  1. OK this is getting annoying.I we must have ads then let’s also have an ad free subscription.
  2. Was just about to throw my phone out the window.
  3. This is difficult as during the past 6 years, many different iterations have been tried but but as far as I can remember (names are to be discussed). MK1- Tiger -single Beyma SM-212, four 64mm ports, 50Hz tuning, 50 litre cabinet volume. MK1.1 Tabby - As above but with two 64mm diameter ports and 30 litre cabinet volume. As built by Phil Starr at last year’s South West Bass Bash. Mk 1.2 Tortoiseshell. On the drawing board. Small improved 30 litre cab spec TBA. Phil is thinking about it. MK 2.0 Lion - single Beyma SM-212, one 125mm port, 50 litre cabinet volume. Celestion CDX1-1415 neo compression driver P Audio Horn. This was at the shootout at the South West Bass Bash yesterday April 7th. MK 2.1 Leopard - Faital Pro PR320 12” + Celestion CDX1-1415 neo compression driver P Audio Horn mounted vertically. 50 🎂Litre cabinet volume. This was at the shootout at the South West Bass Bash yesterday April 7th. MK2.2 Snow Leopard - Faital Pro PR320 12” + Celestion CDX1-1415 neo compression driver P Audio Horn mounted vertically. Mounted inside a slightly taller CNC’d cabinet (30mm, 1.25” taller). However work goes on so so we could run out of cats.
  4. To be fair most of the credit goes to Stevie and Phil. Glad you found it worthwhile, I certainly learnt a lot.
  5. I agree that the RCFs are very good. Stevie of this parish measured Phil Starr’s RCF310 Mk3 and it was superb but the latest iteration of the Altos are also very good. In listening tests at Absolute music in Poole, I thought both the Alto 10s and 12s stood up well against all the usual suspects, QSC, RCF and Yamaha.
  6. Well what a great day again. You could never get such a great selection of gear or people together. Of course the Scrumpettes must get most praise as the food was again superb. More than that they kept us watered all day and of course cleared up after everyone was gone. Great to meet Andy again, I love his work and that fact that he shares his experience ( yes I will be after more info soon Andy). Jabba's basses are fantastic and the support for the bash from Chowney, Markbass and Gillett is great. I never felt the need for an acoustic bass but I fear a Gillet would be hung on the wall rather than played. They are works of art. A big thank you for all those that came to the cab shootout. The initial results were enlightening. Phil is collating them and the results will be on the 12" cab diary soon. Suffice to say that all the information was really useful and a big thanks to Jim for staying in the room and giving his opinion. It all helps. Despite all the work in modelling, measuring and building, you can never tell how a cabinet will sound but the help of all that attended has encouraged Stevie knowing he is on the right track. Finally it was good to talk to Tony Butler and despite his health problems it was smashing to see him at the bash. We must have lived about a mile apart when we were young, but it was the first time I have met him.
  7. Well the CNC cab was at the bash and was impressive. It was a prototype and the are a few things to iron out but I was impressed. The rigidity of the construction with no glue was surprising. When I say surprising, I mean surprisingly good.
  8. A bit late in here but I totally agree. Too many sound men will basically set up the Kick and then maybe the bass and worry about the rest of the mix if they can be arsed. I saw Glenn hugged at Southampton three years ago and every tie the kick was hit the rest of the band were inaudible.
  9. Just a reminder that we will be doing a cab shootout in the side room again this year but with some changes. We made some mistakes last year and we think we can get correct them this time. it is a still fluid but we hope to have. 1. A 1x12 cab shootout featuring the latest iteration of the Basschat 1x12. Mk 2*.This should be against a couple of Boutique cabs and one other cab. 2. A prototype of the CNC’d BC 112. Stevie will fry assemble the cabinet. Under Stevie’s direction we are aiming to order 10 easy build (think IKEA) cabinets and we will have the prototype at the bash. 3. Comparison of the Mk1 Basschat 1x12 in its Big and Small form factors. 4. Between sessions you would be able to try the cabs. All will be very informal and hopefully informative and all subject to change but we hope it would be useful. *The original MK2 used the Beyma 12” but since last year Faital Pro introduced a Neo 12” that lightens the cabinet and is approaching weight of a Barefaced and the price of the Beyma loaded cabinet. Changes to the horn orientation make the latest cabinet easier to hear on small stages. Both versions will be there so you can compare.
  10. Same at North Road Studios Poole. The only good thing is the kickback.
  11. The think is that both changing your cab or adding a second might do the job. Yesterday we fine tuned my Basschat 1x12 and compared it to Stevie’s. Mine is fitted with the Beyma SM212 and Stevie’s has the Fatal Pro PR320. The Beyma goes lower but the Faital Pro is much louder. So the right single cab could be OK or you might find two cabs of the right sort could suit better. The best way to try cabs is at a bass bash.
  12. i re-read the thread and realised that you had already confirmed it.
  13. Are you bringing your F112? If so can we use it in the cabinet shootout?
  14. My guess is that the Four indicates the 4 rotary controls.
  15. The range was called dogs BLX at trace and the prefix is a abbreviation of that. As I write I feel sure that someone is going to tell me it is an urban myth.
  16. Has anyone ore-ordered the Four yet? The B1on is a great bit of kit. As with all the digital multi effects units I have had or tried, it can be noisy at extreme settings . My only real gripe with it is that you have to go into a patch or effect to change volume or EQ. The Four seems to have that covered as all four controls are analogue (OK they may be rotary encoders rather than analogue pots, but they are physical knobs). The real feature I like is the Editing software. It is a PITA to programme any digital multi effects unit from the knobs and buttons on the front. I also have a Korb AC3000B and that is a breeze to programme from a computer. What is missing? A DI out. Not a big thing for me as the DI on my amp is excellent and I have an Orchid DI on my pedal board. One final thing about noise. The B1on is digital and like many digital effects units will cause noise on the power line if you don’t use a truly isolated power supply. Almost every digital pedal does this.
  17. At the risk of being called a hypocrite for making the thread even longer......I agree about the IEM thread.
  18. Strangely I believe this was the extension cab to the BLX 130. Strange because it looks nothing like the 130. Of course you know what BLX stands for.....
  19. Just a thought, this thread is now so long that it is of little use if you come in “cold”. On the other place they restrict threads to 1000 posts. It is time for FRFR part 2?
  20. I agree, go Ashdown or Trace second hand. The old Mag Combos were great and the RM combos are worth a look although might be pricier.
  21. Not true a contract is a contract, however it is more difficult to prove that a contract exists if it is not written down.
  22. We are hoping to do an updated cab shootout again. The Basschat 1x12 has evolved and again we would like to compare it to the older iterations and some of the other cabs on the market. Anyone with a commercial or boutique 1x12 tweeter? More details as we make them up.
  23. Never noticed that myself. Will try it later.
  24. Probably not BUT for some people that have the luxury of good PA support, an Active FRFR is adequate.
