Hi all, The above is part of this week's homework for the cover band, and I'm struggling with the bass part for the middle/bridge section. Does anyone have decent tab or dots for it? Thanks!

We generally try to keep the music going - less chance of people going back to their seats! There are a couple of places where our guitarist changes guitars - so we have a little bit of chat to fill these gaps. A little audience interaction is good, but got to keep the balance right. Really need to keep the content appropriate too. A couple of years ago, I was checking out a potential band to play at my wedding (in a pub), the level of chat from their front man was enough for me not to book them. Trying to be funny, but a bit bad taste (e.g - [i]"I'd normally be having a w*** 'n' a Pot Noodle on a Thursday night. No - not IN a Pot Noodle. AND a Pot Noodle"[/i]). They did know we were there too - he made a crack about his agent telling him to be on their best behavior. We left early and booked someone else.

Had a similar experience. The bloke in the shop checked his online catalogue and wasn't able to find much. Fender, Squire and Vintage Jazz basses. Mostly 'Jaco' style too. Reckon a wee shake up is needed - love Jaco's stuff, but have no desire to play a tatty looking bass with a missing scratchplate!

You could add a pre-amp to your P. Something like an East P-retro for example. Another option would be to use an EQ pedal to achieve your reggae tone - which would allow you to keep a balanced volume. A compressor would be more useful for smoothing out volume inconsistencies occuring due to your playing style etc.

Hi All, Wonder if any of you have managed to create something on the Zoom B3 that would work with Muse's Plug in Baby? Recently been added to the band's set and want get reasonably close to the right sound. Have another 50 songs in the list and can't justify buying anything else for one track - so please don't suggest purchasing a Deep Impact! I originally tuned down to dropped D and just used Big Muff + Flanger to give a kind of sweeping effect - but it's not quite right. I watched him play, and I'd guess he's playing an octave higher with a octave pedal to bring it back down. Sounds like a fuzz & synth would get me close, but I've not been happy with anything I've created. So - anyone else play this song? Thanks!

I put an ad on last week looking for a keyboard player. 7 responses within 12 hours (and none since), 5 seem decent, 2 maniacs. Three didn't get back to me after sharing our demo, two did. Auditions arranged for both, one pulled out. Auditioned the other last night and probably going to offer him the job. To summarise - Gumtree worked out okay for us.

Definitely the ATK! Great 3 band eq on it, good pickup in right position and solidly built. Have one that is reluctantly being evicted by my wife since my latest purchase is apparently one too many. Going on the market place here if I can't shift it locally.

I was in London at the weekend for the Roger Waters gig with my guitar playing mate, and visited Denmark Street. I purchased my first P bass! Was 'show stock', and the price reduced to £365 with good quality Fender gig bag included. Couple of minor cosmetic issues that were pointed out to me, but otherwise a great bass. Service was perfect - very friendly, more than happy to let me try out as many basses as I wanted. Had good chat with them too, genuinely nice folk. Before buying, we browsed the rest of the street (which was pretty poor for bassists) - be lucky if one other shop assistant spoke to us. My mate had a similar experience with guitars, and ended up dropping £800 on a slim-line Telecaster.

Jimmy Egypt in the west end has a really good reputation. Never used him (do my own setups since I'm tight!), but know some people who have.

I bought a blue acrylic bodied 5 string from ebay about six years ago (ish!). Was my first and only five string. Cost me £45 iin an auction (rrp was about £140). Really didn't like anything about it how it felt or sounded, though it did look good in a 'unique' sort of way. Had it six months, then sold it for exactly what I paid for it.

I purchased an effects pedal from Paul. Quick response to all messages and very reasonable to deal with. Pedal arrived promptly and was well packed. No negatives at all. 100% recommended!

I bought a rebel in 1999, lovely amber colour. Had unbranded pickups, PJ config. Totally passive - vvt controls. Cost me £179... Main (only) bass for a few years.

Thanks for the advice on the nut guys, one less thing to worry about! Reckon the twisted neck was probably caused by the same abuse that damaged paintwork. The guy I bought it from said he used this at pub gigs when he didn't want to risk using his Musicman, and just chucked it in the back of a van without a case. Anyway, including cheap ebay parts I've spent about £60 on this - can't really complain! It's definitely good enough to introduce me to the fretless world. Hopefully the postman will bring my pickup today and I'll be ready to go. Thanks again
