1. If you look at the page, there is a pic of a candy telecaster, it has a big stamp saying "fender genuine parts" If the neck is the same, it will be easy to spot a bitsa up for sale. This is where stratosphere will still maintain market share.
2. Think warmoth and mighty mite will hurt the most, the stratosphere I think will still do ok, particularly on the signature models they part out. Their stuff will have a proper serial number, from the pics I saw from the link (granted I'm on an iPhone not a pc) these new ones just look like they have a fender logo on them? So they could be a mighty mite for all anyone else knows.
3. For me Definately, unless they are meant to be a bit goofy, the lyrics for me need to tell a story. I love metal, but I have turned away from many metal bands as more often than not the lyrics let the side down. I have spent hours looking at stuff on soundcloud for bands looking for a new bass player, I have only responded to two, while the others had some good sounds musically, the lyrics just sounded amateurish and not particularly well thought through.
4.
Has anyone stopped to consider his feelings? I thought it was the fella from wolverine what can't sing in that miserables film. Nice shirt tho...
You leave Australia's own Hugh Jackman alone, he's awesome! And to compare the two is ridiculous, ped has some work to do on those sideburns before being in the same league as wolverine.... Might need some time in the gym too 😳
5. My first port of call Is the basschat marketplace, but sometimes I get a little impatient and then go to evilbay.
6. The upshot of this is if you want to change the neck on a genuine fender, atleast you can fit a genuine fender neck. £120 is not a lot more than a mighty mite job, I for one would be tempted. It will muddy the waters of an already murky marketplace though, but hey atleast something will be genuine!
7.
Just watching now, funkin funky funk stuff, funk off anyone who's funk gland cant twitch to this shizzle...top draw groove all round
Likewise, belting concert. Nile Rodgers is just way too cool! The bass player goes ok too 😜
8. Hey guys n gals, got this bad boy back from the chop shop yesterday and I'm massively pleased with it. See the pics below http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zpsb8bdd08f.jpg.html http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zps9191b1b6.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zps45eab026.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zpse4547c3b.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 As you can see from the pics, I have had a seymour Duncan quarter pound jazz bridge pickup added, along with a matching p bass pickup thrown in. I opted to put a stacked vol/vol pot in rather than try and squeeze in an additional vol pot for the bridge pickup. It sounds amazing! I have only had a quick play through my practice amp but the p bass quarter pounder sounds really growly on its own, but when you mix in the bridge it makes it a little more well rounded and full. The bridge doesn't sound to shabby on its own either! Considering its only a single coil, it's not too noisy either. Thanks to some clever work by the guy who did the job for me, he changed the wiring and shortened the loom to minimise the noise. The other major job was to thin down the neck. Anyone who was played a mike dirnt will tell you the neck is massive! It's like playing on a cricket bat, especially if you are digitally challenged like me and have short little fingers. It has been thinned down to just below a US jazz bass, and it is a MASSIVE improvement. It feels as comfy as my jazz, but just with a wider fretboard. I opted to wax rather than respray the neck for two reasons, firstly it was cheaper, second I really wanted to try a waxed neck after hearing a lot of people saying they feel faster than a gloss neck and I have say I agree. I am really pleased with how this has turned out, the only thing I am considering is pin striping the edge of the pickguard In red to make it stand out a little more, but other than that my hot rod bass is complete. Special shout to Steve at the guitar repair workshop in PMT Manchester, he did an amazing job and delivered 5 days ahead of schedule, TOP bloke!
9. I just tried to watch the concert on bbc iplayer, to do this I had to turn my sons fireman Sam off, at which point he promptly lost his s!#t at the sight of Chic, and screamed "no daddy, no watch Milli Vanilli".... What the hell???? He's two years old and I'm sure he has no clue who they are as we have never mentioned them. Way too funny!!!
10. I don't see what all the fuss is. That is some pretty dang sweet playing! I'm not the biggest Chic fan, so maybe that explains it, but I am also of the opinion there is only one bass for that slap funk sound, and it doesn't have two pickups 😜
11. Hey rotgutz, do you do finance? I am amazed this is still here. Just out of curiosity how loud was this beast through your 810? I have a matamp 610 and my terror bass 1000 is pretty loud through it!
12. Hey all, I am just putting my pedal board together and just wondered if there was a preferred order effects should go in. Eg should a wah go before or after fuzz, and whether a sansamp bass driver should go first or last. Any advice greatly appreciated
13.
Leave it for a week or two. Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Maybe swap some of your gear around? Truckstop
Sound advice. Tell you band you need some time out (just say you are going on holidays, it is summer after all). If you come back and still not inspired you may have to think about what you will do. I find sometimes I get a bit that way, a short break and even try playing different songs/styles help keep me motivated. Have you considered going to a jam night? Maybe getting out of your comfort zone and playing with different players might inspire you. If all that fails, google either victor Wooten, stanley clarke, james jamerson, pino Palladino or jaco, that should inspire you to want to pick your bass up!
14. Sounds like what I need, the mike dirnt is like sting a cricket bat! Cool headstock though 😜
15. I have a mike dirnt signature (proper fender not squier) I might trade
16. I do think the £20 fee is putting some off. When I first got blocked trying to sell my mike dirnt bass, I was a little annoyed. But when I worked out eBay insertion fees (even if I doesn't sell) and then seller fees on top, if you are selling anything worth more than a few hundred quid, it starts to be a line ball call which is worth more. Atleast here it will run until you sell or choose to withdraw, you have a target market ready made, generally speaking the ads are accurate unlike eBay (search for a fender bass and you get all sorts of stuff), and I personally find the banter on items brill as you can get some personal reviews/experience. Also the fact that a year is a long time and your equipment needs may change (or get GAS) and you can still list on. The most important thing to remember about the fee was to help with the administration of the site, so ask yourselves what having access to this community is worth to you??? Personally I'd say £20 is a small price to get me out of watching holby city while I sit next to my wife bc'ing on my iPhone!
17. If you are buying used, I would recommend spending the extra 100 quid or so and get the 1000 watt version. I love mine, you can get the same grit, but you have loads more headroom for a clean tone if that's what you are after. Most certainly NOT a hifi sound though!
18. Yeah jamiroquai has been a secret indulgence of mine for sometime now too!
19.
Man. You got funked up. It'll pass. Don't sell yer plectrums.
Plectrums??? Fingers only here mate! Thanks for the support guys, it's true you never know where your musical journey will take you, now I've stumbles across a whole bunch if stuff from Nile Rodgerd about how he writes, BRILLIANT!
20. Hey guys I think I need to confess something here, and I'm a little ashamed to admit this. I'm a hard rock and metal fan from back in my early teens, and as such aspired to one day hold down the low end for a massive rock act. But recently I heard daft punk's new track, an all I want to do is chuck it all in and play in a funk band.... Has anyone else experienced similar issues?
21. Ozzy, iron man by Tony Iommi, it's so easy by Duff Mckagan, scar tissue Anthony keidis, slash, and while its not an autobiography "this is a call" the life and times of Dave Grohl is a good read. Marilyn Manson's book was interesting too!
22. If you like your p bass, try the nate mendel signature, it is a standard p bass width but has a ridiculously thin profile. It felt great to my hands, which are small, so I know what you are going through. My main bass is a Mexican jazz and it feels quite natural, and there are others that will fit well outside the fender family. If you are in pain there is something wrong, so seek some medical advice on that, and maybe take a break and let things settle down. Have you considered a short scale? How did you get on with the Aria??
23. Most Definately not to do with my upbringing. There was little musical consistency to my childhood, there were moment of brilliance drowned out by masses of what can only be described as torture. Beatles, beach boys, deep purple, and bob Marley drowned out my the likes of the carpenters 😳 it s a wonder I made it through!!!! I too started on a 6 string and loved it for a time, but it never quite clicked (possibly attributed to to my lack of patience and short attention span) but always liked what flea and cliff burton did. Then when I was about 20, I went on tour with "the Dixie chicks" as a lighting tech, and that's when it changed. I can still remember sitting side of stage at the dimmer racks and watching Jerry Flowers (also played for the ranch and Keith urban for your country boys n girls) absolutely grooving along on bass, and looking f#€@ing cool doing it. I got back off tour and went to to local music shop and bought my first 4 string. Enough said. Occasionally I start to think about what it would be like to be a lead guitarist or a singer, and have people actually take notice of what I do, but deep down I know where I want to be.... Deep in the pocket, locked in with the drummer and making the room shake with the low end!
24. Thanks for the link Red!!!
