Maybe get a lightweight cab but keep the amp? i always find heavy cabs more of a pain in the back (pun not intended) than the amps themselves because it involves wrestling with them and other such things. Keep the head on top of the cab so it doesn't involve too much bending and just get a lightweight cab.

shame it's a nice bass, makes it all the worse for having to send it back!

we need more pics of yours! i have a bit of a thing for conklin, but they don't make a lot of 4 strings
-
I'd whip mine out but i've already been given a caution Nice bass by the way i haven't seen many conklins on here, though i understand there are a fair few with them on talkbass

I usually buy BGM but ever since they went monthly they've just gone downhill for me. Had a look at it a couple of months ago, an interview with flea, big woop. Didn't buy it. Had a look today, no interviews with anyone i've ever heard of and no reviews of anything much under £2k Except a peavey head/cab. Again, didn't buy it.

All the numerous fender clones, for one thing, certain manufacturers need to be slightly more original on the design front *cough*alleva coppolo, and is a £3k super jazz REALLY that much better than an £800 american fender? i get that it might be better, but is it really 2 grand better? And surely the things that make it 'better' are pretty much subjective anyway, such as feel and sound. For instance the nicest playing and sounding strat (i know, guitar) i've ever touched, was a classic vibe squier, and they're moddable anyway. [/rant] fenders... owned one, didn't see what the fuss was about, bought a warwick... heaven!
Cannot stand small bodied bass guitars. It a bass, not a guitar.
Can't stand large bodied bass guitars, they're supposed to be for playing, not wrestling with.

the only couple of 35" basses i've played, i've noticed a big difference in playability due to that extra inch, though the sitting position could have been part of the problem.

ahh cool, my warwick is june '06
I think the British Pub / Venue scene is in decline anyway due to the price of alcohol. Its a rip-off and puts people off going to gigs. Asking people's ethnic background is just pure idiocy. How can that be legal? Surley the anti-discrimination laws could make this illegal?
I thought that too
suppressing the forms of music that black and Asian teenagers enjoy – dubstep, hip hop, ragga, and the rest
What's that supposed to mean? I know plenty of white people into that sort of thing, just shows that the government and the media know nothing about music.
I live an hour from bighton so GAK is always an option (they're great there as far as I can tell!). But my local one which is basically an ASDA for musicians is pretty bad. I usually go in to see what new effects they have in, and to have a go on them. The usual guy there is a nice guy - obviously knows his stuff. But, i do find it quite annoying when he/they ask you for what bass you want to use (thats easy - american jazz) and then go and plug me into a bl***y trace elliot!! I use ashdown (ok, they wouldn't know, but they dont even ask what amp i want to use - and clearly don't understand that an effect sounds different through different heads) And then, (not as bad) they presume that the tone from a MAG-300 with 410s is the same as a mag-1000 with a 115. Is it too much to ask to try an effect out with near to my rig? Especially if they have it in stock. Actually, I have a confession. I left a bass standing upright against an amp *ducks* It was perfectly secure, though. But I don't think the guy there was too happy about it being there... I do agree with almost everything that has been said - except the whole 'dont try it if you don't think you're gonna buy it' thing. Most of the time, I can't really save up over £100 unless I KNOW that I'm saving up for something specific. So when I go in and try out (over a few weeks) 200 crummy effetcs, and then i try out a really nice auto-wah-fuzzing-blowtorch (now THAT would be cool), then I know to save money i.e. I save up money, then go into a shop and buy something. I usually Go into a shop, try out the stuff, get GAS, go home, come back a month later and then buy it. I don't agree with the whole over-18 policy. I'm 16, and when I was 15 I bought (in a year) a fender american standard jazz bass (£769), an ashdown MAG-300 (£500ish) and an EHX BMS (£170ish). I would have quite comfortably gone without my parents if it wern't for the fact that i needed some way to lug the stff back home. But again, when I first tried out all of that I was completely broke. But then money came through and WAHOO! </rambling>
Did you not think to ask to try a certain rig? or even more obvious, why not bring your own bass? when they see you have a US fender they will know you mean business. It shouldn't be like that, but it is.
In my opinion, any larger music store should have specialist staff - end of story.
The sound control i went into did, if i wanted a bass related item, i'd talk to one guy, and one guy only, and a very nice guy he was too.

The bass cellar - denmark street
is there a website for the Bass Cellar? If you google them this thread is the first listing
hahaha, good. Maybe that will shut them down for good! -
I agree with the OP, you should be allowed to try things out if you ask, but that's just it, it's rude not to ask. Even if there's no sign saying "please ask before trying", i still do it. It's polite. I always take off anything with zips etc too. I can understand what the staff are feeling, particularly if it's not a large corporate chain and is family owned or something.
