1. I would recommend getting yourself a Mexican fender jazz bass. They come up here on the classified, and if you find one that's been around a while, you can get them for a lot les than what you want to spend. I would suggest investing the change in your amp, as a bassist you will quickly learn that you need a really decent amp if A) you want to be heard and you really want to fill your bands sound out. With a budget of about £400, maybe look at some trace Elliott gear, personally it's not my favourite but, hey it's cheap and it'll get you out making a racket!
2. Also there is a guy calling himself Bon Giovi, apparently that JUST different enough to avoid the lawyers!!!
3. The Ramona's are supposed to be awesome! Some others that spring to mind are mentallica and Pearl Scam. My current band is Smells Like Seattle a tribute to the whe grunge era

5. I tried them individually because I thought one of the patch leads I made, or the power supply leads may have been dodgy. Definately seems to be the combination of the three boss pedals together, but will check again as you asked so nicely!
6. Hi guys n gals. So I'm building my first pedal board and it goes something like this: Korg pitchblack Sansamp bass driver di Ehx small stone nano Dunlop 105q cry baby Black Russian big muff Way huge swollen pickle Boss oc-2 octave Boss odb-3 bass overdrive Boss ceb-3 bass chorus Running off a CIOKS big John power supply I am getting some pretty bad tone suck, mostly bottom end it seems. When I plug into the the amp direct, I get a sound I would normally expect but run through the board and I get really bad drop In volume and tone. I am assuming this is the "tone suck" everyone talks about!!! The top half of the chain seems fine, it seems to be located from the big muff on, especially in the last 3 boss pedals. Is this normal? I know the boss aren't true bypass, but are the others??? If anyone can suggest a way to rectify this that would be great!
7. Robert DeLeo was the main writer for stone temple pilots
8. Thanks for the posts, there is a combination of a few things that have been mentioned that I think have lead to this. Fortunately for me, I don't do well sat around idle so I started looking for something to keep me busy while I waited for this lot to get around to doing something. The new band are only too happy to have me on board, and atleast I'm not in a position where I have to choose now!
9. Hi guys n gals, So I got a text message from the singer/guitarist yesterday to say I had been replaced, I have to admit I was pretty annoyed to say the least. I've been working with him in the second line up of his band since September last year, and after cooling off a bit now, I think I'm more pissed about the way in which it was done than anything. If it turns out that I'm not the right fit, he needs to move on and I can live with that. Still sucks to be not good enough though 😟 and worst part is we never got to do a gig! Any one else been sacked by a band before? Would love to hear if anyone has been dumped in a more disappointing manner!!
10. My routine has gone out the window of late. I aim to do about 15-20 fret board familiarising ( I'm still learning where the notes are) so run through all the E's then work my way through the circle of fifth ( still learning that too) until I've covered the while board. Then move onto scales and spend 30-45 mins doing scales. I will spend some time through the week on all of the ones I know, but will spend the majority trying to focus on just one scale. Then move on to improv for 30-40 mins. ill get a tune or backing track and just jam, usually running around in whatever scale I am focusing on at the time. Any spare time after that ill run through the current set list for practice. I should state that if we add songs to the list, they usually get priority in my practice time. As I said, my routine has gone out the window of late, but usin this format I was getting some good results.
11. I think the lines would throw me off. I had an unlined fretless YEARS ago, the intonation was probably a bit dodgy as it was a relatively inexpensive bass, but I found you had to know where the sweet spot was on a given string/fret to play in tune. Seldom did the sweet spot line up perfectly with the string below or above, has anyone else found this??? To the OP, I really don't think it matters, it's down to the quality of the instrument. I mean jaco ripped his out, filled in the holes with plastic wood and then sealed it with boat epoxy.... Not the most conventional method, but I don't think anyone questions his sound!
12. When I first heard "everlong" by the foo fighters all those years ago, I loved it for it music/melody I thought it was an absolutely belting tune. I recently learned the words to the song, now I think it is one of the most beautifully poetic rock ballads of all time. You can feel the pain he is going through, loving someone so much but knowing that it's over. The line "breathe out, so I can breathe you in" followed by the chorus And I wonder, when I sing along with you, If everything will ever feel this real forever, If anything could ever be this good again, The only thing ill ever ask of you, You gotta promise not to stop when I say when Gives me goose bumps man! Brilliant!
13. If you look at the page, there is a pic of a candy telecaster, it has a big stamp saying "fender genuine parts" If the neck is the same, it will be easy to spot a bitsa up for sale. This is where stratosphere will still maintain market share.
14. Think warmoth and mighty mite will hurt the most, the stratosphere I think will still do ok, particularly on the signature models they part out. Their stuff will have a proper serial number, from the pics I saw from the link (granted I'm on an iPhone not a pc) these new ones just look like they have a fender logo on them? So they could be a mighty mite for all anyone else knows.
15. For me Definately, unless they are meant to be a bit goofy, the lyrics for me need to tell a story. I love metal, but I have turned away from many metal bands as more often than not the lyrics let the side down. I have spent hours looking at stuff on soundcloud for bands looking for a new bass player, I have only responded to two, while the others had some good sounds musically, the lyrics just sounded amateurish and not particularly well thought through.
16.
Has anyone stopped to consider his feelings? I thought it was the fella from wolverine what can't sing in that miserables film. Nice shirt tho...
You leave Australia's own Hugh Jackman alone, he's awesome! And to compare the two is ridiculous, ped has some work to do on those sideburns before being in the same league as wolverine.... Might need some time in the gym too 😳
17. My first port of call Is the basschat marketplace, but sometimes I get a little impatient and then go to evilbay.
18. The upshot of this is if you want to change the neck on a genuine fender, atleast you can fit a genuine fender neck. £120 is not a lot more than a mighty mite job, I for one would be tempted. It will muddy the waters of an already murky marketplace though, but hey atleast something will be genuine!
19.
Just watching now, funkin funky funk stuff, funk off anyone who's funk gland cant twitch to this shizzle...top draw groove all round
Likewise, belting concert. Nile Rodgers is just way too cool! The bass player goes ok too 😜
20. Hey guys n gals, got this bad boy back from the chop shop yesterday and I'm massively pleased with it. See the pics below http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zpsb8bdd08f.jpg.html http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zps9191b1b6.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zps45eab026.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/damoj2/media/image_zpse4547c3b.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 As you can see from the pics, I have had a seymour Duncan quarter pound jazz bridge pickup added, along with a matching p bass pickup thrown in. I opted to put a stacked vol/vol pot in rather than try and squeeze in an additional vol pot for the bridge pickup. It sounds amazing! I have only had a quick play through my practice amp but the p bass quarter pounder sounds really growly on its own, but when you mix in the bridge it makes it a little more well rounded and full. The bridge doesn't sound to shabby on its own either! Considering its only a single coil, it's not too noisy either. Thanks to some clever work by the guy who did the job for me, he changed the wiring and shortened the loom to minimise the noise. The other major job was to thin down the neck. Anyone who was played a mike dirnt will tell you the neck is massive! It's like playing on a cricket bat, especially if you are digitally challenged like me and have short little fingers. It has been thinned down to just below a US jazz bass, and it is a MASSIVE improvement. It feels as comfy as my jazz, but just with a wider fretboard. I opted to wax rather than respray the neck for two reasons, firstly it was cheaper, second I really wanted to try a waxed neck after hearing a lot of people saying they feel faster than a gloss neck and I have say I agree. I am really pleased with how this has turned out, the only thing I am considering is pin striping the edge of the pickguard In red to make it stand out a little more, but other than that my hot rod bass is complete. Special shout to Steve at the guitar repair workshop in PMT Manchester, he did an amazing job and delivered 5 days ahead of schedule, TOP bloke!
21. I just tried to watch the concert on bbc iplayer, to do this I had to turn my sons fireman Sam off, at which point he promptly lost his s!#t at the sight of Chic, and screamed "no daddy, no watch Milli Vanilli".... What the hell???? He's two years old and I'm sure he has no clue who they are as we have never mentioned them. Way too funny!!!
22. I don't see what all the fuss is. That is some pretty dang sweet playing! I'm not the biggest Chic fan, so maybe that explains it, but I am also of the opinion there is only one bass for that slap funk sound, and it doesn't have two pickups 😜
23. Hey rotgutz, do you do finance? I am amazed this is still here. Just out of curiosity how loud was this beast through your 810? I have a matamp 610 and my terror bass 1000 is pretty loud through it!
24. Hey all, I am just putting my pedal board together and just wondered if there was a preferred order effects should go in. Eg should a wah go before or after fuzz, and whether a sansamp bass driver should go first or last. Any advice greatly appreciated
