1. I have not owned many instruments. Either I bought well or am too tight. first Bass was a Yahama P Bass Copy had a Hohner B2-A an Ibanez Roadster I Vester fretless that I changed into something useful rest of basses I bought I still have.
2. Miles was long gone by then. Assuming the Bass was built in 1998 . 32K seems a lot.
3. sitting down the reach seems very long. without a leg-rest insert I doubt the instrument is playable. with a strap + standing it's nowhere near as noticeable. My issues were actually with the "lack" of a placement point for my right thumb. IMO an instrument well worth getting to grips with it's quirks. They really are fantastic.
4. I like the MTD Grendel. Probably not many around, Czech made. I also have a Tobias Growler. This is a Gibson era instrument, light, very powerful sound. TBF they don't have the best press but if it's the worst bass with Tobias written on it I'm well keen for a go on a decent one.
5. MTD Grendel DeArmond Pilot reissue both are 35" scale , hold tuning, good string to string balance and Low B sounds authentic.
6. what did Holme say about this? I know I wouldn't have been impressed.
7. er, yeah, 4-5 choruses I think. IIRC the issue is bars 11 and 12 are an interesting choice of chord Ab7#11(??) furthermore in the deep recesses of my brain I think the original recording could be "out of tune". which may not help eh if my Wife will help me work this scanner we could be good to go tomorrow
8. most bands fail due to non-musical reasons
9. Morley Bass Wah goes good with distortion.
10. One of England's Greatest song-writers. A National Treasure no less. Ian Bairnson played the guitar solo, he also wrote for Bucks Fizz.
11. Led Zeppelin II Miles Davis - Kind of Blue B.B. King - Completely Well Prince - Come Joni Mitchell - Mingus Charles Mingus - Blues and Roots Donny Hathaway - Live The Smiths - Hatfull of Hollow M'Shell Ndegecello - Peace beyond Passion Blue Nile - Peace at Last
12.
I've just been watching a Chili's live concert and think that Flea is an amazing player. The way he grooves and fills out the sound for a three-piece is astonishing. Why do people knock him?
they have decided the world has no need for a white Louis Johnson?
13. 2 separate pieces to learn. Do so individually. Generally you'll find one a lot easier than the other. The merge of the 2 parts is done slowly. Out of time is no thing, you'll need the notes first. agree with BJ that once the two are fused you can't play one without the other funny how that goes.
14. I had a Hohner B2A which was a good bass, but wildly different 'performance' between active and passes modes. The L2 is considerably different again and while I hesitate to use the word better when describing tone I much prefer the L2. For an instrument with no body it sure provides a lot of body
15.
The L2 has a deep U profile, I suppose anything would feel flat after that, but it was definitely flatter than any of my Stingrays
it's more like a P than a J the strap pivot is a brilliant idea/concept please clarify or expand on "L2 is more aggressive than XL" please.
16.
Lovely! Rare as hen's teeth, and the last "proper" Guild solid electric bass IMHO Good price - wish I could fund it.....
no fan of the Pilot?
17. I like the Diamond Fire-Burst a mate has an Attack-Goat, that is cool too.
18. Is this Love? - Bob Marley Pull up to the Bumper - Grace Jones 5:15 - The Who
19. apparently James Jamerson had one
20. Completely Well is Completely Cool.
21. Jerry Jemmott. his work with B.B.King remains the high water mark for Blues Bass playing "Completely Well" is my pick for his recordings with King. if you cannot feel this music there is a problem.
22. it's just practice. Time on the instrument sorts most things. I never found the B string a problem, more for me was the D and G strings with right hand plucking. I bought a wide neck 35" scale 5'er to better ensure accurate playing. Once I got comfortable with the 5 I bought a 'better' quality instrument also 35" but with a narrower string spacing.
23. a cracking recording for sure top lyrics too, I sure like the Biblical stuff.
24. you are correct, the answer is feel. Play with conviction or failing that , love
