£250 for a quick sale to a BC Member? Very reluctant sale due to mounting costs at home... So, I have not had this amp long but it was something I lusted after as a teenager so had to take the plunge when it came up for sale. This is a truly fantastic head unit, in great condition for its age, and has had a service paid for by myself. In the service I had the valve tested, compressor looked at and all the dust cleaned out of it. Highlights: 200 Watts output. 90's Marshall Watts, not your class D stuff. Blendable pre amp from all solid state to all valve. I think of this of going from "clank" to "whomph". This is the secret weapon on these amps. Really flexible 7 band graphic EQ and Lo and Hi Rotary's AND deep and bright switch. Onboard compressor Pre or post DI A fantastic amp that I have used on gigs. The condition is excellent for its age. Volume, tone, heft, even through modern, lightweight cabs. I will throw in a speaker cable and a mains lead. Collection much preferred. PM me with an queries.

I would keep the original scratch plate in original condition and buy a custom plate however you want it from gig ink or another reputable outlet. Gig ink is the only one I've used and I've been very pleased with the results, others on here will recommend some different places I'm sure. The reason I would do that is to be able to revert the bass to its original condition quickly and easily if in future you wish to sell it or take it on antiques roadshow.

Haha I only share the ones I want someone else to buy so I don't "accidentally" make an investment in it myself!!

1980 P bass. Looks fantastic. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126859620533?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=yo3mNp1vSMG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=XRJhsZSpS5O&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I've had a fretless five since my 18th birthday. I recently got a lined fretless jazz. In between times I've had an unlined, fretless Warwick that sounded amazing but I sold it when the 80s band failed to take off. I find the lines helpful above the 12th fret but muscle memory does the job at the "money" end.

Go on then, I'll join in. No more basses or guitars to be bought by me this year.

It might not be the answer you want but from my experience using Ashdown ABM head, or Rootmaster, is great for clean sounds and tons of power. Disable to EQ, add your preamp pedal of choice straight to the input and you're away, any sound your pedals can produce.

Genre-specific band names - yay or nay?
uk_lefty replied to Mickeyboro's topic in General Discussion
I had an acoustic duo for a while called 'Not the Hoople' as a p take of all the shoddily named tribute bands that played in the most popular venue in town. We did not do any Mott the Hoople. Our poster had a picture of Mott the Hoople with a big red cross through it. One punter, long hair, leather waistcoat and Mott the Hoople t shirt came to me at the half time break and said while laughing "it's ok, not what I was expecting though" as he left. These days I wouldn't do anything other than stick the genre in the title, for a covers act. It's so hard for a venue to know what they're getting from a band, and equally their punters, that you need to get the message across quickly, and the best way IMO is in the band name. -
Exactly my situation! But what I add is a good attitude, I help lug everyone's gear - the heavier the better, I store a load of the bulky equipment at my place, I make sure I am saying thank you on behalf of the band to photographers, sound engineers, people who turn up to see us at different venues, etc. and I really care about what we do as a band. But if I were unavailable for an important gig a dep could play my bass parts "better" but the feel would be different.

They will expect you to have done some research first. I called asking and was told "I don't know the exact model numbers for everything just off the top of my head, you know!!?!" Then eventually we got the answer and I ordered, but I did get treated like a small child. In some ways I kind of see the point, but in others....

I had Bartolinis in mine, sounded great. In very hot summers the neck moved a lot though and I ended up trading it in when buying a brand new Stingray.

No, I'd already had one and was aware the pup spacing wasn't period correct. It's a bit of a weird thing to overlook when everything else is done so well. Sire's vintage V7s are very good for the 70s spacing.

I wish I could grow a pony tail without having to buy a pony. Most people don't even know what a fretless bass is, even muso types. I'd just ignore anyone with that kind of opinion. I don't tell the drummer what type of snare to use/ share my opinion on metal Vs wooden snares... I do have an opinion on bagpipes though.

Received this bass a few days ago for a decent deal. I've been wanting flats and a rosewood board jazz and watching a lot of older Joe Dart videos. When this came up I had to investigate. I've had one before in a gorgeous see through butterscotch with a maple board it is one I should have kept with hindsight. Initial impressions are that this is what I would expect, a fantastic quality bass, great feel, attention to detail is great with the exception of not actually having 70's pickup spacing. The neck is lovely with the blocks and binding. I've only just fitted some La Bella flats to it so will be giving it a full set up before properly testing it out in the near future, but I can see this being played through the Fender Bassman a LOT.

I like jazz basses. And jazzmaster guitars. It's all got very Jazzy in here. NBD thread coming soon...

I had one of these!!! By the time I'd finished with it the only original parts remaining were the body and neck. It was really beaten up, I'd even used wood filler in places... But it sounded fantastic!! The colour is great too.

Influence in the broadest sense, I don't play anything like most of these: Jack Bruce Noel Redding Geezer Butler Jeff Ament Bruce Foxton Dave Ellefson before he went a bit weird Colin Greenwood Duff McKagan Marcus Miller Jaco Mark King John Taylor Probably missed loads but those are the ones I either aspire to play like, or hearing them makes me want to play.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I am now sorted via Anyvan and the seller is happy with the arrangement. Very grateful to you all. Ross

Some minor progress... The waxed fretboard looks a thousand times better than it did but probably wants another coat or two. I've vinyl covered the headstock and refitted the tuners, tidied up some of the ragged edges of vinyl on the body too. I had intended to fit the electrics from my Harley Benton jazz but the shafts on the pots are too short and there's a few other obstacles to deal with, so it may be a while until I get around those. Still, looking ok for now, I think.

My Harley Benton fretless jazz is a lovely bass. Recently I acquired what I guess used to be a kit bass that needed some work and thought rather than buying new parts for that, why don't I upgrade my Harley Benton and then lend the old HB parts to the kit bass? It seemed sound logic to me. Even though I always maintain there was nothing at all wrong with the HB stock, here's what I've done... Monty's wax on the fretboard because I use round wounds with this bass; KioGon loom so I could use the HB electronics in a different bass; New Hosco bell plate; Cream coloured pickup cover... I couldn't quite fit the bridge one without fettling the body and have grown to like it just like this; Gotoh high mass bridge. Knobs swapped around because I just wanted to. Worth a further upgrade would be the nut and the tuners but honestly I'm not fussy about those. The bass is perfectly good as is. It just looks a bit better now.

The Desert Penguins playing the annual "last Friday before Xmas gig" at The Horn, in St Albans. Loads of guitar rock and pop covers typically from the last 24 years, a few "new" ones and some obligatory Xmas tunes. Bass geeks most welcome to inspect my pedalboard, instruments, amp and cabs.

Thanks gents, looks like progress at the moment with the seller being accommodating... Will check in later.

I've just bought a bass on eBay. The seller had it as "local collection only" and I made an offer conditional on him/ her allowing me to send a courier or anyvan... Well, they've accepted the offer and taken the monies. It's early days but I've had no reply to my message to the seller. I hope they have some adequate packing materials... But if the worst comes to it and they are going to be difficult about it is there a BC'er who would be happy to pick up a bass in Ipswich for me, please?
