These cabs are starting to filter through to players in America and are getting some rave reviews, I feel another trip to Warwick looming!

Nice amp but have to be careful on cab pairing. Much prefer shuttle 9.2 or Markbass amps

I run a Markbass lm800 non tube and it is seriously loud through my HD212, I keep it under control by turning the input gain down a little. It has way more power than I normally need, but is there in reserve if I need to call on it!

[/quote] If you follow the threads on Talkbass you will see that Roger has voiced the cab to be aggressive, this does help them to be heard in a mix, but it can be too much for some users. A little eq can of course go a long way!

The shuttle through those cabs is one of the best matches available

Cheers Martin [/quote] Very different cabs, the Vanderkleys are very even and pristine sounding, the Baer is very tight in the lows and VERY aggressive in the upper mids. If you like what you have and want a smaller solution the 112 MNT might be a good option. +1 to markbass, great sound set flat, and always sits just right in a busy mix.

I have never played one but a guy that I listen to called Nigel Hendroff uses a starmaker and a duo jet to great effect, they seem to sound quite similar from what I can tell. He is worth looking up on YouTube.

Really pleased that you are loving the cabs, on the amp side of things, Bass Direct have. Staccato 51 at bargain price, it is an amazing match up with those cabs. It has huge low end and a slightly scooped mid, this fits with the tone profile of the cab nicely and is the best match up that I have heard yet. Sounds huge live!

For what you want to spend you may not get a significant improvement, I would recommend saving up for a set of fralins which sound very growly, or a set of nordstrands which sound very clear and wide. Both offer superb build quality and tone. A set of decent strings can sometimes make as big an impact as a set of pick ups for a whole lot less. Take sunbeams vs Dunlop nickels, sunbeams are bright and open, dunlops have less high end but a huge low mid content, I have two nordys, one worth sunbeams, one with dunlops, they sound very different!

I have tried many high end basses as well and come back to my Nordy VJ4 every time, I am also using a VJ5 with big singles at the moment which is also really nice. I think Carey is sublime as a builder.

Once you have owned ceramic Bergs there really is little else that will scratch that itch imho. Can't speak for Barefaced as I have never tried them, I have heard very mixed reports about them, the guy who bought my original HD212 tried one and sent it back, he tried it out with his mates and thought it sounded very poor(but loud) he loves the Berg........ other people swear by them, others say they look like they have been knocked up in a garden shed, who knows!

I prefer the bigger low mids and polite upper mid voicing of the HD212, I had owned one before and was always totally happy with tone, but struggled with the weight. The idea with the ML was to store one cab where I normally play and not have to carry much gear around, sadly this did not work out due to security isssues so I went back to a single cab solution. The Baer is a quality piece of gear, as Mark said to me, this is kind of like choosing between two very high end sports cars, it is difficult to go wrong!

[/quote] Hi Chris, The Baer ML112 is very similar in output and tone to the AE210, it has a little more ultimate low end ability and less top end, although the Baer can sound quite bright as the midrange driver goes to 9k I believe.2 ML112's will be similar to a good 410, maybe like an AE410 but with a bit more low end. Are your AE210's the earlier or later versions? the later ones are a bit less aggresive in the upper midrange making them sound more refined and polite. A single ML112 will sound bigger and louder than a single AE112 but would not match an AE112 stack. If I already owned your AE210's I would feel no need to change to the ML112, you would get a very slight weight saving and a slight chage in cab voicing but that is all, and nothing that a little eq work can't overcome. The ML112 is also a bigger box than the AE210, The Bergs are remarkably compact! Think carefully before you let them go, they are getting quite rare and are one of the best 210 cabs around! Ian

Have just re read the review that Tom and Alan wrote, I think a score of 4.5 out of 5 and comments like "this is one of the finest cabinets which I have evaluated from a technical perspective" and "there really is nothing to complain of, from a technical perspective, and much to praise" are very positive, all from people who are picky as can be about their gear!

[/quote] A single ml will give you a suprising amount of volume and low end, if you play small bars or have pa support then one will probably do the job providing that you have a head that pumps out decent wattage at 8 ohms. I regularly play in a 400 seat auditorium with in house pa and 1 cab does it so comfortably, I do find that 2 does sound a lot fatter though! An ml112 will be similar in volume to a top end 210 such as a berg, but with more low end.
