Is it wrong that I would trade the missus for a tobias?
YouMa replied to oz of the bass's topic in Bass Guitars
Ill take your mrs after the trade you get,im trying to start a harem in the country here and its getting difficult choice wise,i dont have the tobias but ill swap her for a roland jupiter synth if your interested?,she will like it here we have a very decent standard of living and i grow organic vegetables and have a decent selection of fine wines, also i am very attractive to the opposite sex. -
I love valve amps but i know what you mean,it took me a while, when i thought it would be instant 60s groove i had dissapointment ,the valves could be on the way out i suppose,i keep meaning to build one but i am afraid of getting large ampage down my arm. The best amps are ones that dont colour the sound of your bass at all,im still looking for this one and my desk top pc and soundcard through monitors or a mixing desk has done this best so far. Im looking to try a sunn.
No mate, you're not on your own. Outstanding singer. Probably the best thing around at the time and not many since can match that voice. He went a bit weird in later years going all experimental with blokes banging watering cans and waste bins in the studio but the voice was still there. Most will call it old hat but when you hear Sun ain't gonna shine anymore, it can still get the old neck hairs rising. It was right up there with PJ Proby's Maria. And as you say, the productions were great, and BIG.
Come back wall of sound! Phil is innocent hes just a nutter! And Chirons big up from a fellow pink fairies fan, listened to nevernever land tonight,scorching.........

You can actually get nut files which are basically just needle files,do an internet search on needle files, then its just a case of filing the slots by eye.Just go easy on them.
Yes, Robbie Mcintosh. The guy had such a fantastic groove. He was an accident waiting to happen though. I never saw him sober (staggering usually!), but it seemed to have no effect on the playing!
I heard he died of a heroin overdose early on,shame he was very very good i saw him on the whistle test,Alan gorrie said he was really into percussion, bells, gongs, etc. He also said he would do things like wet his finger and rub it along his snare skin to get different effects etc,i tried this on my tablas and it does actually work. I think he might have got this trick from eddie bongo brown who was one of the motown dudes.
NO - it's not the drumming. Listen really closely to exactly what is going on with every beat in the bar, it is subtle but if you're into phrasing in a big way it should stand out instantly. As far as being torn between styles, there is absolutely no reason not to learn to play in a multitude of styles. Bass is not my first instrument and I think getting stuck in one style musically can be a road to nowhere in that it eventually constrains you as a player. If you play primarily in one style, you will hit a big musical wall at some stage. I found the only way around this was adopt a seismic shift in styles and do something else for a while, even if you don't like the style of music, an open mind means you can usually gain something positive. Versatility is where it's at for me. I'd happily play a variety of different styles in different bands (later down the line on the bass). If you have got great rhythm and phrasing, eventually you can do justice to ANY musical style. Becoming a "technician" in terms of fast fingers/technique, in my view, is secondary to developing a great sense of groove.
Sorry im just not that much into 999,if a tune dont do it for me it doesnt ,i can think of a load of music with better interplay than this, its doing it for you though which is cool. I didnt mean you have to play one style,i love me rock and im a big dub fan but you have to have a majority style of playing if you want to get anywhere. Players will always be seen as a champion of a certain genre of music even if they do play another one well.Ie John paul jones is seen by most as a rock player but he could also play reggae and funk very well.

You are probably right and i have probably listened to to much jazz which will cloud anyones judgement, its good drumming and has its cheeky moments though. Im not trying to preach but i think you need to go one way or the other in your bass playing (from reading your other threads) Either get into punk/rock etc or get into funk/jazz/soul etc, i get the feeling you are very much torn between the two,i felt this way for a long time two.

You mean robbie mcintosh i think, awesome drummer,im a huge AWB fan.Schoolboy crush and there version of work to do is brilliant.
-
Its very tight but i really dont find anything amazing about it.I tried to listen to all nuances, sorry.
-
I coudnt be arsed, i have probably learned to pick up basic drumming in an afternoon but im a bass player and it took me 2 instruments to get here ,besides i listen to what all my drummers have told me about drumming and to be honest although i have liked all of them and some of them have been awesome players i have probably known more about famous drummers than they have. Hardly any seem to be into peter erskine or tony thompson which i think is a bit weird.

I like peter gabriel so well done.
