Genz-Benz Neo-Pak 3.5 **SALE PENDING**
I'd like to.... but am waiting to see their great new product being released in the New Year.... Bump for this great amp!
Do you mean the Class-D shuttle amps? The shuttle 600 looks like it'll kill the Markbass F1. It's a pity they won't handle 2ohm load though, and who knows how they'll sound? I'll still have a punt on one, if they're priced within reach. -
Ooh, what colour, does it have a case and where in Scotland are you? All questions!
These only came in butt naked and wine burst, I went for the wineos. It's stored in a case (not a Yamaha one - I got the basses in cardboard boxes) but I'd prefer to hold on to the case if possible ... It's just like the one in Ba55me15ter's avatar. I'll get it down from the loft at the weekend and up some pics.

Not sure about this - I've a brand new unused Yamaha BB1500A I'm thinking of selling. I bough a pair of them new about a year before they stopped making them (5-6 years ago?). At the time I had planned to defret one and epoxy the board, but changed my mind and kept it as a backup. I remember the UK cost of these at the time was about £830 each, and I got the pair for £900. The BB1500 is by far my favourite jazz type bass, but I can't see me ever having to need the spare. And I need some room. I'm not going to give this away, but if anyone is looking for one I'd sell it for £450.
Roger's yer man (jeannie's) - his family were horse thieves who fled to America to escape justice. There, you learn something every day.
Thanks - Roger's a nice guy on the phone (his emails were a bit curt so I was expecting the worst ...). Wish he'd figure out a cheaper way to ship to the UK though.

Just gauging if there's any interest in a mint condition US emerald green (white pearl guard) SB-2, with a custom bird's eye neck with ebony board. Also has been factory modified to have a tone control. Probably be looking circa £600. Basses don't seem to be moving at the moment so might leave until the new year. Edit: Actually I think it's emerald blue (given that they don't do an emerald green!). I'll try and upload pics at the weekend ... Edit: Here are some pics - anything that looks like a mark or scratch is a reflection. Nice even birds eye. I'll upload Yamaha ones later, still haven't had time to dig it out.
I expect some porn fairly soon then!
Dunno 'bout that. She's an ugly bird - and at £45 for a replacement guard she's going to stay that way!
-
This arrived today, really nice bass. Comes in at 8lb 3oz so not as lightweight as I'd hoped, but I think it'll be a keeper. Nice quarter sawn neck as well, which I wasn't expecting. Anyway - she needs a tort guard, so who's the `go to' supplier for Lakland guards? Jeannie's?
-
Pretty sure I've seen this bass before - most likely ebay. It's a strange set of pictures to use if it is a scam, after all they do stick in the memory.
There was a post on either the Fender Forum or tdpri.com by a guy who'd had a Fender from new that was plywood - pictures included. It caused quite a stir, with various theories put forward, but the guy insisted it was genuine Fender and owned since new. Still, I'm not sure that counts as documented.
I guess anything is possible with Fender. Half of the fun of buying one I suppose ...
I'll seek your comments again, when I get the pics, if you don't mind.
Seriously - ask at the FDP. There may well be Fender experts lurking on this forum who can advise, but there certainly are on the FDP.
-
had the odd plywood body and even some US made Fenders have been reported.
Have you ever seen a documented case of this? Fender's take is that 'Fender® branded instruments have not and will never be made of plywood'. I've assumed that this meant instruments with Fender on the headstock, but it's not a very clear statement.
-
Don't place to much (or any) faith in the neck plate. You really need to check neck heel, PUPs, POT's, paintwork, decal, tuners bridge and guard - basically everything. If you get the chance take detailed photographs and upload to the FDP - with the help of the collective knowledge there you'll have a better chance of finding `discrepancies'. Hope it's a good one.
Ho hum, i have contacted the seller, no response......so looks like it might be one marked down for experience, i should have known better, dont do ebay after several glasses of good red wine.
Just continue drinking it ...
This looks identical to a one I purchased a couple of years ago on eBay (knobs, s number prefix/system, tuners etc). I was never sure if it had been a bitsa bass or not but I didn't pay a lot for it so wasn't gutted when I realised it was a plywood body (sold it to a student for what I paid... £70ish). If you haven't paid for it I'd establish if it is a solid wood body! The seller may or may not have mis-described it but if it is 20 years old then it shouldn't have a ply body.
It probably has. Then again, lots of Fenders have multiple part bodies with top and bottom facings, which a lot of people don't realise. I've cut up late 70's bodies (not recently) with about 16 vertical layers between the facings. When it comes to saving a cent or two there never have been any flies on Fender.
I have a late 80's Korean Jazz, purchased from new and it is the absolute business. It is better crafted than most of my vintage Fenders. Will never get rid of it.
I wasn't knocking Korean made instruments (my experience of ones of this vintage is that they are pretty much the same as the Japanese ones). The best "jazz" bass I've played is actually Korean as well (but it's a Yamaha rather than a Fender).
'Hi everyone, thanks for taking a look at one of my auctions, and rest assured you can have confidence in buying from an established seller with a good reputation.' ...who also makes up crap on the spot. Now.. is the seller being misleading, or genuinely misguided? I dunno. Is the bass worth £280 in today's market, given full, accurate info? Nope.
It's ebay WoT. Caveat Emptor. The buyer had the opportunity to check the serial number. An earlier poster says it's an 88/89 (I haven't bothered to check) so it might be 19 years 11 1/2 months old instead of over 20 years - big deal. I suspect that it's the fact that it's a korean rather than a Japanese model that's getting under the OP's skin. If he wants a bass to play he may as well buy it. If he wants a bass that's also probably going to increase in value fairly quickly then he should probably have a discussion with the seller. It's not something that I would have advised someone to buy.
Obviously not in this case, he has his doubts, hence the thread This isn't about economic theory, it's about whether the Item was mis-described. The bass very probably isn't over 20 years old, and really isn't 'very rare' either. So I'd say it's not worth what the buyer was prepared to pay for it.
Well, as ebay auction descriptions go (especially for older Fenders) the swingometer points more towards the accurate end of the scale for this one. IMO the OP should pay up, or at the very least ask if he can pull out - so that the seller can reclaim the listing fee.
I've seen a few similar threads now where people aren't completely certain of what they're buying and what it's worth and often in relation to Fe*der. I think it would be great if we had a progressive stickied thread that has some values, links to serial dating sites and things to look out for scams wise etc. The thread would be a focused place to put presumed scams in too. I would love to do this myself. However, I think someone with vast Fender knowledge, a cynical eye and an excellent grasp of ebay would do a much better job
There are plenty of Fender guitar sites on the web. Each instrument is worth exactly what a buyer is prepared to pay for it. This Fender appears to be worth £280 to the original poster. If he now thinks he's paid to much - perhaps he should have thought a bit more before hitting the BIN. FWIW it will probably play and sound as well as any other Fender jazz (IMO).
-
Well it looks like the bottom of the range basswood bodied instrument going by the tuners. Doesn't look like a bargain to me.
Certainly have Chris!!! Does anyone know if a jazz bass neck will fit in a P Bass neck pocket? And in turn, if the J Bass string spacing on the P bass would be ok...with pickups etc?
I'll throw in a leftball - how about a G&L SB-2 (with tone control added)?
-
Tuners arrived Chris - very pleased with them, they could pass as new.

If I can just butt in - just in case any potential buyer reading Derek's advert thinks that the amp can't do 'old skool' rest assured it can. I've never been that much of a fan of starved plate valve pre-amps but this design is better than most, although if your PUP's are weak it can be difficult to drive the valve into heavy distortion. I've tried pretty much all the smaller heads over the years and this has been the only one I've kept. I think it's the best lightweight head for electric bass - bar none - on the market (for acoustic I'd give the nod to AI - but only because of the AI's variable high pass filter). The power specification is also accurate (I've measured it) unlike some vendors (EA comes to mind ...). Of course, all IMO. -
If there's anyone interested in buying it or anyone who knows enough about them to give a guide price I'd be very happy.
They'll go from between £150 to about £600. If there's no marks on the bass or case, and tarnishing is minimal, look for over £500. The BB5000 basses are quite sought after, so I'd advise you to advertise it out-with this website.
