1. Thanks for the post Sean. I'm going to have to check these out. I don't suppose I'll find anywhere in Scotland with a decent selection - any suggestions for a shop or two in England that's worth a visit?
2. QA deteriated from the early 70's until early 80's (70/71/72 Fenders are generally OK). In addition very heavy (cheap) ash was often used for ash bodies at this time, instead of the expensive swamp ash used earlier (14lb jazz basses are not unknown). Fender brought in Bob Schultz in the early eighties. He brought in former collegues from Yamaha who essentially retrained the Fender production staff. Quality improved drastically at this point - Fenders from the early 80's are generally pretty nice. Current instruments are as well made as they have ever been.
3. I think the technical term for stuff like this is "sh*te".
4. Temporarily withdrawn.
5. As new SKB 3U shallow X rack case. Dimensions can be found here Case Dimensions. Perfect for a small amp and tuner (I used it for a GK 700 head). Looking for £40 + shipping. If you need a tuner see my other topic.
6. Absolutely mint Korg DTR1000 tuner, looking for £65 + shipping. If you need a rack as well see my other topic.

8. Very tempting. Do you have an accurate weight?
9. I can't contain my curiosity any longer - just what is that unusual looking device on your table?
10. If this is anything like my one you're going to regret letting it go!
11.
I had a quick look at the Wizzy cabs John but aren't they rated at quite a low wattage.
They have a high sensitivity though, which makes them efficient.
Funny but true - EA CX112 8 ohm cabs have 4 ohm drivers in them ( ) , which explains why:
Weird
12. Don't rule out EA Wizzy cabs (especially the MLines).

14. Bugger. These are as scarce as hen's teeth...
15. You know you want it...
16. Mesa walkabout head in 9+/10 condition. Front panel is immaculate. Last of the silver faced ones with the aluminium knobs and an active/passive input pad switch. It's a 110V version, so needs an external step down transformer to operate (can supply one for £30). These are pretty nice sounding heads. Looking for £490. Pics to follow shortly.
17. Sorry Stuart, missed your PM - have now replied. Still for sale - if anyone is waiting for a drop in price it isn't going to happen!
18.
John, would you be up for a trade with a TecAmp Puma 500? I've had it from new just over a year and actually think it's the best amp I've owned but the TC has had me interested since I first seen them. I'm not actually sure I want to trade TBH as I might regret it, but I'd like to try the TC all the same. I'll PM you. cheers D.
Hello Derek, Thanks for the offer, but I'm only selling because I need to free some cash (I'll be selling one of my other amps as well). I've no idea how the RH would compare to the Puma, I'm sure you could make one sound like the other, but the RH tuner and presets are certainly nice features to have.
19. Selling my RH450, complete with the RC4 controller and the (unused) gigbag. Only a few weeks old and in mint condition (never been outside the house). Bassdirect are doing this bundle for £895, I'm looking for £700 + delivery. Happy to split if there's a buyer for all three items, at £15 (bag) £75 (footswitch) £610 (Head).
20.
just bought a 1983 (I think) yamaha BB 400s fretless and am after a truss rod key to fit, its a nut on the end of the truss rod (body end) so looks like it would be some sort of socket fitting anyone know where i can pick one up? Cheers Bri
5/16" (Gibson). Stewmac.
21.
I doubt it's the switching power supply, although it could be. The class D amp and the poswer supply are both switching types. It might be a beat between the two frequencies that you can hear. Or it could be that the filtering on the class D low pass filter is not quite right. When you switch off, as the voltage drops the switching frequency of the ampm and psu will shift, so the audible effect will change. Switching power supplies generally operate way above normal audible frequency, as do class D amps, so the most likely culprit is a beat between the two. For example, if the PSU is running at 42KHz, and the class D amp is running at 40 KHz, there will potentially be a beat of 2 KHz.
That assumes they operate at a fixed switching frequency, most modern class-D amps are self oscillating (although I've no idea if the flightcase is).
22.
Well, as you've started it might be best to finish .... could you explain please?
You should be using a unit rated to at least 250-300VA. The unit in the photo is only suitable for low power items like electric shavers. If you run your amp hard the step down transformer protection circuitry (if you're lucky) will shut off the supply to the amp, otherwise it will overheat, creating a fire hazard.
