1. I got back into UDB after 12 years off. Initially I did about ten minutes a day just playing up and down the neck to get some strength and stamina back. It also kept the blisters to a minimum. Your teacher will help you with hand positions. It's easy to over do it in the beginning as you're probably eager to get stuck in. DB is a beautiful thing to play. There is almost nothing more gratifying than digging in and feeling as well as hearing the sound from a double bass. Enjoy!
2.
So so true, and if you look at the costs of a great, light hardcase cropping up at £2800, then the czech ease, seems like an even better buy.
Tough call. If you're traveling alot and need portability, the Eminence is even more portable and less expensive. I guess it depends if you will always be using a pickup instead of a mike. I can't see the Eminence miking very well, the Czech-Ease would be better at that.
3. Congrats Jez. Hope you enjoy UDB, it's great fun.
4. I've got a set of Innovation Honey's on my DB. I went for a specific tone. The action is high and the Honeys give a great warm, woody thump. I was after the early Sinatra tone. Pretty close now.
5.
I'll bet you wish you still had it after you saw what I did to mine..........
That did turn out lovely. Those old Blazers sound great. soggs, you have a PM mate.
6. I'll throw in a five too. Please send me details Chalk a mark up for the West Yorkies
7. BOT Bump for a great bass. For some stupid reason I traded mine years ago. doh... As RNF states, a very versitile bass. Was my only bass on the cruise ships for years and you can do pretty much anything on them. hmmmm Where you located soggs? Any issues at all with this bass? Cheers,

10.
The band consists of guitar, bass, drums and vocals and we play classic soul / 60s stuff. Given that, you'd think a P would be the perfect choice really but in our situation, something like a Stingray or a good Jazz is actually better. Because we're playing stuff that normally relies on brass / keys etc etc, I play some of the melody to songs and I need something that's quite full sounding and at the same time, articulate. Truth is, a Precision fills out the bottom end very nicely but they don't have the definition for what we do.
+1. A nice jazz or stingray will give you more versatility which it sounds like you need in that band setting. You can get a near enough p-bass tone with the jazz if you need that tone. The stingray will get just about eveery tone with a bit more knob tweaking and they cut through better than a jazz IMO. Have you thought of a nice custom from AGC? Might be worth a visit to his shop. You may be able to rent one to try in your band setting. Or, take Pete up on his offer to try one of his. You've played enough different sounding axes to get an idea if the tone would work for you. Good luck Alan.
11. God that's lovely. Bloody credit crunch
12. Got it Jez. I replied. Cheers,
13. Hi Jez, I'm over in Wakefield. You can come and try mine if you like. I have the action purposely a bit high for a "whumpy" old school sound, but it plays well. When/if you do find a bass, Jan is a good contact for a setup. He worked wonders with my bass which isn't a high quality bass by any means. Cheers
14. Nice one mate. Enjoy the gig with them. Hopefully, it may lead to more. Sounds optimistic.
15. No I haven't. I don't think there are many in the UK. A few top pros look to be using them from info obtained on the website. Just looks like a great idea all 'round.
16. There is one of these on the 'bay here Man if I knew I could sell my current DB quickly I'd have a go at this for portability sakes if anything (I drive a Yaris).
17. This is sold pending payment etc.. The buyer wants the original pups and plate so the Villex system will be up for sale shortly. Cheers
18. Yeah, go and have fun because that's the whole idea. Try not to psyche yourself out. They're just other people you haven't yet met who play music that you enjoy playing.
19. Little update here. All PM's replied to. Not looking for any trades, sale only. Cheers
20.
How old is she? What's the body - maple? Do you still have the pick-guard? If so, will it still fit with the replacement Villex kit?
The serial number starts with U which according to this site dates it to 1995-1996. Not sure of the body wood. It's a three piece body though. It came as you see it, no pick-guard or case. The Villex was mounted on what seems to be a standard control plate, just drilled out so the stacked pots fit. It went on the body using the existing three holes from the original plate with no issues. Hope this helps.
21. Shave and a hair cut, ... Bump Bump Man the market is flat. Nobody wants a great playing and great sounding jazz bass for a good price. I must add, price is negotiable.
22. Hi all, I recently bought this from a chap in Harrogate because the price was great. It plays lovely after some tweaking. I was never convinced about the tone of the original pups so I bought a second hand set of Villex V2JLH pups and a control plate loaded with stacked vols, Villex rotary mid control and a passive tone control which has improved the tone exponentially. It gets a very big range of usable tones now, all of which sit great in a mix and in a live setting. The only tone I'm not 100 percent on is the full front pickup but I don't use that tone often, I have a P-bass for that. this bass has been played and has battle scars so if you're looking for clean, this ain't it. It's a players work horse bass that I was using as my backup on gigs. For sale with or without the Villex. I still have the original pups and control plate which are included. I have an extra bridge that I'll chuck in for nowt. I'd advise keeping the Villex to be honest. I don't have a case for it but will buy something cheap to ship it in or, take the neck off and ship the neck and body more safely. Price is £350 with Villex, £250 without plus P&P. I'm in Wakefield if you want to check it out. Advertised else where. Here's some pics.
23.
that sadowsky is incredibly tempting, il have to get back to you on that, chances are it will be sold within the next hour though
Bump for great tone shapers, especially the Sadowsky. These are great boxes, I've had three. First one bought years ago and gave it to a friend in the Caribbean. Second bough used and wore it out. Now I have the floor DI model. They really add a lovely touch to any sound, active or passive.
