1. This is pretty standard for live sound onstage, cut the low bass, and rid yourself of the mud. Mids are your friend and where the audible bass guitar sound is.
2.
A couple of bits of recommended listening that you might want to appropriate... One an old band of mine pinched is The Ataris cover of Boys Of Summer - always went down excellently. Another ripped off The Hanson Brothers' cover of Get It Right Back (not Hanson - this is NoMeansNo singing songs about ice skating in the style of the Ramones - brilliant stuff) China Drum did a great metal/punk version of Wuthering Heights Also from an old band from my teens, we used to do a cracking version of Remember You're A Womble. Great bit of glam rock when you replace the violin part with lead guitar...
Our version of Wuthering Heights is based largely on China Drum's version, we just go to a second bridge where the guitar solo at the end is as we don't do much in the way of solos. Many of our covers are based on other people's covers eg Me First & The Gimme Gimmes.
3. Ahem, yes been doing this in bands for nearly 20 years. Acoustic band does everything from Beatles to Opeth. Main band currently doing the following, all a bit punk, and with male vocals: Wishing A Flock Of Seagulls Knowing Me Knowing You ABBA Rolling In The Deep Adele Mandy Barry Manilow Wonderful Life Black I Kissed A Girl Katy Perry I Want You To Want Me Cheap Trick Fortunate Son Creedence Clearwater Revival Everything Counts Depeche Mode Jolene Dolly Parton I Only Want To Be With You Dusty Springfield Rocket Man Elton John A Little Respect Erasure Cars Gary Numan Rhinestone Cowboy Glen Campbell Iris Goo Goo Dolls I'll Be There Jackson 5 Annies Song John Denver Leaving On A Jet Plane John Denver Wuthering Heights Kate Bush Bad Romance Lady Gaga Torn Nathalie Imbruglia You're The One That I Want Olivia Newton-John Fat Bottomed Girls Queen Take It On The Run REO Speedwagon The Sound Of Silence Simon & Garfunkel Tainted Love Soft Cell Seasons In The Sun Terry Jacks Friday I'm In Love The Cure The Banana Splits The Dickies California Dreaming The Mamas and the Papas So Good To Be Back Home Again The Tourists Wake Me Up Before You Go Go Wham
4. No but we (4 blokes) do a load of female vocal songs with no trouble at all, including suggestive lyrics. Our singer doesn't change many lyrics at all. I Kissed A Girl now has a strange context...
5. I remember a couple of Line 6 guitar amps that wouldn't work with the dodgy powered supplied by a generator. Not sure if it was for the same reasons.
6. Looks ace! Reverse headstock suits really well.
7.
I have the OTB, and have used it in a stoner rock band. Great amp, but I always used a pedal with it for overdrive and tone shaping. The drive by itself is thick, dark and mushy, more Motown than metal, but it actually works really well to soften the harsh sounds that some drive pedals produce.
Having tried the OTB at home last night at very low volume indeed, I agree. Amps with valve preamps I've had before have added a lot of fizz/grind, whereas the OTB adds distortion all the way down, and doesn't make the overall sound more trebly than the clean sound at all. I think it sound quite fruity!
8. That's all cool. Having heard a couple in the flesh, I've gone for an OTB. I've also got a new cab on the way, a TC Electronic K212. This should be enough for the kind of gigs I do, very rarely without PA support. I've also got a 1x12 I can add if needed but think this would be very rare indeed. I'll let you know how I get on, next gig Saturday 8th July.
9. I thought was a little flat. I'd expect an ad for a young originals band to have more spark about it.
10. I take a backup to almost all gigs, the exception is possibly some multi band line ups where I am sure I could borrow a standard-tuned 4 string if I had to.
11. Damned good that! I really like the Koto ensemble version of Lateralus for a very different sound.
12.
I got some very nice distortion from both my Streamliner and currently from my Magellan...I thought the LM Tube and Rocker were a bit...fizzy in this regard... My Walkabout does it best, though...

If you want an overdriven sound, why not get this from a pedal?
Thanks both. A pedal is certainly an option, although the idea of just plugging straight into an amp as I've done for the last few years is appealing.
13. Compared to the OTB do the other class D hybrid amps have similar high levels of overdrive/distortion available? I am planning to down-size my rig very soon. I play with an overdriven sound all the time, varied by how hard I play, pick/fingers etc. My preference is a hybrid amp with the input level high to get the distortion, I DI from the amp 99% of gigs. I’ve heard a couple of OTB heads in action and was impressed. I currently use a Hartke 3500 with the input at 7/10 to get the drive (yes I know it’s not as sweet as an all-tube head).
14. Probably a suggestion that many on here will laugh at but a lot of the Papa Roach stuff has fun or interesting hooks on it.
15. I would not have sold my Crate Powerblock amp ever - shame it got stolen! It served as a perfect small/light backup amp for guitar and bass, and even had it powering our wedge monitors once.
16.

Reasonable travelling distance – rehearsal and gigs, my days of playing the other end of the country are done (could make an exception for a special gig).
Interesting covers set list (NOT the usual pub set list) - been there and done that, and occasionally still do for dep gigs but I need something more stimulating.
Paid gigs – I can’t afford to run at a loss but don’t need to make much profit either. 1 or 2 charity gigs a year are okay if we get fed and watered.
Realistic gig frequency 1-2 per month only - (health issue, family prioritised), not too few either or band gets rusty.
Reasonable musicianship and onstage volume etc – no volume wars between 2 guitarists etc. Current band has 1 mainly rhythm guitarist and vocalist who dabbles with keys.
In my experience I am fine with players who have an ego (I think it’s needed for singers in particular) as long as everyone can work together. Likewise if you’re playing music you love, and doing it well, then the FUN aspect is guaranteed to follow.
17. I've done this before without filing out the nut. If the slots are sufficiently V-shaped in profile you may get away without filing. You may have to move your B string saddle back a long way to get good intonation, possibly right up to its limits.
18. Punk (Stooges/MC5 onwards), NWOBHM, post-punk, early 80s electro-pop and early thrash - a fair mix.
19. As "Precision Bass" is trademarked by Fender, and hasn't been used by Encore AFAIK, then the seller clearly is suggesting that the bass is something that it's not.
20. Not exactly but my fretless has a very well worn set of nickel roundwounds on, that had a few years of hard use on a fretted bass first. They are pretty smooth and I think may approximate to half-wounds. There are a lot of marks on the fretboard but they haven't gouged in to the fretboard at all yet.
21. Just enjoy the ride, it's exactly the same skills as a smaller gig, you're just on a bigger stage. The only time I've played to a four-figure audience my band let me sing the encore (it was the one song I sang lead on). Unforgettable
