I have a very old beat up looking BB2000 with a maple body, straight thru neck and rosewood finger board.I hope this information can throw some lite on some of issues that some people have, but i have a problem with this bass,it has a twist in the neck, can it be fixed?
If the neck is stable a luthier could probably put on a new fingerboard, but I doubt that it will realistically be cost effective to fix. NB - Your body is alder, and the fingerboard is ebony. The neck is maple and mahogany.
Are we talking flats here? Through body stringing?
TI flats should cope with through body stringing due to the slight gap between the windings.
i think that there are some gigs that a 1 12 will do, jazz jam sessions, gigs without drummers, quiet rehearsals etc.. but if u would be using 2 then i would just use your db212....of course if you just want one then that makes sense but if you use 2 together then the benifit of size is kinda equaled out by your 212 being on wheels (unless there are serious stairs and you are on your own).....i used to own a gs112 and i really didnt use alone on anything other than jazz gigs...... saying that im replacing my hs410 with 2 EA wizzys. Im getting a normal one imported to add to my mline 12 which i use for upright. by using 2 with my db750 i can get the tone i want but if i played electric only i would stick with the hs410 and buy a small cheap 112 cab for suitable small gigs/practice.... Good luck....hope aggies are going well, i bet they sound amazing! :-)
I use a pair of EAs, a normal one together with an MLine, and only play electric. I use them with a Genz Neopack giving and the combination makes a really light adaptable rig. I've never tried Bergs but I wouldn't use Aguilar GS cabs if I got them for free. They have a massive mid range scoop, which makes them sound great if you're playing in isolation, but in a band situation they are hopeless. Bass is in the mids, and the Aggies just don't have any.

I've owned a fretted unique 4, and would have to say I'd never buy another Schack. As for Andy Schack, he is best described as an arse. I would do a bit more research on his basses and the man himself before spending your cash.

Any chance of uploading the transcriptions Rob sent you (if he's happy with that)?
I've also seen an article by Dan Erlewine from a couple of years back here. I've thought about trying it on my Westone fretless, but never got around to it...
I tried following that article after having a fretless with a thor finish on loan. Needless to say, it's a bit more difficult than Dan makes it out to be. If trying to do it again I'd practice on a hardwood offcut first, until I was happy with the results.
In his eBay ad ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-bass-197...%3A1%7C294%3A50 ) he does say its been "given a professional heavy relic treatment". He's not passing it off as a "real" vintage. As to why people do this, it is a matter of personal taste as evidenced by the many threads on BC about this!
Didn't mean to imply any funny business on the seller's part. I suppose the relic treatment game is a bit like plastic surgery, fine if the end result is OK, but with the possibility of a disastrous outcome. -
Hi John, Does that mean both sets are gone, I have a friend who may have been interested in the used set. No problems if they are, he needs to get himself a BC account for the future
No, unused set still available, but just answered a PM asking if they were still available so they might be gone shortly. -
I'm pretty much a flat-wound guy, so have ended up with some round-wound sets that I've pulled off of various acquisitions. Yamaha 40 60 80 100 (off a new bass) Unknown 30 60 70 100 (used, can see fret marks) Unknown 35 60 80 95 (off a used BB3000F - look pretty new - cream silk) Fender (I think) 40 60 80 100 (pretty sure they came off a new Classic 50's) Unknown 35 55 70 100 (look pretty new - came off a new Lakland Bob Glaub) All diameters are approximate. £5 + shipping for whole lot (all five sets).

I've always preferred the look of lollipop tuners to elephant ears. It's surprising that only Hipshot seem to offer them. Nice bass - looks like you have a quarter sawn neck there.
