Thanks guys...appreciate the help.. My only issue really is getting up there to try it wouldn't be possible. I'd be spending £500 on a potential wing and a prayer! Wonder whether he'd bring it down with him when he moves?! don't think the power would be an issue although the weight maybe as I have the back of a much older man (figuratively speaking of course)
Whereabouts are you in the 'south east'? I'm in Henley - you could try my two some time (although they are going to sound different to a 2x12 of course!)

I have a 1x15 & a 1x10 from the current range (both bought from BassGear as it happens) and I really like them - both individually and as a pair. I've gigged with both of them on their own and that little 10 handled a hotel wedding party gig in a 7 piece band without any PA support just fine! I think they are relatively heavy, compared to a lot of the current Neo cabs anyway, however their physical size is small. I find them much easier to transport than my Aguilar DB112's were simply because they are quite a bit shallower. I think the 15 goes pretty low & I'd imagine the 2x12 should go even lower given both the increased speaker area and the larger cabinet I find them very 'musical' and not at all clinical sounding (which has been my concern with some more 'modern' cabs). Pretty sure the 2x12 is a 4ohm cab too so that will release full power from your amp BE cabs do seem to be rated quite conservatively in terms of power handling but I don't really understand the ratings that say stuff like 400W continuous power & then 1600W peak. I've certainly run my two with a 450W head at full gig volume without any problems. There was an interesting little Alex Claber article recently that I think said you could run an amp of twice the power of the cab rating. From what I remember it said it's often tweeters that are most likely to blow if you overload a cab & I don't think the 2x12 at BassGear has the Ax-Hi 'tweeter'. I know Jim Wischmeyer at Bag End is an absolute guru when it comes to knowledge about cab design and power handling capabilities so you could always ask him direct if you're worried about this

I love them both - equally! Great find Rick

Just thought I may be heading towards Fleet direction on Saturday evening - not far from you I think? -

I've also fallen recently and have been a bit greedy & bought two of 'em! '72 with maple neck & '63 with rosewood. Neither are 100% original but the core of each is definitely there. If you're over this way gigging at some point then you're welcome to give them a whirl and/or borrow one for a bit to see what you think. Off on hols next Thursday for about 10 days so you could take both for a couple of weeks if that would be helpful -

Wow - just saw a message on their FaceBook page that says they reduced a Purple Chili 2x15" Neo cab right down to £325! Seems an amazing for something like this?
Cheers buddy, one of the speaker outputs is a little iffy, no biggy but I'm not using it till it's sorted so it's off to the tech tomorrow, going to check the valves are balanced while it's there too. The sound when it was on was incredible though.
Steve is brilliant with Ampegs if you want a real expert - not the quickest turnaround but a genius when it comes to fixing anything nasty

So this has been a really big decision for me as I just love this head. I've not had anything quite like it before & it just sounds amazing (to my ears) in a live band mix. There are people out there who say the DB750 only has one sound but, that the sound it has is to die for - personally I'd agree I actually think it has a bit more variation than that but there is very much a core DB750 sound which is a real classic. There's quite a few reviews kicking around that suggest the DB750 could be the last of the really great Aguilar heads as they they have now done away with the point to point wiring etc on the newer 751. This particular one is absolutely immaculate as far as I can see. It came to me in a very solid, also superb condition, Warwick 4U rack-case & I've never taken it out so I guess there's a possibility it may have the odd bit of 'rack-rash'. I've finally decided to sell it as it's just more than I really need & it seems such a waste to be just sitting there in my music room unused for most of its life. I don't gig regularly enough in large venues to warrant a 750W head like this & it's a bit too heavy to lump to rehearsals (although every time I do my sound man tells me how great it sounds!). This is about the best pic I have: Hopefully this shows just what great condition it's in I can arrange shipping but collection or meeting up somewhere might be easier as I think shipping could be expensive. Not particularly looking for trades (unless someone has a Thunderfunk) but always open to think about options if it helps move the sale along
We're also giving free sets of guitar strings to anyone who comes through the door.
I'm guessing these are of the thin & slinky 6 string variety & not the chunky old cables us bass players use?
-
Don't suppose anyone can identify the strings on these for me? Both are flats but they sound & feel quite different. The '72 has some very smooth brighter sounding ones with silver/grey bindings and the '63 has 'stickier' and duller sounding ones with red binding (maybe Rotosound - aren't they usually red?). Pretty sure the silver/grey ones are quite new but the red ones could just be an old set of strings and are sounding/feeling a bit dull - I've really never had a bass with flats so it's a whole new world to me & I'm struggling to tell what an old set would sound like, lol.
Picking it up tomorrow.
Remember to take a trolley These really are great amps - totally deserve their 'industry standard' status over in the USA!

I love a drop of metal flake on a bass. I've been lusting after this Alleva Coppolo P at BassGear - the flake isn't huge but the colour looks much funkier in real life than it does in these pics:

Ziggy & I traded basses a few months back - transaction couldn't have been smoother and we had a really good natter at the same time too

What a shame - I've seen similar stuff before but usually other parts of the bass are showing wear as well though
Very nice indeed..is it a refinish? Si
Yep - refin body & replacement guard & pots / knobs. Everything else original as far as I know. The refin is believed to be about 20 years old so it's also beginning to show some age & wear now.

Looks much nicer in the flesh than it does in the pics
