1. I find hum buckers are more mid focused than single coils which I perceive to be a little more even sounding. There are noise issues with some single coils, however some manufacturers go with a split coil design such as the Nordstrand nj/sv range. Pj basses IMHO seem to offer hum bucker punch with single coil definition, defo a nice combination, and best of both worlds especially where a nice fat finger style tone is required
2.
i have just received my Sonic Port and I'm using the Jamup GK amp with a sansamp driver before it - sounds bloody ace (on headphones). will try it through my power amp and cab next but very impressed so far. I also have a Fractal Axe FX Ultra on loan and although i haven't delved deeply in the settings yet, it took me 5 mins to get a really good sound from the IOS setup that compares very favourably with the Ultra. Obviously the Ultra can do a lot of stuff that the IOS may not be able to handle and it may (will) be overkill - not that such frivolities have stopped me buying gear before !!. I am very close to ordering an Axe FX2 XL but the small test with the IOS / Jamup setup has made me think.... top job - cheers for sharing your setup tayste
The svt amp sim on the fractal takes some beating, I have played that through an atomic powered cab and a studio and it just rock IMO. I really must get a sonic port this weekend, am dying to rock up live with just an iPad and my bass!
3. Thanks for the supportive comments guys, this really does do a great job!

Mark just bought some strings from me, fast payment, great comms, great guy to deal with! Many thanks Ian
6. Nickel Low rider 45-105 (4 string set) never used and still in the packets. Purchased around 6 months ago from Strings direct. Looking for £20.00 posted. These retail at £30 plus postage Thanks for looking Ian
7.
Thanks guys, yeah I see what you mean about the issues with the 7 and the PF500. Doesn't help that no-one appears to be 100% sure what causes them to shut down. Still appears to be happening with newer builds too. I'll widen my search to the rest of the SVT Pro range. Is there a particular SVT Pro that really cuts the mustard?
The 3 pro has great tone but not big on output, not sure about the others.
8. I would love a 7 pro but have been scared off by all the reports of cutting out, seems its a bit of a lottery, some heads are good some aren't. I have even heard that some of the later revisions have issues. As for tone- closest thing to an all tube SVT is what the gear heads are reporting.... Which is exactly what I want, SVT tone and volume without 80lbs lift There are a couple of threads on Talkbass for info, and Dino at Ampeg is really helpful if you email him.
9. Can I politely suggest some more detailed high res pictures, the bass is gorgeous but for anyone thinking of spending that kind of money I think they would want to see some better shots... Ian
10. Nordys are amazing basses and Carey and his team are great to deal with. I have a vj4 and a vj5, both sound amazing with passive and active circuits. The necks are amazing and the only part of the build process that is not done in house is the paint, everything else is meticulously built by Carey and his small team. Depending on spec they are around 2500 to 3500 if you order new so 1600 is a bargain IMHO. Bear in mind other boutique builder buy bodies and necks in from else where and just assemble them. No names mentioned!!! The weight of the bass is down to the individual body, I have access to an ash body vj5 that is under 4kg, my alder vj5 is around 4.5kg. That bass is currently with Carey at the moment on a weight loss programme! Pick up buzz from Nordstrand pickups is more often than not due to them not being shielded, the noise normally goes if you touch the metal work on the bass, I bought some copper foil and insulated the pickups on my vj4, it is now immune to the buzz, (the shielding has to be earthed)
11. Check out the Talkbass threads as well, some of the boys have compared side to side and have noticed a difference
12. Beautiful bass, great price! Have a bump
13. Just sold Doug a Mega bass strap, great communication, fast payment, many thanks.
14. I am selling my Neotech Mega Bass strap, it is 2 weeks old and in great condition. I bought it to compare to my comfort strapp and after 2 weeks have come to the conclusion that it offers a very similar level of comfort so an sticking with my old strap! These are £35 plus postage from bass gear, am happy to accept £25.00 posted to a uk address
15. Beautiful instrument and just how I would spec out a a century, I am getting an itch for Roscoe, would have to let one of my nordys go to buy this though, decisions decisions! Have a bump
16.
Hope I do. If the Streamliner was available through Thomann I would probably order both, compare and keep the preferred amp. Any idea what Bassdirect are like with returns?. What cab did you use to compare the TH 500 and Streamliner ? Thanks
Th500 through berg HD212, streamliner through bergs, Vanderkleys and baers, streamliner sucked big time through the ceramic loaded bergs, way too much low end!
17. Thoman are great you will have no issues with returns as long as you return the amp, instructions and packaging in as new condition. I have used them several times and have never been disappointed. Hope you like the amp and don't have to return it though
18.
Thanks! I was impressed with the Streamliner too, but the Shuttle suited my tastes better.
The 9.2 is a class act and is an improvement over the already wonderful 9.0, given a different cab to my current ml112 I could be equally as happy with the shuttle as I am now with the streamliner. Genz amps are great, something there for everyone I think and as for Mark Vanderkley - great cab builder for sure, beautifully finished product and tone for days!
19.
Thanks for all the replies. I am swinging towards the Tone Hammer at this stage, as I can put it through its paces for 30 days with the option of full refund once purchased from Thomann, so nothing to loose ( would much rather put money into the local economy, but the choice of bass gear around here is extremely limited ). Lots of love for the Streamliner on here to, but as Genz Benz are no more,I am hesitant to pull the trigger on one.
To try them side by side at bass direct is quite revealing, to pick them up and to operate them is also a useful comparison. Without wishing to cause any offence I thought the TH500 felt less well made and was certainly not as fat as the Streamliner, bear in mind I went there too buy the TH500 after Ken Jung recommended it to me! There is obviously personal taste to consider here
20. Nice rig, that would sound glorious with a streamliner 900
21.
On the other hand, I found the Streamliner sounded much better than the Terror heads I tried - no floors wiped this end!
+1 amazing head
22.
With those 2 on your list you should also consider the Orange Terror 500 or 1000. Some say they're a 1 trick pony, but it's a brilliant trick! Blew the Streamliner I tried out of the water in every way imho. Never tried a th500 unfortunately.
It is just different sounding and louder, a big minus for me with the Orange was the DI, not great quality and set permanently post eq, sounded thin through the p/a compared to other heads that I have used live, all IMHO of course
