1.
Sounds like bouncy skate punk to me... Missed your calling in the 90s with riffs like that, you'd have had kerrang Tv on the phone... Nice groove though and you didn't even need the additional 3 seconds really as they are silent... Unless that's a deliberate dramatic pause, in which case I apologise.
Yea, I seem to knock out skate punk riffs most of the time. Glad you liked the groove though ;p I think the 3 seconds were while I was reaching for the recorder to turn it off!
2. Right-o. If you can do it so can I so I dusted off the metronome, got a fresh new pick and here it is. This time it's more rounded than the first effort. As I can't do up and down the fingerboard scale type runs like everyone else here are a couple of riffs for a song in progress. It still sounds like it was composed by 15 year old me but I guess that's my style! Am Std. P-Bass V into a Zoom H4n. No processing or other manipulation. Noodle It's also 1:03. Please don't ban me
3. I gone and done a noodle! Actually, I did lots of noodles from my P V directly into a Zoom H4n. Lots of level tweaks and getting sounding nice. Then I deleted them all because they are so bad it's embarrassing, no flair or compositional beauty.
4. I set mine up using the Gain control on Channels A & B to get the amount of overdrive I wanted and then I use the Master A & B for the overall volume. I think I've got B almost all the way up and A to just before it breaks up. At the moment it's house shakingly loud, but that's because it's still on practice room with a drummer volume
5. One thing I noticed with a laptop is that mine produces a lot of noise on the recording if it's plugged into the mains. Running on battery stops it happening but it's something to be aware of.
6.
At the other end of the scale you have stuff like Iron Maiden's 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son', where apparently there was a story being told but to this day I have no idea what that story was, apart from a vague idea that it might have had something to do with wizards.

7th Son of a 7th Son is about a child born with mystical powers: and the rush to kill him before they fully awaken and brings doom on everyone etc.
I understand that 7th Son was supposed to be a "proper" concept album, but for whatever reason that idea was dropped. The story is all there but the tracks are jumbled up. If you wanted to hear the story you have to reorder the album. I have done it, but it took some fiddling programming the CD player. These days with computers it'd be easy:)
7. I was trying to keep this a bit quiet so as not to ruin the surprise but... Would anyone like to come to this years Midlands Bass Bash and do a mini-masterclass or seminar on their interest or profession? Bass related, as interesting as I find crankcase rebuilds I'm not sure anyone else does I'm thinking along the lines of those who build to bring their wares or do something on setups for example, sound engineers to do something on FOH mixing or recording, the life of a cruise bass player with anecdotes. Anything really. I'm only looking for three or four speakers otherwise we'd run out of time, but builders are welcome to set up a stall in the room. It's not a trade show by any means, and I don't want it to be but I'd like a bit more pizazz to it than last year PM me with any ideas, partly to keep the suspense, but mostly not to clutter the boards with organisation details! Simon

Strat info

Sorry, that was a mistake on my part. I saw this: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-standard-stratocaster-2011-candy-apple-red-maple/52846 and the bit halfway down that said upgrade to American Standard for however much it is thinking that that was the price, not that it was on top of the price for what I assume is the MiM one.

Strat info

I don't know if it's any help but GAK have got MiM Strats for £440 and USA ones for £650 or so. £700 strikes me as a lot for one that no one is sure of the provenance. I may have missed something in the thread that says I'm wrong though If it were me, I'd be looking at a super Strat, HSH pickups, Floyd Rose etc, but then you are talking money
11.
Not cool ...
Tort and sunburst. Told you so
12. Tort and sunburst are not, and never can be cool
13.
Hope they actually brew this, then I can raise a glass,
They already do. It's not bad, but I prefer normal Hobgoblin. It would be nice if they did a run with that label though.
14. Last night the young lad who came to the first one returned. We were a bit stymied by the Wendy-Ball being on in the pub so we stayed unplugged until it finished. We were talking about word of mouth. If all the people we collectively know turned up it would be reasonably attended. People being people, don't do what you would like on the whole... I'm going to try and keep it friendly, mix up the people and stop anyone hogging the evening, unless there's only one of them of course and they fit in with the rest! It's only been going two evenings though, so I'm not expecting anything exciting to happen for a while. I did get praised for my Sweet Child O' Mine. I nailed it according to the chap in the pub. I only know the intro and the verse and I had to start the intro twice because I messed it up. Still, it pleased him!
15.
I truth I'm not sure what to do with it... I have a fretless Wal for all my fretless needs, but I do have need of a fretted four, so I may source a block and bound fretted neck for it.
Probably a silly suggestion, but rather than buying a new neck for it, could you ask the chap who is building it to fret it? I'm sure he'd rather that happened than you not find it quite right for your needs.
16. Quick plug, the next Music Night will be on the 27th of January in the Crown Inn in West Haddon. From half eight until chucking out time.
17. I suppose it depends on whether you like the tarnished brass look. It'll dull down to a sort of bronze colour. It could be lacquered to preserve the shine if you wanted to. I've got a brass sundial my dad made a note that was mirror finish when it was new, but the tarnish looks lovely now it's a few years old. Still scratch free but just browner if that makes sense.
18. I like the Duff Mckagan signature bass, but only because it's a PJ P-bass without a scratch plate and I think it looks really neat. I it was a 5er I'd seriously consider it. I also like the Steve Harris one, as he's a bit of a bass hero of mine, but it's got to be the blue sparkle one for me.
19. Dave, goes under the forum name of Obbm
20. There will be a raffle, so if you have anything that you think would make a good prize (read: want to move on!) then bring it along.
21. It's just a social really, meet people from the forum and try any basses that get brought along. Show of your own kit if you brought anything, drink tea or coffee and if you're lucky eat cake!
22.
Howdy I'm free that day - added date on calendar.
You said that last year
23. In the vein of not letting inexperience stop me I'm now running jam nights on Wednesdays at my local. The first one was tonight and just when I was getting worried people showed up. Only two a 16 year old and a chap who had been playing guitar for nine months, but has been playing bass for a year. I'm not sure what I expected but from small acorns big oak trees will grow. Trying them to start off was hard work though, but once the ice had broken we got on OK. We all learnt something from each other and no one got upset. More advertising required for next week I feel. If anyone wants to pop along it's in West Haddon. PM for details
