  1. Is it true that Richard Page was approached by both Toto and Chicago to replace (presumably) Bobby Kimball and Peter Cetera respectively? @cetera's user name reminded me!
  2. The guilty parties L-R Steve Farris (guitars) The Pat Mastelotto (Drums) Richard Page (bass) Steve George (keyboards) Shame they didn't manage to duplicate the quality or success of "Welcome to the Real World". There's hardly a bad track on it.
  3. Overrated- Yamaha Attitude. Mine was fabulously well made and robust, but I could never make it sing. It just honked like a wounded Bison. Pedal pre-amps- yet to find one that I like, have been through the Hartke VXL, Sansamp and MXR (M80?) DI+ Underrated- Bongo. Divisive aesthetics, but oh, the tone and clout! Whirlwind cables- I've one that's 30 years old and has never even crackled.
  4. I generally perform adjustments by ear; Bass plugged in. EQ "flat". Using headphones. I just try to achieve a good volume balance from string to string, and also from one pickup to the other. This can be virtually impossible to achieve with some lower-output bridge pickups, so I just do the best I can.
  5. It's worth remembering that the Dolphin and Infinity models have similar pickup complements and EQ sections... Just in case you don't fancy the metal aesthetic.
  6. Amp- power. Plenty of it. It's better to turn a 500w amp down than run a 100watter flat-out all night. Weight may also be a consideration if you've far too carry it. Cabinet- Sensitivity ( dB/W at 1m. Usually taken at 1kHz IIRC) Basically, the more the better. It'll go louder easier. Power handling. Can it take what your amp of choice can dish out? Impedance- might you want to add another cab? Will the amp drive two? Size and weight are considerations for transportation. Me? I've a 31kg cabinet that'll take 1000w. It's a 4Ohm unit, so maximises what I can get from.... A 450w transistor class A/B head which lives in a 2u case. Fits in the car with the seats down, and the cab is a one-man lift. I strap it all to a dolly board, and it's a single trip from car to rehearsal room or venue. It was all purchased s/h on this forum. The whole lot Inc. cases, covers and cables cost <£500. P.S. I use this at home for practice, too. It still works at lower volumes 🙃
  7. I had a similar experience with a Zoom B3. In the "Total" menu, there's a master wet/dry mix for the entire patch and it's contents. That was set to 50/50, which meant I couldn't eliminate the dreaded chorus wobbles. Set it to 100% wet, and it's much better. Dialling out cab emulation generally improves everything. Unless it's needed for recording or a signal to a desk, I turn it off.
  8. Loving the new "Bedside cabinet" concept! GLWTS.
  9. (For me, and this relates to the 4EQ models) Bongos just have effortless headroom and a great degree of tonal adjustability. It's the 18v electrics coupled to the Neodymium pick-ups and 4 band eq. They can pack a mighty punch when required, but can equally just sit neatly in a mix.
  10. I thought that the neck p/u was too far back... Of course, it's not. The neck is 3 frets less than a Bongo at 21, hence the larger gap 🙃 I bet it sounds great. Are the controls; Vol/Balance (the silver stack) H mid/ L mid Treble / bass ?
  11. Interesting. Which pickups are you using? Have you managed to source some Bongo units, or are you using something else? (Potential for coil switching beckons!)
  12. Potentially difficult for Dingwall with regard to price/performance/features. If they're too good, they'll undermine their other models. If they're too expensive, people will trade up into the next echelon of Dingwalls or buy another brand. If the quality's not there, word will spread and players will avoid them. But how to achieve this at a reasonable price point? If they did a 2 or 3 J pick-up passive 5 with a Rosewood board for <£800-900, sign me up.
  13. Good question. Are these not just a suitably-specced MIM? (Don't get me wrong, a "good" Fender is a lovely thing, but at these prices I'd be looking at Sire or G&L first )
  14. I think it's easy for people to conflate Leo's work ethic with the stagnation that the company he sold to CBS in 1965 often displays. After all, it still bears his name. He was always reworking (if not refining) his designs, but with a keen eye on cost-control and ease of mass- production (no 13° angled headstocks!) I always thought it was 1938 for Tutmarc Maybe I was thinking of the electric guitar patent granted to Adolf Rickenbacker in 1937...
  15. Too heavy for a B string for me.. (Did I just unwittingly pick a team?)
  16. I like the Nux Mighty plug. I've had no issues with mine with any instruments. Long battery life and super portable/ lightweight.
  17. I never paid that much attention! But yeah. The BC Rich one. Not the melty looking Pedulla. Moot point, as none of them are likely to come into my possession.
  18. I'd rather have a Pedulla Punisher
  19. Yes, it does stop the drain. And it doesn't make your amp thump if you switch it on or off while powered-up. It's a shame that the actual EQ itself is, at best, lacklustre. I prefer my B2AV in passive mode.
  20. That's not a name I ever expected to see on BC. Caverna Magica is a great album.
  21. Will it need to be short scale? Or is she big/tall enough to manage a long scale?
  22. No need to apologise. It's what I started the thread for!
  23. Not if it doesn't work when it's switched off, he won't! 🙃
  24. After a deep breath, I tried again. Had a lengthy WhatsApp discussion with the singer, who suggested we have a proper chat, and asked me what time. We agreed on 8pm. I called at 8.05. No answer I called again 10 minutes later. No answer, no message. I was awoken at about 11pm by the singer. And blearily told him where he could shove his band. Are they really all this bad? (Once I'm asleep, for your own safety, leave me that way)
  25. Looks like it might be a home-brew, judging by the hardware.
