1. I can't seem to get onto the Innovation website (www.innovationstrings.com). Looks to me like Picato took them over or something?? Anyway, I'm trying to find out if Innovation Honey's have enough metal content to use a magnetic pickup. If not, it looks like Corelli's are ok to use. I want to try the mic with a magnetic pup just to see the difference. If anyone can offer insight into the Honey's, that'd be great. Cheers
 2.
i,v seen some one use a sm57 tied on to the bass , any one tried this, need a good loud authentic sound to compete with guitar drums piano, is there no easy answere to this age old problem, maybe not ? im sure everyone goes through the same i cant hear myself(tuning) problem cheers.
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=482357 I use this and it works quite well blended with my Revolution 2 into an Art Tube pre then to the house. Cheap and cheerful.
 3.
Is great!! Played at a full reheasal and it sounded great, played great and left me with a big stupid grin!!
That'll happen every time you play the DB. They are very gratifying to play. Enjoy and keep us posted.
 4.
My latest project is to use an ATM350 mic to front of house. Sounds really great and a true DB sound.
That's interesting. I was going to go that route and tried this setup. It gets a great sound, especially blended with my Revolution 2 pup. There are loads of rigs for DB Alex, it may be a case of try it and see what happens. I'm not too keen on a 15 though. A 10 or 12 is a bit more focused sound.
 5. A 15 added way too much low end, but this was for my DB. Others might vary. A 10 or twelve gives a good balance of low and mid without being too boomy.
 6. Bump for a great cab.
 7.
It's all very well saying great intonation comes from good technique but that leaves the question 'how do you get good technique if you don't know where the notes are'?
Chicken and egg really. Lessons will get your fundamental positions, practice will get you intonation.
 8. I'd make an effort to not use tape. Have some lessons, that will help. Also, get something like the Abersol's to play along with to help intonation. I don't believe Ray Brown, Marc Johnson, Mingus, Christian McBride etc... would tape their basses for recording. All you have to do is listen to their live recordings to hear that they have great intonation which comes from good technique. I'm hoping there are tickets at the door. Hopefully ok. I'm going with my mate who is playing and would be disappointed if I can't get in. A long wet day in Manchester if not
 9.
Hi Tom, been busy playing electric in 3 bands so not much time on the upright, got some Used Spiros for a good price and they are now on, one of the bands i play with i may be able to use the upright a bit so am looking at getting a pickup, hope you are well too mate, are you playing much?cheers, Jez.
Hey Jez, Yeah, we're playing Stripped in Leeds this Sunday night at Mr Foley's Cask Ale house om the Headrow across from town hall. Come on down if you're bored. Starts about 7:30. There are 4 acoustic groups that each play two sets of three songs. Our first time there but we're looking forward to it. re the pickup. I have an old Fishman BP100 pickup and preamp that you can borrow it to see if it's the right sound for you. If it is then I'll do you a very good deal on it. Let me know. Cheers
Sounds like 48 years very well spent. RIP, Steve.
Well put. Sad news. Sincerest condolences to you and your family.
 11.
Anyone know what these are like, item no 190248263349, nice price! cheers, Jez.
Hi Mate, hope you're well. Usually if the price is cheap, the sound will be too. I suppose if you want to try then go ahead but reading up on mics/pickups both here and on TB will hopefully clue you into what to look for in a good quality pickup or mic. You don't have to spend the world to get a good sound but IMO it don't come cheap either. Cheers,
 12. You could try here as well. He fixed up an old Dnyacord tube amp very well indeed. Just a bit far from Manchester though.
 13.
+1 pain is not something to get through, it must be addressed, If not you may be unable to play upright for a long time perhaps never.
Makes you wonder how the guys used to do it in the old days with no amps/PA etc... They must have been brutes.

 15.
Sorry just saw your post that your going to go see some one today - let us know how you got on! (By the way, just noticed you need a bridge for the 3/4. When I was thinking of changing out mine I was quoted around €250 for a fitting alone - but sure tell us what you've been quoted)
Blimey, it's pricey over there. The chap at Chappel Allerton Strings did mine for way less. Hopefully stevie can find someone to do the work for him relatively cheaply. He may even be able to pay in stages or something to help with the cost.
 16. Cracking find those. See if you can find a luthier/repairman up near you. There will be somebody in either Glasgow or Edinburgh that can sort the repairs and they will be able to give you a good estimate of the basses and their construction. e.g. carved or laminate, ebony fingerboard and tail piece etc... You planning on getting into the wonderful world of double bass? Cheers,

 18.
More importantly than the visual difficulties, they encourage a visual reference when what is needed is an aural reference, learn to play in tune with your ears not your eyes.
Practice in the dark along with a simple song you can play along with. Gain intonation by ear, not eye. Afterall, it's sound your making.
 19. Is this a beefed up version of the Kingston 5? Also, is it 35 inch scale? Cheers,
 20. Buggar, that's sexy.
 21.
Hello! i've been flirting with the idea of double/upright for a while. new skill one has to learn in life. Does anybody know of a tutor in HArrogate North Yorkshire? and can you give me any hints? i noticed other posts on hiring etc. as i am poor and about to gt married i can t afford one at the moment. Probally dont have the room for a big double bass but and EUB maybe. do short fat sausage fingers hinder the fun? Cheers
Hi Mate, hope you're well. I don't know of any teachers off hand but you may be able to source someone, probably through Leeds school of music. I have short fingers and I get on fine. You have to stretch a little bit more but it's definitely do-able. If you want to try my double bass, your more than welcome. I get between Wakey and York quite often and Harrogate isn't too bad a detour. I'm away all next week but am available after that. Let me know. Cheers,

 23. That is lovely! Do the ASAT have a contour where your right arm rests on the body?
