1.
please tell me something about the US built BB3000 I didn't know them.
I don't know the whole story, but the general consensus is that when they (Yamaha) were seriously trying to take market share from Fender they were chasing serious endorsers. One of these was supposedly Jeff Berlin, who had been given a BB3000. He supposedly specified a 1.5" nut version with V/V/T which became the BB3000s. At the end of the day he never became a Yamaha endorser but the BB3000s was placed on the market anyhow. I've no idea why (or at least I've read dozens of theories and don't which is true) but initially the manufacture of these was subcontracted to alembic. Incidentally, I don't know if you're aware but they still build the BB3000 in Japan, with a street price of about 190,000 yen, which isn't bad considering the strength of the pound against the yen. The BB3000s's sold even less than the BB3000's back in the day. There's a heap of Yamaha basses that never saw the light of day outside of Japan which most people have never heard of (like the 2000VI) - if you manage to collate accurate data on all these that would be impressive!
2. I wonder if they sent the original one back to him. I had an extended loan of a 750 last weekend, and it's a cracking amp, you can get some really nice tones mixing the two preamp channels. The Neo-Pak is great as well, they're very easy to use in a master/slave arrangement. I've ended up with 4 Neo's, and am in two minds whether to sell a pair to fund a 750.
3. The 2000s (the BO short scale 2000) has a rosewood fingerboard. Or at least the one I had did, so I assume they're all the same. Some of the legacy data on the Yamaha site is wrong (the BB2000 body is listed as maple, but they aren't on the BB2000, BB2000F or BB2000s). There were a lot of Japan specific BB Yamaha's as well that aren't mentioned on their site. They don't mention interesting guitars like the US (alembic built) BB3000s basses either.
4.
I'm a huge fan (a real lover) of the 80s Yamaha BB Series... I actually own a very nice couple of BB3000A and I'm trying to collect and sort as many info about these basses I can... so, if you can contribute or just want to take a look at my work... here I am and here it is the table I'm trying to fill: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p7j...PgUJBjdfvWI2aZA Cheers!
I've never seen a 2000 with a maple body (I've 3 and they're all alder). The 2000s has a rosewood board. There are also fretless and 'BB' variants of a lot of these. There was a BB450 as well.

6.
Hello , sorry if i can wrong section..but didn't know where to put the topic... anyway i got a bass on Ebay Uk , the seller said me that the cheaper way of shipping he found is parcelforce at the cost of 69£ , that seems me a lot cause i often bought basses from Germany or Netherland and always paid around 40 euros... can you please tell me some company or some experience of you to ship outside Uk and what price paid? thanx a lot for the help
Tell him to look at interparcel.com, shipping to Italy should be about £37 (without extra insurance) using parceline.
7.
Hello! It's a great pre. Can I ask what bass you used it with?
Tried it with my 50's Precision (bloody great bass - I'm selling off all my other Precisions and am just keeping this - can't believe how good they sound), a BB2000 (of course!), a Japanese jazz (JB65) and a couple of my mates instruments (an 80's precision and an Ibanez Blazer??). Oh - and a BB1500. Bugger all hum. (WOT - if your replacement still hums when it arrives insist on having it swapped out again.) If the rumour of a new high power Neo amp is true I think it'll blow away the Eden/Mark bass/AI/EA gear. Pity their European sales channels aren't that good - they should go through thomann or similar. I've been trying to get a bag for the Neo-Pak in the UK and they prices asked are comical for something that costs $30 in the US.
8. Had a chance to play with a GBE750 today. Couldn't tell the difference A/B'ing the tube channel with a Neo-Pak. Nice amp.
9.
Damn straight - same here. But I have been lent a book of bass patterns over different chords. I need to dig it out and find the proper title. You might find it useful.
Which book is this?
10. I had the same S.M.Choi sticker inside a G&L tribute I used to have. Not a lot of people know that..
11. If anyone is interested in this please let me know by Sunday evening.
12. Model number PB62-78US (the top end alder bodied version with the US pickups), weighs just over 9lb. No issues, used at home only (owned from new). Looking for £350 plus shipping. Will ship in fender gigbag in the original shipping box (unless buyer would like to buy the SKB case as well). Currently fitted with La Bella flats, I'd like to keep these since they get better with age, so I'll fit original strings before shipping. I'll also refit the original strap locks in place of the Schallers. Any Q's give a shout.
13. The terms Watts RMS or Watts Peak shouldn't be used (and weren't used until about 20 years ago). It should just be Watts. But it should be stated how it's measured (such as averaged power over a 5 minute period). Watts peak is marketing bullshit.
Hi Folks, Anybody here know if i can run a Gallien Krueger 700 RB head (380 watts at 4 ohms) with a Peavey 4ohm 2x10 cab that has a 350 watt max program power rating(175 watt RMS continuous)? I still find the difference between program and RMS continuous confusing, to be honest.. I've already blown up one GK 2x10 cab through not thinking and don't want to make the same mistake again if I can help it! Thanks Nik
14. I 'won' the auction for the first one. The arsehole ran the same auction (different user name) in the summer. Hopefully I've saved someone being fleeced, at the expense of an ebay strike.
15. Just for interest, if they're 400 new from Japan, why do you think anyone would pay 500 for a used one from Greece?
16. Does anyone remember a UK bass magazine from the early eighties that was full of gear reviews - can't for the life of me remember the title - but it was an A5 size mag. I was trying to remember the title the other day when I came across an Alligator combo from that period (remember them, with the dark green covering?). It brought a flood of memories back. (EDIT - before anyone else says it - yes, I am an old fart.)
17. Russ, BFM cabs are the way to go. No question. And don't buy a cab from anyone if they're not prepaired to provide a SPL chart for that cab.
18.
Not a handsome pickguard, 'tis true, but easily taken off. I think it's a gorgeous instrument. For me, the side LEDs make it all the more desirable.
It's not the pickguard as such, but the damage caused to the body by the screws.
19. LaBella 760FL's + 10 years. Can be a bit pricey in the UK though.
20.
I'm likely to disappear up my own ar*e trying to achieve this
I'll have two front row tickets please ...
21. Skip this if you don't have a BB3000s .... I sold one of the first ones ever made last year (natural finish), I think it was on basstalk. I don't have details of who bought it, but if you're reading can you PM me.

23. LED's wouldn't bring the price down, but the pickguard would.
24. Don't change the strings, you probably need to lower the action on the E and A. Garry Willis's website has a nice page on correctly setting up a fretless (or fretted) bass.
