GK 700rbII failing during my set lastr night
Etienne replied to Master blaster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Sorry to hear you've been having trouble! I own a 1001RB-II and (touch wood) have had no issues with it so far. Yep, the fuses are a good place to start. I'm assuming here that you've already tried to use the amp since it happened, and that it's still lifeless... What happened exactly when it cut out? Did the amp feel excessively hot at the time, or were there any burning electrical smells coming from it? -
Wow, that's one properly sorted Roscoe Beck there! I owned and regularly gigged a sunburst RBV for several years myself, during which time I pretty much came to the same conclusion with the extra string tree, electronics and scratchplate. Some really well-chosen mods here that no doubt vastly improve an already great bass. That replacement bridge looks SO much better than the clunky standard one- I bet it weighs half as much too! Good luck with the sale mate!

Yep! I'm in Aigburth, near Sefton Park.

I have got to try one of these out sometime soon... I'm intrigued! BTW, I noticed that the bassist from Friendly Fires was/is rocking out on a T-40 (you could see/hear it in action in last year's Glastonbury coverage on the Beeb... Great sound! Not one of you lot by any chance, is it?!

Eddie's a lovely bloke, a great player and excellent singer in a busy, hard-working band (I know because my girlfriend's dad is their keys player!). I personally think you should keep this mate (because it's ace and you'll miss it), but then again, I can understand that a nice old Rick would be very difficult to resist... Good luck whatever you decide to do! Et -
That reminds me, I must submit a proper long-term review for my Compact in the New Year...
How does the Big One sound in Scouseland?
I wish I knew! Mike still hasn't been in touch with me to pass it on, so I've missed the opportunity to use it on several gigs this month- I just played my final gig for 2009 last night. I have no gigs booked for January so far, so if/when he gets back to me, I'll tell him to pass it straight on to you mate. I was made redundant a few days ago, so I have more urgent priorities for the New Year than testing this out anyway...

I'm very impressed with my recently-acquired 1001RB-II. I gigged it back-to-back with my Barefaced Compact last night and Friday, and was loving the tone with my Jazz Bass! A great sound that sits well in the mix without lots of tweaking, and LOTS of power to put it out there! In fact, it sounds superb with all of my basses- my Sansamp BDDI and VT Bass haven't seen much action since the G-K arrived! Just wish I'd tried this amp out sooner...

I'm disappointed I must say... thought this thread was going to be about the most effective method of wrestling a skinny-stringer to the floor... Might actually be useful in this kind of situation!
I too have been wondering about this! Who has it now and who's it going to next? Alex
It's still in the hands of Mike257 here in Liverpool at the moment as far as I know. I was ideally hoping to try it at a gig on December 12th (swapping my Compact with Mike for the weekend) but I know that Mike's had the Big One for quite some time already, and that there are other Basschatters waiting patiently for their turn... don't want to jump the queue! Let me know if anyone objects to me having a go next... if so I'll PM Mike and tell him to pass it straight on to the next person on the list (whoever that is).

Nice work Matski! I've got a big Squier-logo'd JV '57 P-bass, and it's killer. The necks on these are so nice to play...

I joined the G-K club quite recently when I bought my 1001RB-II head on here- I love it! I've finally found the tone I've been seeking with my Jazz Bass over the last few years, and my other basses sound fantastic through it too! Just wish I'd picked one up sooner...
I have a Veillette Archtop bass arriving very soon. Unlined fretless 5 string. Can't wait!
Wow, that's a beauty!

Nobody's mentioned the Epiphone Jack Casady bass so far- a very worthy contender! I've just bought one 2nd-hand, and I am seriously impressed with its gutsy sound! Can't wait to hear it with the flatwounds I plan to throw on this coming week... Just reread the first post Sibob- these are available in Sunburst, but you'd probably have to buy new to get hold of one! They don't come up that often, even in the most common gold top finish... well worth it though IMO!

Bump for a great amp and a great guy! This was mine previously (I bought it new from Machinehead in Hitchin), and the only reason I sold it to Paul was because I wanted just a bit more headroom- everything else was just perfect for me! I played countless real-world gigs with this over the course of several years, and it never let me down once! The only thing stopping me from buying it back now is the fact that I've blown my GAS fund on an Epiphone Jack Casady Bass... Good luck with the sale mate!

Thanks Andy! It's a sweet instrument, and sounded amazing at rehearsal tonight! Can't wait to try some flats on it next week...
-
Picked up Andy's Epiphone Jack Casady bass earlier this evening- what a fantastic instrument! Can't wait to use it at tomorrow evening's rehearsal... Bought from a nice, honest and knowledgeable guy with great taste in instruments and some good chat... As Brandon Flowers once sang... Andy, you're a star!

Think this is going to a new home down south! I'll update this post once Stevie's got his hands on it... -

Thanks for the interest guys! I reckon it's first come, first served for this... the sooner the better! Shinhoman: you're more than welcome to pick it up, but I need to hear back from you ASAP! StevieD: It could be done I suppose, but I'd prefer not to have to package the thing up! Whereabouts are you in relation to Milton Keynes? My folks live just outside of Newport Pagnell, and I'll be heading down to see them early next month- if it's not too much of a detour for me I could drop it off... Again, I'd need to hear back from you ASAP! -
I've had this knocking round my flat for ages- somebody please take this away and put it to use! Nothing fancy here- the cabinet's made of chipboard and covered with black carpet. There are cutouts either side for recessed handles, plus an additional hole for the input jack plate. The front is cut to accept a 12" woofer, a wide-mouth HF horn and a port. The grille is a sturdy steel job and fits snugly into the front of the cab. PM me if interested- I'm in Liverpool city centre. Etienne
