Bought a Jazz Bass body from Dave- very straightforward easy deal! Again, excellent communication throughout, and the goods were very carefully packed too. Now comes the fun part- swapping all the bits across from my Jazz's current body! Thanks mate, Etienne

Nice one mate! I'd love to try an 800RB out some time- how does the tone compare with the modern G-K heads (700/1001RB-II)?

Nice one Paul! Loving the tone I'm getting so far with this and my Jazz- will definitely be using it on the gig next Saturday!

I just bought Paul's Sadowsky preamp/DI pedal. A totally hassle-free deal with an excellent seller! Great communication via PM, carefully-packaged goods with super-quick shipping- I paid him yesterday afternoon, and he had it in the post a couple of hours later... it arrived this morning! The pedal is in super condition as described and sounds great too- highly recommended! Etienne

Hi folks, I've decided to move this fine pedal on, as most of the time I prefer to plug straight into my G-K head for live stuff these days! Most of you lot will know what the VT Bass does, so I won't go into details here. For more info, please visit Tech 21's site or read the extensive threads on Talkbass. I bought this from the now-closed Music Ground in Manchester over a year-and-a-half ago, and have gigged it on plenty of occasions since then, although you'd be hard-pressed to tell by looking at it! I didn't want to scuff up either the VT Bass or its Tech 21 'biscuit-tin' box, so I made a replica of my Sansamp BDDI's cardboard box out of a Carlsberg container to protect the pedal whilst gigging- it did a great job! Consequently, the VT Bass and all its packaging are pretty much in immaculate condition. The manual, warranty card, example settings cards, and Tech 21 bumper sticker are all present- I'll also throw in a Duracell 9V battery to get you started! I originally paid the full RRP of £149 for this back in late November '08 when these were new on the UK market (will include the sales receipt to prove). I'd like £95 for this, including UK postage- no offers please! ***EDIT: NOW SOLD*** Payment by bank transfer or Paypal- feel free to check my positive feedback here on BC! Please PM me if interested, thanks for looking! Etienne

Just completed my second faultless deal with Greg- this time with me as the buyer. Took delivery of a DiMarzio P-bass pickup earlier today (Tuesday), and after quickly hooking it up to test it out, I can say that I'm very pleased so far! A quality product at a great price, well packed and shipped very quickly too. Thanks a lot mate! Etienne

Thanks very much to both of you- those pickups are going to a good home! Et

I've been running a 1001RB-II since last October, and I love it- it's the best gigging amp I've owned by far. My two gigging basses (US '62 reissue Jazz and Squier JV P-bass) sound great plugged straight into the head, which is a winner with me- I like to keep the signal chain simple! Previously, I've always used a Sansamp BDDI ahead of the amp to get the sound I want (with the exception of my old Tech 21 Landmark head, for obvious reasons!), but the G-K gets me there on its own, and with far better control of the midrange too. I can always quickly find the sound I want on the gig- usually a few minor EQ tweaks are all I need from venue to venue. I know that some bassists find the layout of the front panel to be too cluttered with controls, but I've personally found it no problem to adapt. I find having the DI level control on the front of the amp to be very useful for adjusting FOH and stage levels independently mid-gig... great when you're doing your own sound! I've been running the 1001RB-II at 8ohms with a single Barefaced Compact for all the gigs I've done until now, and have rarely wanted more volume from this combination, even with hard-hitting drummers- it's a very loud setup! However, I've recently picked up a second Compact for a good price, and can't wait to put the pair of them through their paces with the G-K this coming week!

Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus- had to play it AGAIN at tonight's gig. The singer gets the stinkeye from me every time he calls it...

Thanks Eric, you're a star!

Crackle from the bridge pickup of a Jazz bass
Thanks Etienne! Its more of a background interference type noise, like a hissing/crackling when that pickup is selected and on full.
I suspect it's down to the pot rather than the PUP, particularly if the neck pickup is behaving itself (save the usual 60-cycle hum when soloed of course). Let me know if there's any improvement after trying the switch cleaner! -
Crackle from the bridge pickup of a Jazz bass
Etienne replied to Clarky's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi Clarky, what kind of crackling noise are you getting? Does the signal from the bridge PUP cut in and out at the same time, or is it more of a background interference kind of thing? Before you try anything drastic, get the control plate off and spray some switch cleaner directly into the bridge PUP volume pot casing (use some kitchen paper towel to soak up the excess trickling out as you do so), and give the knob several full turns in both directions. Also check that the solder joints to the pot are making a good connection. Hope this helps mate! Etienne
