirk. Oh well - 7 years in the making (so far) and they are still in that territory. Also interesting to note that they are recording it piecemeal - Hetfield and Ulrich doing the drums and guitars in full, and then Kirk goes in to do his stuff. That sounds like a joyful experience, and will be a great reminder of why they wanted to be in band. I'll repeat myself, but somebody needs to tell them the King has no clothes on, and they need to stop doing gimmicky festival shows, with fans on stage, crapping on about 'the Metallica family' all the time, - rehashing the same set list they've done for 20 years, and give up the now almost complete descent into the Spinal Tap parody, 'chicken in the basket' casino circuit act. Get away from your families, your millionaire toys, your ass kissing personal assistants : get into a room, jam as a band, and give yourself a deadline by which you have to have it finished - and record it as a band - live, on analogue. I'd even suggest another Garage inc. would be a good starting point - get back to playing what you loved as a kid, and for the joy of doing it. Give the inevitable money to a charity. I feel like I'm watching an old friend kill himself through an addiction (in this case to bullshit and ego), and can do nothing to help. Intervention required. Very sad.
i think the rehashing an old set list is harsh, they havent played the same set in quite sometime! yes there are similar songs as they have to do the hits. im interested to hear there new stuff, death magnetic was not a bad album, there i said it! people need to deal with the fact robs in there and writing. atleast metallica are open to trying different things, having the fans on stage is i think a good idea what a memory for those fans?
used to have one way back when. i see he has a volume mod, needs it, was unusably loud before!!
absolutely!

selling my Rat King as ive downsized to a Rat Tail. this one has the feedback switch as well as the standard bypass and switch to go between Gain 1 and Gain 2. its like new theres velcro on the back where its been on my board aswell. its not the plain metal it looks in the pic, theres a clear coat with a bit of sparkle to it. £105 posted, Andy

Im turning into a right Fuzzrocious Fan boy and im not even sorry! http://fuzzrociouspedals.com/product/tremorslo/ this this sounds really nice, its similar in a way to the cicada but with out the fuzz. dual speed and the tone control is a really cool addition. cant wait for mine to turn up! Andy
Thorpyfx muffroom cloud. Mine arrives on Monday!
have seen this but for me its not getting me excited, im trying to work out how the mids in the stache work as for me they are key! in a metal/doomy band its really needed to be heard in the mix. the lows in the tfr are crazy but again hows it sit in a mix with heavy guitars? Andy
Had a stache and sold it. It seemed pretty decent but I found it got a bit lost. In terms of the heavy chorus and octave use, me too... I find the COG stuff works well with those and also the Dwarfcraft eau Clare / silver rose. Black arts pharaoh seems a good shout for the bass too.
got myself a tarkin on the board already ;-)

So my boards pretty big! but im thinking of adding another flavour of fuzz, im thinking either wren and cuff TFR or Fuzzrocious grey stache basically something muff based? ive listened to alot of demos of them they both seem heavy as hell! but how do they take being layered with other effects, i use octaves and chorus heavily but also like to stack drives. anyone care to share there 2 cents? Andy

sometimes a bit of drive will help, maybe something to fatten like a chorus or when the guitarist hits a solo try playing something a bit dif to the normal riff andy
