2. Damn, now you've given me 22 fret envy.
3. Roughly the same pricing as SUBs and nobody ever complained about them. I always go for second hand anyway so the RRP doesn't affect me.
4.
I believe the unkown one is 'copperhead' or something to that effect.
Ooh Zak, buy it for your sparkle ray. Or you could have my clear guard for a negotiable price.
5.
Three actually.
That's two more than you needed.
6. I've played this bass many a time and it truly is lovely. I have to say i've always been extremely jealous of Zak with this bass, the finish is amazing in the flesh and the sound/feel of the bass will not disappoint. I'd have if I wasn't saving for a five string... and an acoustic... and maybe even a fretless (missing my status already). EDIT: Oh god, just imagined it with a graphite neck!
7.
errm..?
Just a typo I reckon.
8.
I'm glad you decided to type it all in capitals, otherwise i'd have had no idea what it was you were selling...
Thank god you put two full stops at the end of your sentence, otherwise I wouldn't have detected the sarcasm.
9.
So are you saying you tried TWO Classic Jazzes and one was pants?
Yep
10. Just to extend on what 'donhills' said, those 60s classic jazz basses can be great. I posted this in another thread but i'll say it again here. I tried two in a music shop, same basses (mexican 60s classic jazz), one sounded perfect, an all round stunning jazz tone and the other was a load of s**t. So from this I gather there may be a trend for inconsistency in the mexican lines. I'm not saying there bad, quite the contrary, but i'd advise to try before you buy where possible.
11. I want this, and it's so close. But can I justify another 4 string even if I do sell my warmoth?
12. The other day in a shop I played one of the OLP Levin sig basses (one of the later ones in peach) and to be honest in a side by side comparison with a stingray five there was a small difference in sound but not a lot. The SR5 felt much much nicer to play and was clearly better build quality but the £1000 price difference does make you wonder. EDIT: Although I might add, I would never part with my stingray for anything.
13. Looking for a jazz width nut for a project i'm building. I can pay postage if you want but I can't imagine it being a lot.
14.
Saw the 'Ray in your avatar and had to find a full size picture of it. That's a beautiful Stingray especially with the see through p/g.
It's acually now got a white pickguard and I don't think i'm ever gonna change it back, looks so classic with it on. Still got the clear one knocking about somewhere though. EDIT: Although looking back at those pictures, black looks pretty nice.
15. Just on the whole mexican debate, I went to a music shop the other day in Norwich and they had two Mex 60s classic jazzes, one black and the other sunburst. I first tried the black one and was utterly dissapointed, it sounded muddy, undefined and generally quite poor. Also the neck seemed a bit over tinted and a bit too orangey. Next I tried the sunburst expecting the same but to my suprise it sounded absolutely killer, an almost perfect jazz tone, and the neck was a much nicer shade. What I don't understand is how two basses of exactly the same model can sound so different. I'm obviously not linking the colour to the tone in any way but the mex models do seem to be pretty inconsistannt in quality. I guess the answer to the problem is try before you buy. And also don't hold prejudice against any kind of bass until you've tried one out, it really did suprise me how nice the sunburst one sounded.
16. I want, I want, I want... But I can't have.
17. So is this one off the site Maple as it says or the mysterious Phenowood? If I do order a Status new it will pretty much be exactly like that.
18. Some lovely shots there of some lovely basses Rich. How much does the custom wood fingerboard cost as an extra?
19. Sorry about the massive pictures, if you zoom out on your browser they're easier to see.
20.
This was my bass originally and I built it from its constituent parts. Its had the best of everything put into it including gotoh lightweight reverse machineheads, Lollar pickup and paper-in-oil cap so I can vouch for how good it is.
Cheers, you did a damn good job on it. Looking back over the build diary hasn't made it any easier for me to part with it. Oh, i'd better go take those photos before it's too dark.
