1.
Balls - sorry Budget Bassist, I hadnt read the ad properly, I didnt realise it was fretless. Nice bass tho, as the last guy said, Id have had it if it was fretted. Sorry again, but in the words of those appalling 'Dragons' - "Im out!"
no worries
2. For sale is a Squier VMJ fretless in immaculate condition, there some small surface scratches on the back from playing, but nothing deep/particularly visible, and no dents. I'm asking for what I paid for it, £150 plus postage, though I would prefer collection from Bangor, north wales if possible, or nottingham in a few weeks when I come home for christmas. NOW SOLD I'm looking for a straight sale for now, though I may be interested in a part exchange (money my way) on a Sansamp BDDI or similar (Aguilar Tonehammer etc). Apart from that, I'm not interested in trades. I'll get some photos up, if OBBM doesn't mind me using his, but it's basically mint as I've hardly used it, hence the sale. edit: pics up
3. interested in a part exchange with a squier VMJ in great condition with some cash my way?
4. I don't buy and sell on here purely to make a profit, however if i want to move a piece of gear on, i'll sell it at what i perceive to be the market value. I'll buy and sell on ebay for a profit, but not on here. That's not to say I wouldn't buy something a for a good price, intending to play it, and then sell it off for a profit a few months later, having not gotten on with it as well as i would have hoped. I've done that once before in a big way, and i contacted the previous owner about it, and he was fully aware of the value of the bass and totally happy for me to do so, as was the buyer. As it's basschat though, i'm more than happy for people to haggle a little, as you guys say, it is a community. I can't afford to let things go for silly prices though, so i don't. If i was better off, then maybe i would be more generous, but that's mot the case, and i'm sure many people on here can appreciate that.
5. Phwoar, bet that shifts some air!
6.
Shep
I'm amazed you fit all that lot in there and had any room for punters! Seriously!
7.
You don't know the 20th may not prove to have much commitment yet... Tait - can you also add the proposed fate above the list on post one for reference?
Don't worry about it, there's a total of about three weekends between now and april in which I'll actually be in Nottingham, all of which are around christmas/new year.
8. I'll definitely not be there then, hope you guys have a good time anyway.
9. Post removed by moderator - Understandable response but please inform a moderator in future.
10. The Grosvenor was fine the both times i went there, however I'm currently at university in North Wales and won't be back until Christmas (just responding because Luke sent me a PM), so unless it's between the 20th of dec and the 10th of Jan, I won't be there. Don't let me influence whatever weekend you decide to have it though.
11.
It does indeed. I'd reckon it's ash, though. Really. Don't think Fender made the Jazz with alder back then. Doubt it. But if that's what the ad says. But, in any case, see post 36.
From the grain, it looks a lot more like alder than ash, to my eyes.
12. Pretty nice, and I imagine it would take some serious craftmanship to get those tops to match together perfectly like that
13.
Is it normal for the machine heads to look so dull and oxidised in a Fender of this age? Or is that some kind of "custom finish"?
Given that it's 36 years old... I would assume so.
14. My streamer $$ (though that combination of natural and chrome hardware is definitely not my first, but beggars can't be choosers).
15. Fair enough, looks like a cool bass anyway I had a tribby L2k very similar to yours, was an absolute tone monster!
16. Was that black one owned by a BC member? I seem to remember someone having something similar...
17. Fender HW1 basses have nitro finishes that i hear wear pretty quickly.
18.
My advice would be to spend time trying jazz and precision necks. A lot of people find Jazz necks more comfortable and easier to play, but a lot don't. I prefer Precision necks. Jazz necks feel cramped to me with the narrower string spacing near the nut. Neither is inherently easier to play - its just what you find most comfortable.
This, I prefer jazz necks, myself. However I don't like how large the bodies are (same with any Fender bass really). You just need to try stuff and see what sound/feel you prefer. You can get jazzes with precision width necks and vice versa, and the neck pockets are all the same size anyway, so the necks are interchangable.
19. Phwoar, that 20th SR5 is stunning, I've lusted after one of those since they came out, unfortunately I probably would never get on with the neck.
20.
Serious?! I love the neck on mine! Mind you, I loved the neck on my Dad's old Mexican Precision, and thats essentially what this is.
Yeah, it's one of the main reasons for getting rid of that stingray and SUB I had, I like skinny necks.
21. The original SUB5 pickup is exactly the same as a stingray 5 pickup, you won't get closer to a stingray sound than that. (though the 'ray 5 did recently change from ceramic to alnico or alnico to ceramic, can't remember which way, either way it's essentially the same pickup)
22.
My newly acquired Mark Hoppus!
Sweet, I tried one of those once, really nice bass, except the neck...
23.
Even though the bass has sold previously on here for a very low price (sure Gaf was gutted) I'd say it's worth about what you paid for it! In an ideal world the NT Streamers should be selling for about a price mid way between a Euro and a USA Spector, alternatively about 33% less than new price (+/- 10%) and the BO/LX Streamer should be a bit less than a Euro Spector or about 25% behind the Streamer NT. However we don't live in an ideal world and Warwick prices are massively variable; hence it's a case of throw a price out there and see if anyone bites!
What you said, if it wasn't a Warwick, lt would be worth a lot more, but that's just how these things go. It's probably worth hanging on to, to be honest.
24.
i find this hard to accept about the truss rod experiences on here - That a guitar of such obvious build quality has this flaw with its truss rods - Really??? I guess even more so as I feel I am edging towards an eventual Warwick purchase..
If you strip the nut on the truss, you're doing something VERY wrong. I've made a couple of minor adjustments to mine with absolutely no drama at all.
