1. I've got the same problem on the B and E strings of my Streamer. Apparently it's a known problem with some Warwicks. The advise I was given was to either use tapered strings (No) or file the anchor part of the bridge down a bit (not got around to it yet).
 2.
If you sit in, you call the tunes and after your tunes then let someone else (or the house bassist) take over again.
While I get that it's a good idea to carry the parts and be able to call the tunes, most of the time the person who will call the tunes will either be the band leader or the horn players (whoever is taking the head usually).
 3.
Everyband needs a stagemanager. A person who calls the shots when on stage, who decides whether you do an encore, skip tunes, what tunes to play next, stop for a break etc. Usually it's the singer, but it's down to them to deal with the situation and call in staff if it looks like it's going to get nasty.
All that should be the band leaders job.If that's the singer, fine, but more often than not,it isn't. If there is any hassle, whoever has the best sightline with someone should signal them to sort it out. Often, you don't actually need to stop playing.
We avoid playing dives for a start, but would expect the venue to deal with those things.
It's not about playing dives....you get drunken idiots at even the poshest of functions.
 4. Just bought a CoPilot Molecule from Will. Dead easy transaction and top guy to deal with. Cheers
 5.
There is a short excerpt from Wictor's book interview online called 'Requiem for a Heavyweight' http://www.cidanka.n...ly/stbp0397.htm
That's a really good book....it's basically full versions of 4 of Wictor's interviews for Bass Player Magazine-The Thunes interview takes up about half the book. With regards to Thunes being the reason for Frank stopping touring (I get the feeling that it was mostly down to Ed Mann),I think that he was obviously respected by the Zappa family so much that when Dweezil started to tour and record,Thunes was his first choice Bass Player.
 6. Elites Stadium Series .040-.130 I've used a lot of different string brands and I still like D'Addario and Ernie Ball, but I really like the sound and feel of Elites.
 7. Very cool. I'm a fan of the '88 band too-I've got a great DVD of that band in Barcelona. Although,he did some great stuff throughout his career.
 8.
I don't think i would be surprised at all, i did say that loads of guitarists only think they can play bass, but then there are the ones who can play bass. Would you not recommend that teacher on the basis that he gets more guitar students than bass students? because that is what it is in essence.
Personally I would be looking for someone who is predominantly a bass teacher, especially if technique is an issue. However if the guitar player in question was the better musician/teacher who knew how to approach the bass in various style, could read and had good knowledge of music then they'd get the recommendation...unless,of course, there was a bass player who could do all of this.
 9.
you can disagree all you like, because somebody learned guitar first doesn't mean that they aren't also as good on bass, or maybe even better.
True...but there are a few things that I would personally look out for. Firstly technique-a lot of primarily guitar teachers don't have the greatest bass technique, particularly with the right hand. Secondly, how familiar are they with the bass clef? For that matter,do they understand treble clef? Thirdly,do they actually 'play' bass? Meaning,do they actually understand the role of the instrument in real world situations rather than treating it like a lower guitar? You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't) of the number of guitar teachers who 'play a bit of bass' that don't understand these things.
 10.
Turns out the Soundman is a basschatter and there were 2 other BC guy there as well!?
Was Matt the soundman? I was going to try to make it,but I was recording till quite late last night.
 11. The soundtrack lists a few different player ( Mike Porcaro, David Hungate, Max Bennett, David Allen Ryan, Wm. J. Bodine, Dean Cortez, Harold Cowart), but I believe that it was actually Max Bennett on that particular track.
 12.
I found many times that there is stuff so If you read chord charts it might help you.
It depends...some guys carry real books, others expect you to know the tunes.
 13. Learn Rhythm Changes and various altered Blues forms and you'll have a lot of stuff covered. If you are going to jams, make a note of what tunes they are playing.
 14. Someone's been watching Oteil Burbridge
 15.
I really want to get a Mi10 to go with for an extreme 'MiniRig' but with flexibility of still using through 2 cabs when required.
Just slightly off topic, but the Mi10 cab is meant to be used alone and is 4 Ohm. If you want the option of using 2 cabs,go for the Mi12 which is 8 Ohm.
 16.
How does it sound compared to their big amps? I never got on with the MAG and the ABM.
Neither did I particularly, but the MiBass, for me,is a total winner.I replaced my Genz Benz with the MiBass 550 and recently added the Mi12 cab. It's a killer amp. I had the Genz because I preferred it to the Mark Bass and TC amps, and I got the Ashdown because I preferred it to the Genz Benz. So yes, they are worth checking out.
 17. The only strap I've ever had a problem with was a Levys clear one.It looked cool, but it was some kind of plastic-y material and it split around the strap lock. All my other straps-Levys (leather and webbing),Comfort Strapp,Perris and others-have been fine.No problems at all, both with and without straplocks.
 18. Just out of interest,I've never put any kind of oil on any of my basses. They probably have something put on them when I send them to have work done (I don't know),but I've never done it myself. I've got some Dr Ducks Ax Wax lying around that I was given, but I've never opened it. I never clean my strings either.
 19. Essentials? Tuner,Volume,DI. Non essential but useful? Octave,Envelope,Delay,Flanger,Distortion/Overdrive,Synth,Chorus,Phaser,Compressor,Wah.........
 20.
Hendrix is familiar by name to at least 95% of non-musicians who listen to rock music, and his work is familiar to 95% of musicians who play guitar.
I think that is because he sung and fronted his own band, rather than because of his guitar playing. If he'd have just played guitar,no matter how good you think he was,he wouldn't have been even half as familiar to most people. In a similar way,Larry Graham is more well know (at least in the US) for singing 'One in a Million You' than he is for playing bass.
 21. I've been using in ears for a few years now, both with and without an amp,and it's dead easy to set up. Take a signal from your Sansamp to the desk as you normally would, then take a line out of the desk to your in ears in the same way as you would for a standard wedge monitor. That way you can have a whole band mix in your ears with everything at the levels that you want.
 22.
A ramp or a plate..? A plate would have the purpose of adding a little attack to the slap... and this would be placed on the neck. A ramp generally goes between the pickups...or that ballpark type position... and is for stopping the fingers/thumb going too far under the strings if you use a 4 fingered technique or double thumping.
A ramp, not a plate. Basically it's a ramp at the base of the neck that brings the playing surface closer to the strings. Usually it's thinner than a normal ramp so that you can still get underneath the strings, but it gives the same result ,in that it stops you going too far under the strings. Like I said earlier,I prefer to slap on my Fenders because the scratchplate makes the gap between the strings and the body smaller.
 23.
I'd of thought that Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce and John Entwhistle had a major hand in defining what bass was about, for me anyway.
I don't know. Putting aside my personal feelings towards their playing,McCartney was hugely influenced by what Jamerson was doing and Jack Bruce was basically taking Jazz and Blues and applying them to a rock style. I think they were important players within their genres(Entwistle too, despite me not liking him) but in the same way,so was Larry Graham. Graham was as important to funk as Bruce was to Rock, but with the added spice of (possibly) creating a whole new playing technique that has spread throughout music. But,calling him the 'Hendrix of Bass' is just wrong. Magazines have been saying that for years about Jaco and that's wrong too. They each brought their own thing. Larry Graham does what he does, and does it very well.
 24.
All sounds like a load of cobblers to me. Ramps for thumb rest, yes, for slapping???? Fingers get trapped under strings that are too close to the body, not the other way around.
I totally get it. I prefer to slap on my Fenders because the scratchplate raises the surface a bit. I don't like a large space between the strings and the body. A ramp for fingerstyle playing doesn't really interest me at all,but I'd be more inclined to get a thinner one for slap playing.
 25.
do the whole covers band set every two days or so, even if we've not got gigs.
I couldn't do that....I also don't really see the point if you are already playing the set regularly. I play most days, usual something that I can't play already...be it new songs or exercises or whatever. I'll sometimes step back and relearn something that I've not played for a long time, but I always try to do something different. Of course there have been times after busy periods where I want to get away from the instrument for a few days,so I won't play much, just enough to keep my hands working, but generally I'll pick the bass up everyday for a bit.
