1. LOL!!!! Interesting to see you start this thread For what it's worth, I think it depends on the time commitment and whether you have enough..... 3 bands that only gig occasionally and rarely rehearse would be less intensive than a band that rehearses every week and is gigging every weekend. As you know, I am needing to review my situation as am currently in two bands that both rehearse every week and one that has started gigging, one which is going to start in June....!! Take next week.... Monday, bass lesson, Tuesday, learn material for band 2, Wednesday, rehearsal band 1, Thursday, rehearsal band 2, Friday, gig band 1. So, time wise (with other things going on at home too) I'm going to have a pretty hectic week! So for me, I need to make some serious decisions!!
2.
Been doing it all week Deb... I had early issues when it shifts to single notes from the a flat .... But got it mostly now .... Just a bit out of time for the second intro riff after the b flat, a flat, bflat bit... But making it to the end now in excess of 4 minutes.... Stuck a pop in there on the C after the 3 a flat notes :-)
Would be really interesting to send each other recordings, to see how we have interpreted it differently. I'm doing a few slides back down to the starting F . No pops in my version though, I pants at doing pops
3. OMG!!! That song grooves!!! Street life by Randy Crawford.... What a bloody awesome song!! I was given it as homework in my last bass lesson, but with learning songs for my audition yesterday (which I got! ) and rehearsing hard for a set of gigs with my old band, I hadn't had time to look at it until today! It's a real challenge to play, but I reckon I'm 75%-80% of the way there..... One of the things that makes it SOOOO hard is that it is a physical impossibility not to dance whilst playing it So basschatters, any songs that you just can't stop playing, and any songs you just have to dance whilst playing them?
4.
Actually recorded this in January, but only got around to finishing the edit last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSEe1pASd_Q&feature=youtu.be
That was completely stunning, absolutely brilliantly executed. I was listening in awe. Amazing vocals too, and (she says lowering the tone and being a bit girlie) god gosh he's hot
5. I guess they need to be mostly acoustic sets..... can just imagine the neighbour complaints if all the band whack up their amps and PA's Great idea though.
6.
Yeah. I use the Zoom Q3 - which gives the same audio, but also video. I'm thinking of getting the Zoom Q2HD which does audio, video in HD ..... AND ... can be used to stream live gigs.
Bugger, now you've given me GAS!!!! I wish I had a £1000
7. Only a teeny tiny dent in it, but do you have a recording device to record rehearsals/gigs. I'd recommend the zoom H1 recorder.
8. I think this was one of the hardest to vote on. I could have voted for so many due to the diverse qualities. In the end I went with the one that I felt reflected the picture best as musically I just wouldn't have been able to chose!! Great entries guys
9. Oh no!!!! I'm due to go to London in 4 weeks...... Why do I suspect that I am going to end up hammering my credit card again!!!!
10. Interested reading this as there is talk about us doing a local caravan park regular gig in the summer!
11. Just stuck some on and given it a whirl.... Much smoother gliding
12. Bought some fast fret on the way home
13. Welcome to the forum. I echo whats been said, what is the best differs hugely from person to person, so its what feels right and sounds right and doesn't completely break the bank
14.
I used to be normal well relativly speaking... Anyway, this seems like a freindly forum to be a part of. I always enjoy reading these posts so hopefully I can be a part of that too.
Not entirely convinced that being normal and being a bassist are compatable This is a great friendly place, so welcome and enjoy
15. Hello and welcome
16. Hello and welcome Have spent many a good break in the Scottish borders as a good friend of mine is from Hawick
17. I'd seen Fast Fret used by guitarists, didn't know if it was any good for us low end folk!! Assume its fine to use on both flats and roundwounds?
18. I am noticing that the slide is not that gentle under my fingers!! Blister forming nightmare!! Can I do anything to my strings (La Belle flats) to make the glide smoother? (eg. grease them in someway?) My audition tomorrow has two quite gorgeous fretless pieces, and I have a local music shop which is open after I finish work if I need to buy anything. Thankyou
19. Another vote.... good luck
20.
...or maybe if I join a Metal Band, this Aerosmith doorag with attached hair I got in Orlando
Oh Paul that is just too funny
21. Brilliant
22.
If you want to drive them mad in a music shop then Hell Aint A bad place to be by ACDC could probably do the job
PMSL You've really made me giggle with that!! Can't believe nobody has mentioned "Love Cats" yet.... Or is that just me? I usually do Love Cats, then Locked out of Heaven, then some scales when I try a bass!
23. Hello and welcome
24. That was seriously cool Kevin Welcome to Basschat!
25. The best cover version I have heard of that song (and I've heard a few). I love Crowded House, and I always think its tough for people to do their songs justice, but once again Kit's sublime voice backed by all you talented guys have knocked it out of the ball park... Sensational Nige (also some rather snazzy looking moves from you in your silk gloves and hat!)
