1.
I have taken this advice and put the precision neck on the dark star bass.. feels pretty good, going to try it at rehearsal this eve and see how it works.. SO the goldish coloured p body is now avalable with the jazz neck on it, looks pretty good too!
Good call my man! Hope it works out...
2. I'm in the same boat- would love to get this, but no spare cash either! I owned the 300W version for ages, and it really was great- I shouldn't have sold it... The design and build quality of these amps is fantastic, and they're very reliable too IME- I did plenty of gigs with my old LM300, driving it hard at both 4 and 8ohms, and it lapped it up... not even so much as a blown fuse in 5 years! Good luck with the sale mate!
3.
I just feel lucky to be able to play good music to people that appreciate it.
+1. I like this thread!
4. Just a thought- why don't you swap that P-bass neck over onto this, keep it and flog the Jazz neck with the PJ body instead? Win-win situation!
5. Duncan just took delivery of my Jazz bass body- another nice and easy transaction completed on BC! As with pretty much everyone I've dealt with on here, great comms throughout and prompt payment too... Don't forget to show us some pictures of the project when it's finished mate! Etienne
6.
Bought Etienne's old jazz body....easy transaction, arrived very quickly packaged to perfection. Exactly as described. A credit to the gear frenzied world that is BassChat
Thanks Duncan, it was a pleasure!
7. PM'd! EDIT: Now mine... thanks very much for dropping it round mate!
8. I own and regularly gig a 1001RB-II, but haven't heard or played through either the Aggie or the Orange (yet). Yes, the G-K can do bright tones if you want, but it's by no means a one-trick pony! There's serious amounts of midrange punch and bottom end in there too should you desire- IMO it's by far the most versatile amp I've gigged with. What I will say is that it's well worth reading the manual (available online) before trying one out for the first time, in order to understand how to get the best out of it. IME, knowing how the Volume (gain), Contour, Boost and Master controls all interact is crucial to getting a good tone. Once you're clued up though, it's fantastic! The 4-band active EQ is very flexible and covers a lot of ground- I personally find I don't need to use it that much though, as the basic sound is pretty much right on the money! Hope this helps, Et
9. That's a lot of amp for £300! I've got one of these and I love it...
10. +1. Top interview with a lovely bloke!
11. PRICE DROP : Now just £150 for the lot- please read re-edited 1st post! ***EDIT: NOW SOLD***
12. Cool... I'll take the '64 P then!
13. This is a great-sounding pickup- I remember trying out a MD bass a few years back and being really impressed with the tone. Bargain price too!
14. There's no 'Q' adjustment on the Shuttle 6's midrange- just cut/boost and freq. sweep (I used to run one). It might be worth looking at the EA (Euphonic Audio) Doubler if you can stretch your budget a bit further- similar power and weight to the Shuttle but designed (as the name suggests) specifically for bassists who gig on both electric and upright. Hope this helps! Et

16.
I am trying to find out what it was too. There a guy in Israel called Gil yaron who makes the most amazingly accurate replica guitars you will find. he mods his pots to get the correct vintage value. He hasn't said what they the values are though. It's why i would like to get my hands on an original circuit to check them!
I've seen some of his work- the guy certainly knows his stuff! I followed the build thread for that ultra-light translucent white Jazz Bass he made on the Telecaster forum a while back... he even made his own paper-in oil caps and the pickups from scratch! Insane... but great!
17.
The pots CTS make now are slightly different to what they were back then. they had slightly different values to the modern ones if I remember correctly.
Would be interesting to find out what the original spec was! I've got a pair of the CTS stack repros from Allparts installed in mine- they have a 250K pot for volume and a 500K pot for tone...
18. I've got one of the reissues- mine's a late-Nineties model fitted with Nordstrand NJ4 pickups. I personally love the stacked setup, particularly as I have incorporated a series/parallel switch into the circuit, which can give you a shed-load of additional tones whilst still keeping the passive vibe. That said, I've also got a Sadowsky preamp pedal which I kick in when I want to beef up the tone further! I've actually got a standard 3-knob Jazz control plate knocking about, so next time I do some tinkering I'll A/B it against the stack layout... My bass came with the notched knobs (which I didn't get on with), but it's very easy to remove the aforementioned washers underneath each stack, and revert to conventionally-operating tone pots. Here she is...
19.
Very nice indeed, I like the stacked knob look, what's the switch for?
It's a Series/Parallel switch- very useful!
20.
Have a bump on me. Great guy to deal with. R.
Thanks mate! And this is what the Jazz looks like now...
21. Hi everyone, Recently performed a body transplant on my late 90's Fender stack-knob Jazz, so this is now up for grabs! Main reason I swapped over was for comfort- although it's not exactly a back breaker, it was getting a little heavy on my shoulder at the end of of a 2hr+ gig! Right, here are the specs: -Body is stamped 'May 19 1999'. -2-piece alder construction. -Stripped by myself from the original Black nitro finish down to the sealer coat- I've gigged this loads since this was done, so the body is scruffy in places from where the sealer has come off, revealing the bare alder underneath. Personally I think it looks cool, but it wouldn't take much to prep this for a refin if that's what you wanted! -The body has been routed slightly to make the neck plate fit flush with the body. See pics! -The pickup and control cavities have been thoroughly and neatly copper-shielded (by myself)- this really makes a difference in dealing with RF noise, particularly if you also star-ground the electronics! -Weight: a smidge over 4.5lbs/2KG according to my fishing scales- not a featherweight, but by no means excessive either! -Comes with the original Tort scratchplate (copper-shielded on the back), a loaded 3-knob control plate complete with knobs, CTS 250K pots, tone cap & jack socket PLUS a pair of strap buttons with screws! ONE AND ONLY PRICE DROP: Now looking for just £150 (including mainland UK shipping) for the lot, which I think is a steal! No offers please, and after some thought, I'd prefer not to split the parts up either. If these don't sell at this price, I'll be using them as the basis for a new fretless build! ***ON HOLD- SALE PENDING!*** Local buyers can also collect from Liverpool city centre- I will revise the price accordingly. Please PM me if interested, extra info/pics available on request... thanks for looking! Et
22. I'd like to give the Midget a try too- would be great to compare the Midget/Compact combo to my twin Compact setup! Liverpool city centre
23. +1 on what the others said- you definitely made the right choice IMO mate! The G-K heads are hard to beat for live work- they just sit so well in the mix onstage. I just got back from St Tropez a couple of days ago after playing a wedding out there- I had a 800RB head and an old SWR Goliath II 4x10 hired in by a local PA company. It sounded absolutely massive with my Jazz Bass- one of the best live sounds I've ever had! Et
24.
Sold Etienne my Jazz Bass body, he's a joy to deal with. Many Thanks R.
Thanks Dave! I completed the body swap on Friday evening, and am very happy with the end result- the bass absolutely sings now! Will sort some pics soon...
