1. Got a problem with my new Jazz. I've noticed a crackling coming through my amps. It goes if you touch the strings, or my new F bridge cover or the chrome plate under the knobs. If you tap the plate crackles start again. I had a slight shock too pulling out the lead when live. I'm thinking maybe its some kind of earthing problem ? If so what's the best way of fixing it...? I'll take it back to the tech on Saturday. Thanks guys.
2. I like my Fender Rumble 15. About £100 and I play my iPad through it at the same time as my Bass. Sounds good :-)
3. Got my 60s Jazz back today with its covers and tug bar. The Tech cut the nut, shaved and polished the frets, oiled the fretboard, replaced the strings, lowered the action, reset the intonation and reset it ... £50
4. Dunno what Flex thought of it but I really like it, it's sort of growly but sort of double bass sound if you play over the neck. I've rolled off the trebble so it's about half way. I like blues and country so I really like it. I've been playing a Caro Emerald song with it and it sounds good to me. It's got factory rounds on it which I'll probably change to flats and I'm hoping to get a vintage sound out of it. Sounds very different to my AM P :-)
5. No worries Marc. This year the show was really cheap with train tickets about £25 and travelodge about £35. Next year I see that the travelodge is about £60 at the moment and although march train tickets haven't been released yet the February tickets are about £75 return for me. Weekend pass is about £30 if prebooked by December.
6. Bumperty bump :-). Come on guys time for another with new members on Basschat ; I've got 3 new basses for you to try...a Warwick Pro Star Bass...semi acoustic , a Fender Cabronita P and a 60s Classic Jazz. Plus Gary is going to buy my 5 string off me :-D ...or just meet up for a coffee in Starbucks or something and talk bass :-) How about a trip to the Bass Show in March. Cheap train tickets should be out soon. This year I'm going to get a late train back on the Sunday and go to both days :-)
7. Hey guys, I've just bought a Fender 60s Jazz and I'm sticking the covers and finger rest on it to give it a vintage look and I was wondering what strings would be best to give it a 60s sound. What did the guys do back in the day and what strings were available then. What would be a good alternative today? I've got flats on my P so I'm going for rounds on the jazz. I'll post up a photo when I get it back at the weekend from the tech who is doing a little work on the neck action. Also can you access the trussrod screw by just taking the pick guard off or do you need to loosen the neck screws on the back and risk cracking the finish. Tech says the latter which would be a pain.
8. Lol, she noticed the almost same colour Cabronita after a few days but hasn't noticed the OW Jazz yet..go figure :-)
9. Enjoying my new Cabronita P :-) probably change to flats though
10. The Epi Jack Casady sounded good to me though :-) Looked good too :-)
11. In the end I bought 2 Mex Basses in the last few days.... a Cabronita P off Flex and the Classic 60s Jazz from Thomann. Got to admit that the set up on both Mex was really good especially the intonation. Each note on both hit the middle green on my tuner. Just raised the E and G on the Jazz and ready to go I had all sorts of set up issues with my AM P Starting a nice Fender collection now if you can see them in the curtains Good thing too is that the wife hasn't noticed the new Cabronita as its virtually the same colour so she thinks I've just bought the Jazz Got a F Bridge cover, pick-up cover and thumb rest so its into the shop tomorrow to fit The really funny thing with both Mex is that there is hardly any winds on the posts....just 1 1/2 loose turns on all posts on both basses. Some guy is cutting them short and selling the ends to the scrap man to buy more Tacos in the market
12. Thanks Pete. Ace Bass :-) My pleasure Paul
13. Just bought the Cabronita P off Pete. Just as described and delivered super fast by courier. Thanks again Pete
14. OH dear, its far too easy to buy a Bass on Basschat with internet banking Thanks a lot Pete
15. How much is it going for now Flex? Wouldn't mind seeing photos of it
16. Just turned over :-). Saw them at The Bulldog Bash a couple of years back :-)
17.
The Mex Classic 60's Jazz Bass is basically a Roadworn without the nitro and the dents (although you can now get a nitro version too, without the relic treatment). I bought a neck from a Classic 60's and it was excellent. I also have a set of the standard vintage pickups from a Roadworn Jazz, which the classic 60's is also fitted with and they're excellent too.
SOLD :-) Ordered one but ordered the Vintage covers and thumb rest too....... cheap 60s vintage bass :-) £1100 less than the American 63 Vintage but perhaps will look and sound similar....
18. The Mex Classic 60s seems the better option .. And is got the tort pick guard rather than black :-D
19. Fancy a Fender Jazz in OW. There isn't much price difference between the American Special and the Mexican Classic 60s. Which would you go for if you are a Fender fan :-) I'm wondering if quality is a bit of a lottery with the cheaper basses...eg you might get a good Mexican or a poor American ?
20. I'd go straight to Grade 3... You won't miss anything. I went straight there myself after 6 months of not having played any instrument.
21. I got Rockschool Grade 3 with Merit after 6 months of playing and spending so much time on it held back my playing. I've improved a lot since I binned grades a year ago. I've taken a look at Trinity Grade 4 and although it has real recorded songs it doesn't have the technical exercises that you get with Rockschool ..... Scales, modes etc. I suspect therefore that Rockschool is more involved but I might do a Trinity at some stage
22. Try not to buy too many basses Butt :-D
23. Luckily I've found after 18 months playing that I love my second Bass, my P. Sold 3 basses in the last 2 weeks. Looking to sell my G & L 2500 Tribute 5 string probably but it's a great bass so might keep it for the future. Definitely keeping my Warwick Pro Star Bass. Going to get an AM Standard Jazz. Possibly a Rick in the future. That should do me and cover most basses, pun intended... Famous last words :-D
