1. Got a set of straplocks from Den via a trade. Good communication throughout and the part arrived promptly. No hesitation in recommending him as a good guy to deal with.
 2.
Or an Ibanez ATK, or one of those Sandbergs, or a SUB.
+1 for the ATK. £300 for a great range of tones - sounds rather like a 3eq 'Ray.
 3.
There was a Sound Control in Glasgow, opposite the Jury's Inn on *Jamaica St*????? just next to the bridge. It was my hotel of choice in G'gow for many years if travelling for a gig. It was taken over by another chain when SC went bust, but I don't remember the name of it.
The shop on Jamaica St is now called Kennys Music. Bought an Ashdown Mag 300 and a 210 cab from them for £350. Great deal I thought! They were also called something else (Reverb maybe) before closing down again.
 4. All, I've recently replaced the stock pickups on my 2002 Fender Jazz (MIM) with a set of Custom Shop '60s (which are very nice indeed!). I've also replaced the stock bridge with a Gotoh 201. I have the originals parts available. They are just sitting in a drawer doing nothing, so I'd like to see them go to good use. Ideal for a repair or project work or even to upgrade an entry level bass. [s]Pickups[/s]Gone Standard Jazz sized - bridge slightly larger than the neck, not the older Mexican style where they were identical. Raised pole pieces on the A and D strings DC Resistance - Both around 5.3K Black covers Screws included [s]Bridge [/s]Gone [s]Standard issue chrome bridge Small areas of chrome plating flaking, under the saddle adjustment screws. Screws included[/s] All of these parts in perfect working condition, but remember they are over ten years old, and have been well used in what was my only bass for most of the time. They have aged well though! I still have the Fender packaging from my new pickups, and will use this to send the old ones. My preference is to trade for some other bits that I need (better than being nagged at for spending cash in January!), but I will sell if someone needs the parts.

Tuner pedal
Small pedalboard
Guitar distortion pedal (for my 11 year old son)
Bass effects - filter, octave - open to suggestions really!
Straplocks
Cash price:- Pickups (pair): £20 Meet in Glasgow/Lanarkshire area or posted at cost price - £2.70 First Class, £3.65 recorded
 5.
Be aware that the 2012 onwards std Am J's gained the custom shop 60's pickups. The previous few years (at least) had less vintage (more extended highs and lows) sounding p'ups. Not better or worse, just different. The CS 60 pickups will generally give you a darker sounding instrument though.
I have MIM Jazz from 2002, and have recently put a set of the CS 60 pickups in. They do lose a bit of brightness, but overall sound great. Thick sounding low end, but without sounding muddy. I used to eq the hell out of my sound, but now just leave it flat. Thoroughly recommend these pickups.
 6.
If it was the P I'd have it!
Lucky for you! http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=12031011331258 (if you don't mind the colour!)
 7.
So I have Volume, Pickup Select (5 pos rotary switch), BTC (stacked treble/bass), Jack socket.
Is this on a Jazz? I'm interested in how the 5 position switch works with two pickups? Thanks!
 8. I had one of these between 1999 and 2002 - great little bass and served me well. Recommended as a great beginner's or budget bass.
 9. Don't mind his music to be honest, though I kind of pity him because he's destined to be another record company puppet. Anyway - there's a BBC video of him playing live, and his bass player has a rather nice Musicman.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqZY26E3wWI
 10. I have the Ashdown and it sounds great. Looks cool too! On the downside, can't adjust attack, decay etc - they are preset - but most pedals in this price range are the same.
 11. I'm replacing the pickups and wiring on my old MIM Jazz, and am thinking about replacing the scratch plate while I'm at it - so it looks like a new bass as well as sounding like one! I can't decide whether to go for tortoiseshell or black. I've mocked up a couple of pictures (I know these aren't going to fool anyone!). Any opinions? (This isn't my bass, just one the same colour - blue agave - I nicked from Google images) Thanks!
 12. Hi, I know this thread is a few weeks old now. Just want to add, that I also have a Maplin power supply powering my pedal board (This one), and it is often unusably noisy It behaves very strangely - the noise changes depending on what pedals are being used and what order they are in - even when they are all off. I had resort to essential pedals only powered by battery at my last gig. Same problems on my own amp and at rehearsal room.
 13.
Just stick an octaver on the guitar and nobody would notice the difference! Although obviously his charisma would be a big miss...
Few years back, my band had a gig lined up, a Student end of year party or similar. A few days before, I ended up in a coma with something called Ludwig's Angina. My lead guitarist decided to buy a Whammy pedal and used that to fill in some of the bass parts for the gig. Put a bloody big sticker on it - 'George in a box'......
 14.
He is a great bassist. Saw him with Ted Nugent a good few years ago. The reason I say L izzy initially, is that nobody could replace phil ,) IMHO Saw lizzy with sykesey a few years back . They wre good. But sorry Thin Lizzy are a tribute /covers band now IMHO .(another thread)?
I'd agree with this to an extent. They put on a good show, and it's good to see some of the old faces, but Lizzy isn't Lizzy without Phil. I suppose that's why they play venues that hold a couple of thousand rather than stadiums, which I'm pretty sure Phil would fill! The new line-up have recorded a new album, but have decided not to release it under the Thin Lizzy name - due to fan feedback. A smart move I'd say.
 15. I kind of learned bass and guitar in parallel. My dad had an old Eros acoustic guitar that he showed my some chords and bits on when I was about 12-13. At the same time, there were some one on one music lessons available at my school. Had to pick your top three - I chose guitar (classical), then bass guitar, then tuba! I was to learn bass. My tutor was a local jazzer, who quickly me everything from 12 bar blues, to classical double bass pieces to slap and the killer jazz standards. Anyway, I digress.... I ended up with a 'ZZ Top' branded P-bass copy and a Squire strat. I played guitar for fun - set up my own band with school mates, and bass for exams, school shows etc (which was actually quite fun, done Grease, Rocky Horror & more). As I got older, I initially played guitar in bands, but always got frustrated with poor bass players who struggled to play on the beat root notes in time. It didn't take me long to realise that I was a pretty average guitarist (crap at lead, decent at rhythm!), but a skilled bass player. There were plenty of guitarists out there who were better than me, but not too many bassists. So since then (the late 90s), I've stuck to bass. Played in several bands, recorded an album and done plenty of gigs. Honestly - I moved to bass because I was good at it, not because I was rubbish at guitar!
 16. I was on holiday with the lads a few years back. We were enjoying a meal and a 'Looky looky' man tried to sell us some sunglasses. My friend saw a pair of imitation Armanis (or something like that!), and asked how much they were. The bloke said €120. My mate offered him €5. Bit of haggling and he ended up paying €10 for them. Was this a cultural thing, or was the sunglasses vendor just a chancer? Anyway, my point is - if you think something is overpriced, then I personally see no problem negotiating. If someone makes you a 'low-ball' offer - either politely decline or negotiate. If someone takes offence and you've acted reasonably, then that really is their problem!
 17.
Rush Thin lizzy Green day Slayer Celtic frost Sabbath Led zep Megadeth Van halen
Have you seen Thin Lizzy's most recent line-up? I received two tickets to see them in Glasgow as a birthday gift last year, and wasn't convinced anyone could step in for Phil - but I need to say, Marco Mendoza does a great job.
 18. I have just sold Mike a Boss ME-50B multi-effects. He was very easy to deal with - communication was great and he sent payment promptly. He also immediately confirmed that the goods had arrived safely - a weight off my mind! I have no problems in recommending him as someone you should do business with.
 19. I sold Steve an amp I no longer use. He met me exactly when and where we agreed. Good communication throughout, and generally an all round good guy. Have no hesitations in dealing with him.
 20. Embarrassed to admit this, but I hadn't heard of Larry until tonight when he was in Jool Holland. Thoroughly enjoyed his song, though I'm not a big slap fan. What was he playing? Bit like a Jazz, but neck pickup was strangely angled. On the whole 'bass Jimi' question.... Forget it! I don't think bass and guitar are really comparable. Jaco is nothing like Jimi really - Jaco was technically perfect, and could have easily held his own with classical musicians. Wooten is like a refined modern equivalent, though obviously has his own distinctive style. Jamerson did lay the foundations, but not exactly difficult to replicate. Entwistle..... Love what he did, maybe the closest the bass world has to a ' Jimi'. My knowledge of Larry is limited, but I think it's fair to say he didn't do as much for bass as Jimi did for guitar, nor for music as a whole. Did he invent slap? Probably not a fair thing to say, double bass players were using this for many years before him.
 21. Purchased a chorus pedal from Muzz. Great communication and item arrived promptly and well packaged. No hassles whatsoever.
 22. I've now tested the chorus pedal. Sounds pretty nice - like the low filter knob, which lets the bottom end of your signal pass through cleanly.
