1. We now can't make it that night. Happy to sell at the price they cost us or exchange for another Crowdies gig in the north on another night. It should be a cracker, as it's Neil's birthday that day and the second night at the Apollo, so they'll be well relaxed. With all those dodgy surcharges they add on these days, the total price for the pair was £83.25. Mind you, there's a pair on evilbay for the same gig for £199!
2. I just love this track. Bought it on a 45 when I had long hair. Some how, I thought I was the only one this side of Detroit who grew up with it and 'digged' it. Maybe I should go out more?
3.
I sold my VBA to a mate and went to watch him play at a pub gig using it. The sound just filled the room without getting in the way of anything else, and punched through the mix.
Interested to hear you say that Pete. I usually use a Shuttle 6.0 but recently I gigged an old school valve amp with two of my bands. Both band's guitarists separately expressed delight, with one commenting that whereas the Shuttle could be heard, (a bit too "in your face" as he put it) with the valve amp he said I "could be felt as well as heard". It just seems to fill out so much and in a benign sort of way.
4. Rich, Seeing I live on the road coming off your road (Alderson Rd) how about you bringing the Terror round? I've got several cabs and basses you can try it out with. Phil
5. I've got an SR506 (and a SR505) and what I'd like to add to the thread is that this is a great sixer to start on ...not that it isn't a great one to have regardless of experience, but that the slim neck and great balance just makes the transition easier. Good luck with the sale!
6. I'm enjoying listening to their tunes on http://www.myspace.com/elephant9theband Yes, the long list of influences is obvious, but I like it when a new generation discovers a previous generations' music and nails the vibe.
7. Still waiting. The delay is down to the EMG pup ...maybe because it's white and also 5-string, so not too common!
8. Cool! Thanks skankdelvar. It occurred to me this afternoon, that a modern way (and less of a fire hazard) would be to stick a projector on to a laptop that's playing music with the psychedelic patterns you get with various media players.
9. I may have been there in the 60's but I don't remember them much (man). I do remember the projected rotating liquid gel light show though. Now I'm in a retro band, I thought it would be fun to have such a backdrop. Anyone know if modern day equivalents exist?
10.
Thanks - there can't be many Cornell bass heads around, care to share some pics?
Yes. When I said the Cornell valve bass head, I meant THE Cornell valve bass head. To my knowledge Denis made this to order, and is the only one. 12. My man, sell it by all means ...but only to a Cool Dude, ya dig?
13.
First impressions re: construction... it's a LOT more solid and well-made than I expected (don't know why I thought it wouldn't be). It's a quality bit of kit which feels reassuringly solid, but light.
But how does it respond to the Elk test? (as in F'in el'k ...it's vibrated off a stack on the ruddy floor)
14. Nice! I'm enjoying the Cornell valve bass head at the mo.
15. I forgot my camera, but here are some images taken on my Nokis.
16. Car is now kerput. Just got a lift home by the AA. Looks like I'll be coming without gear now.
17. They're expected in the UK in May.
18. I just wanted to say a public THANKS to Keith Yorks5stringer for taking over the running of this bash. Whilst I'll be there and giving Keith support, my work circumstances have recently changed, resulting in a conflict of interest and so causing me to relinquish my co-organising role. Looking forward to seeing many of you on Sunday! Phil
19.
... I bought it new from Taphouses in Oxford in 1980, a super bass but it has to go for financial reasons.
Taphouses? That's a blast from the past. I worked in Oxford in 1974/75 and bought a japcrap bass from them, new. Are they still going?
20.
Did you see a bright orange Jazz there? Not heard from him in a while.
No, I didn't I'm afraid, though I did see one on the Spector stand at NAMM (in case this is a "spot the Orange Jazz Bass" competition )
21.
That look great Can't wait to see it finished!!! What's the neck construction. It looks like 3 pieces... I was thinking of having a 3 piece neck if I go for another custom. T
Yes, it's a three-piece maple neck with black veneer. Rock solid!
22. You're not the Heartbreaker that I remember from Wokingham/Bracknell from the 70s are you? I got to know a lot of Free's repertoire from them!
23. Oh, and Jon is hoping to present it to me at the Yorkshire Bash Bash, so that's yet another reason to come along to it!!!
24. Yay, I got to see it today, and here's some of my snaps! I asked Jon what sort of white it is, and the answer he gave was "just white". The top image of these three shows the white as it looks like in reality ...very bright white and very shiney. NB: There's still a protective layer of film on the scratchplate.
25. I shall be paying the Master a visit next week. At last, I'll (hopefully) be able to have more photo's of its progress on this thread!!!
