I found the transition easy - I credit this to ditching my "thumb on the pickup" as an anchor point and adopting a "floating thumb" technique instead....if that makes sense?

Chestnut on average tends to be very much like Oak. Uncommon as it is there is no real reason why a nice piece of Chestnut would not make a nice bass guitar body imho.

Coming out of your comfort zone is essential for lasting change and improvement. The vast majority of the populous are risk averse by nature....but in reality, whats the worst that can happen?

A word to the wise my good fellow...you need to talk to Alan from ACG, I am certain he could build you an instrument that would meet your criteria. Alan builds killer fretless basses with a filter based preamp that would make a Wal blush...and at your budget.

Follow your heart and move the 78 on. You already know this is the right thing to do on an unconscious level. You already have the Lakland Glaub, and as you consider it close then put your health first (always) and take it on the chinny, chin, chin.

Theres nothing wrong with changing basses, it often freshens tings up and reinvigorates your paying.....but be aware the perfect bass does not exist. It is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I was a huge Rush fan for about 30 yrs, however their work over the last 10 yrs or so leaves me disinterested. I have a tremendous respect for them though. Geddy is incredibly talented, indeed a worthy legend of the instrument...but the whole modern Fender/Sansamp/flamenco thing just doesn't work for me.
