1. I always thought Dare was real innovation in terms of classy synth pop - so much so that I even sold my first bass, a lovely little white Fender Musicmaster & traded it for a Sequential Circuits Pro-One
 2. The simplicity of the Streamliner really appeals to me but I'd like the option to have 2-3 instant channel switch options via a footswitch. I've almost always played in covers bands so having the potential to swap from disco to soul to rock with a simple footswitch really appeals to me without having to think too much, lol Interestingly the idea of a SansAmp Bass Driver pedal straight into a powered cab would pretty much do this. Not there's a thought. . . I always really liked the onboard tuner & compressor on the TV heads. I realise you can get this via footpedals but when I'm at home it's really handy not having to get all the pedals out!
 3.
No Oh, okay. I'd guess somewhere just south of $20K... Dreamboat stuff.
I would have agreed but the site does have a couple of J basses listed in early $20K's and these two are price on application only!
 4.
My real concern is that I now know it IS possible to get a YOB J bass - unfortunately I only know of one ever being made so that's going to be a bit tough to get hold of, lol. Mind you, I've seen a '59 P in see through blonde and an anodised guard that still has its original hang tags. wonder how much that is valued at. . .
Damn, the place with the '59 only has 2 of the buggers! One of them has the matching headstock too. This is the other one: Anyone want to guess a price?
 5.
Welcome to the dark side - you'll be after a YOB P-bass next
My real concern is that I now know it IS possible to get a YOB J bass - unfortunately I only know of one ever being made so that's going to be a bit tough to get hold of, lol. 6. So I've just bought back a '72 P bass (previously owned by three different people here including Wateroftyne who knows his old Fenders!). As some of you may have noticed I slashed the index finger of my left hand a couple of weeks ago and can't play with it at all. A couple of people suggested heavy padding and or gloves etc. to get me playing a bit earlier. I thought some flats might also help as I'd be able to slide around easier without catching the bandage. I remembered I had a set buried away that came with an Alleva Coppolo I bought last year. So, out they came, heavy gauge bastards they are as well - maybe 50-110's and I usually play something like 40-95's. Got it all strung up (you don't realise how much you use you bloody index finger until it's not available to you!) and then plugged it through a SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe as loaned to me by the wonderful Phil at BassGear, into a power-amp & then straight to a single Bag End 15". Sounds great!! Instant old school rocky growl, I was off playing Thin Lizzy riffs (with 3 fingers, lol) within a few seconds. Fiddled a little with the tone settings but, with some volume, the P sounds great with the tone rolled about half way off and just straight into the power-amp. No idea what this means for all those expensive 'hi-fi- basses sitting next to it on the rack. . . Here's a little pic of the beast in question:
 7.
Guitar Guitar has them in stock but I am waiting for Phil at BassGear to get them in (I guess around the end of this month as they are making them for him this week)
Cool - I've been a bit wary of them in the past as I bought something that was listed as being 'in stock' but it turned out that not only did they not have what I wanted it was actually not going to be available at all Could just have been a bit of a 'one-off' bad experience though!
 8. Who has them in stock? I tried a couple of people not that long ago and, although they were taking money through online sales, they didn't actually have any yet
 9. I saw a very similar AC LM (but a 5 not a 4) yesterday that was priced up at £3,550 - makes this one look like a great price. Shame the prices / basses weren't the other way round as I'm strictly a 4 string guy these days
 10. I can testify to the fact that the NS5XL I question is gorgeous - worth a trip to Sammy's just to try it out
 11. For those of you that thought the Adam Clayton bass was a bit 'over the top'. . .
 12.
Had a sad little moment when I saw OG's post on P1, but thats made me smile
Me too - beautifully put & so true
 13. Wow - I don't even remember posting this, must have been through a cocktail induced haze I still love the look and sound of a Rick though. I owned a late, post checkerboard, '73 for a while but never really got on with it. Still fancy having another go at one though at some point
 14.
March '87 which is close enough for me. If i get some good news in the next few days about when i start my new job and this is still around i will be in contact.
Cool - that really is pretty close. As it's a 'birthday' deal I'll chuck in shipping to the UK at this price as well
 15.
warwick serial numbers: the serial number will be on the tip of the headstock. the last two numbers give you the year, the letter at the start, the month (A = Jan B = Feb etc don't include I) the numbers inbetween are the issue number for that number bass of that year. amazing basses - I have 1990 and 1988 thumbs.
Great thanks for that - I can therefore confirm it's a February '87 Big question now is whether that's when dwh was born, lol
 16. Just spotted this that had been up for sale on US EBay recently: It was listed as an original 1964 Gold Sparkle Fender Jazz and there was some copy about AC having one very similar. Maybe he's asked them to make a P bass to match the J he already has? Personally I like it - but then I am the ex owner of a Bootsy Collins pearl sparkle star bass so what does that say about my taste in basses eh?
 17.
For some reason when I clicked on the first attachment I got a warning telling me that it's a "Known Malicious Website".
Worked Ok for me on a Mac See if this looks OK: But definitely something odd as I'm only seeing images some of the time when I look at this thread - other times I'm getting just a list of URL's +1 to the stipulation of a price though
 18. Wow, I've never really been a 'Ray fan but this orange sparkle baby looks great and an HH is about the only Ray that would really tempt me
 19. Just fyi - pre pot on mine was ever so slightly scratchy for a while and I literally just wound it back & forth several times on and off for a few days & it was just fine after that
 20.
ha ha, nice but! £1069..... sl410
Or 2 x SL112's http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_amps_de...=11021116592029
 21. Having owned both 2x12's & 1x12's, I've definitely decided I wouldn't go back to a 2x12 unless I had a larger vehicle and/or a roadie, lol. The 2x12 is about 70lbs and that's just too much for me to want to lug in and out of the car on any sort of regular basis. The DB is also a relatively deep cab if I remember rightly at about 18" and I found that a bit 'clumsy' to carry - you have to remember that I'm an old git of course I've found having a single 12 is great for rehearsals and smaller gigs. In fact the last gig I played at I used my second cab purely as a 'stand' for the first. Having both cabs on was just too boomy in the venue we were playing and a single cab worked just fine. So - summary from me is that the flexibility of two cabs always seems to work better for my use
 22.
Would it be possible for you to tell me which month in 1987 this was made in? I am trying to find a nice bass that is nearly the same age as i am. I am guessing the serial numbers worked in the same way back then as they do now.
I have to own up that I don't know how Warwick serial number dating works I'm also not entirely sure where the serial number is, lol. I have a vague recollection it might be engraved into the very tip of the headstock? The bass isn't with me at the moment as it's up on a commission sale with Phil at BassGear.
 23.
Wow, what a beauty! BUMP!
There is something a bit 'special' about these older Warwicks - can't quite put my finger on what it is but they just seem to feel 'right' when you pick them up
 24. Picked this up in a trade deal recently but I really have too many basses so have decided not to hang on to it. The best thing about this is that it has that 'classic' Warwick 'growl'. Nothing else quite delivers this sound and, in my opinion, the older Warwicks have it in abundance & sound much nicer than most newer ones. It's been properly cleaned and polished with Warwick wax and looks just lovely now. It has one of those nice thin '80's Warwick necks with a really low and easy to play action. Frets are in very good shape. Body wood is bubinga, neck is 7-ply bubinga & wenge and the fingerboard is wenge. The finish is a natural oil/wax. Nut is a brass ‘just a nut’. Bridge is a 3D4 Schaller, tuners are Schaller too. Pickups are 2 x jazz-type EMGs. Preamp is a 2 band EMG. It really is in great condition for a 24 year old bass. Feels nicely ‘played in’ but without any really heavy wear marks anywhere. A delightful, fast playing, Thumb that’s coming up for its quarter century birthday. Priced at £1,050 plus shipping. Happy to ship anywhere in the world so long as the major shippers (UPS / Fedex etc) have a service
 25.
At £2.5k for an ex demo I should hope it would be very nice indeed. If I had that kind of cash for a Precision I would buy me 3 American Standards and use the change for the variety of strings. That way I would have 3 distinct Precision sounds, the nice US neck and as a bonus I wouldn't have to look at that hideous, clubby Alleva headstock
The only person who's really demo'd this for more than a few minutes is Chuck Rainey I think It has a very expensive fingerboard upgrade, I think maybe $500 - $800+. It was genuinely priced at £3,500 so the £2,500 is the discounted price for an ex demo. Lotta cash but Jimmy's basses are seriously nice. I've thought long & hard about about buying this very one a few times but I really prefer a narrower neck profile (the '72 I have coming is more like a J bass width). Last time I was up at BG I tried this baby out http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/al...metallic-burst/ Just loved it - looks really cool in the flesh and has another great fingerboard
