1. tun's amiable communications and the knowledge that it went to a good home made the sorrow of departing with my trusty Shuttle 6.0 less of a trauma.
2.
I've been sitting looking at a few of the older issues today. I wish they would bring back the Weekend Warriors feature, far more interesting to me than some of the interviews etc of late.
+1. In fact, the Weekend Warriors feature has been recently revived in Basslines...the 'magazine' side of our site. Anyone wanting to add themselves to this just needs to email me at [email protected] Phil

4. Just wanted to say, that the neck is fantastic to play ...really easy to get around with the profile Jon's carved, and a low action to boot. The East pre-amp is er ...less than subtle. Considering there's only one pickup, there is an amazing range of sounds that can be dialled in. However, there's lots of ways of modifying the East by sliding switches inside to different frequencies. Plus, I'm still trying to remember which control does what to what other variable, if you know what I mean. So, until I've mastered that, I'll not pass judgement. There's always the Passive Switch Phil
5.
Is that Dave Pegg playing on it originally? underrated player.
Yes, it was the Peggmeister's first Fairport album. Ashley Hutchins, and Sandy Denny had left by then and Richard Thompson was to leave soon after. He's still one of my favourite bass players active today and has been a big influence to me since those very days.
6.
Pretty tough going, especially the second section at the 12th fret and some serious open string action in the last part. Good fun, but don't let the guitarist start it too fast!
It's always been a quiet ambition of mine to play this instrumental live. The Live Convention recording is particularly good. I've got a songbook that covers Leige & Lief, Full House and Angel Delight. It covers the treble clef only. Dirty Linen is denoted as being in 9/8 and also in 2/4.
7.
Now that is bloomin lovely!! I fancy something very similar, but in Sonic or Daphne blue with matching headstock and a 72 style scratch plate. Would you mind PMing me the cost of your build? Thanks D.
Best ask Jon himself but because most of the cost is labour and because he's not VAT registered AND there's no import duty and freight charges, a Shuker build is exceptionally good value. Plus, I paid in monthly direct debits that were small enough not to miss, so there's no need to find a lump sum all of a sudden. His email address is jon @ shukerguitars.co.uk NB: Jon's got a stand at Bass Day, so I recommend folk come along and chat with him then (his phone signal's crap during the day at his workshop anyway).
8. I've got it now. All finished and sitting at home. Some pics coming up shortly, though I was so looking forward to showing Jon's finished masterpiece to Si, who followed this thread with great interest.

OldGit

Part of Basschat's fondest fixtures is now missing. But it's so warming to see how members of this community are responding to the sad loss of our very own Old Git.
10. I swore I'd never sell this, but since I went all valve & heavy for live gigs, this amp is now only used for rehearsals ...or rather WAS ...as I've now been traded a Shuttle 3.0-10 combo. So since the latter does the job nicely, I'm selling its big brother. You'll have read all about these amps elsewhere but all I can add is that it's the loudest amp I've ever had. Period. It's never lost me a second in its working life. I bought it on 30 June 2008 from your friend and mine, Mark Strickley at Bass Direct. Although it has done loads of gigs, it is in very good condition. This is probably down to the aluminium case that I got for it, which come in the sale, along with the lead and instruction brochure. The original packaging is available too. I'm asking £425, delivered.
11. Thank you to all Basschat members that contributed questions for Jimmy in a previous question-gathering thread on this forum. The interview is now published. It's a bit long to paste here (and of course I'd like to lure you on to www.bassgear.co.uk :brow: ) So here's the link
12.
Superb beard as well
This is that beard in January this year, at NAMM.
13. I didn't know when I woke up this morning that I'd host a few Basschat folk at Bass Gear Global Headquarters But Toasted came and brought his Celinder and tested a few basses, Molan brought his Will Lee Sadowsky that has possibly the thinnest neck I've ever seen, and OutToPlayJazz brought his Status S2 Classic 5-string that had the lightest action I've ever come across. They all rather liked the Victor Wootten, which is simply one of those instruments that has to be seen and played and doesn't disappoint. The tiny Bag End 1 x 10 soaked 'em all up nicely! Couple of snaps taken at this afternoon... Toasted inspects a Will Lee & Molan tests the coffee Rich and his sexy Status
14. Someone posted a pic of some perspex Precisions, and it reminded me of these...
15. I'm having a spoof one done for a gift for a friend at the moment by http://www.decartdecals.com/ - very helpful.
16. A northern based luthier not mentioned here so far is Paul Rose http://www.prosebass.com/
17.
With East P preamp?
I jolly well hope so! Pics will be posted soon after bringing it home.
18. Jon tells me the white EMG P5 pickup has arrived at last I'm fixing up a trip to Shukerville in about a week's time to bring my new baby home. I hope everything will be all white!
19. Stratocaster? I thought he was strictly a tele man
20. This looks interesting. I'm not connected in anyway but I might pay a visit. Hopefully, there'll be a few basses there. http://www.mi-pro.co.uk/news/31293/Jerry-D...ord-Guitar-Show Last time I met Jerry Donahue was as a teenaged autograph hunter in 1975!

22. In '78 I bought a Fender Precision from Norman Hackett's in the arcade in Reading. It was a natural gloss and I think I paid £275. It was also my first brand new American bass. And here is a contemporary pic of it taken at the Target in Reading...
23. Sounds like it was a great bash. I just wanted to say thanks to Molan for adding some of Bass Gear's Alleva Coppolo and Bag End stock to his considerable load.
