1. I think my GAS has been cured with my latest purchase - a 2005 CIJ vintage white mustang bass. But then again it would be nice to have a non-export mustang in california blue as well if I can order one from Japan...
2. WD Music or Aurora Project should be able to make you one. If you don't mind drilling some extra holes in the bass body it should be easy to fit a standard fender replacement one from ebay, for example from This seller.
3. At a hundred squid this bass will an absolute bargain for a southpaw that likes girly basses. http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info_DR6330L.html <-- This is a Pic of right-handed one I bought my 12 year-old one of these for xmas (right handed) at just over double the price of this one, which was still a bargain and she loves it.
4. I bet it seemed like a good idea at the time
5.
spend the extra on a set of strings that will feel better, sound better and last longer - you won't replace them as often either, i bet.
+1 The younger me wouldn't have entertained the idea of spending anything like £30 on a set of strings, but these days whenever I get a new bass I put a set of TI jazz flats on. I've been using them for five years now and once they're on I haven't needed to change them on any of my basses.
6. It does look good on the page, but I think that's 2,500 Marketing Watts - There's no indication of whether the stated power rating is at 8 Ohms, 4 Ohms or even 2 Ohms, neither does it say if its peak or RMS.

8. I'd use Danish Oil - wipe on, wipe off. I did a telecaster body with it and didn't bother with any sanding or waxing and it came out great, just wiped on a couple of coats.
9. According to Ampeg.com For replacement parts Customers outside of the US and Canada must contact their local Mackie distributor to order spare and replacement parts. So that'll be LOUD Technologies Europe PLC Unit 1, Century Point, Halifax Road, Cressex Business Park High Wycombe England, HP12 3SL Phone: + 44 (0) 1494 557 398 Fax: + 44 (0) 1494 438 669 Email: [email protected] I can google
10. A Badass II would work on a jag with no drilling needed. You will need to file slots on the saddles or get a pre-slotted bridge. As for the neck dive its easier & cheaper to move the top strap button. I cured the dive on my thunderbird (probably the worlds most neck-divingest bass) by moving the button to the neck heel area.
11. To check the intonation - Using an electronic tuner can you see if the harmonic over the 12th fret is exactly the same pitch as the fretted note at the 12th for each string? If not it needs setting up properly. Its definitely worth learning how to do your own setups as it really is money for old rope once you get the hang of it and understanding how everything interacts will enable you to set up your instrument exactly how you like it.
12. I quite fancy one of the 30" scale LPB jazzes - It'll make me look like I'm taller.
13.
Bolt neck, with threaded inserts and machine screws, gotta be the way, can do them up as tight as you like without stripping, anf you can adjust the action and everything.
I've often wondered why more manufacturers don't do this
14.
I think its a mouth swab, Tom...
So we want to know which celebrity had his c*ck in his mouth? Urgh!
15.
This older more experienced bassist told me in a shop to purchase a thru-neck as it prevents the neck moving
That's utter b0llocks. Only very badly made bolt ons will move. I have both types and my preference is for bolt-ons as I like to shim the neck to get the set-up I like which is low action with very little relief, but the strings quite high near the bridge, I can never get a set/thru neck set up as well as my trusty bolt-ons. Others might prefer what they hear as better sustain of a neck-thru or more punch of a bolt-on, but I'm not really convinced that there is a major difference in sound.
16. I'm sure its a Framus Star Bass - look at the body shape & headstock on this one. The only difference I can see seems to be the pickguard: http://www.framus-vintage.de/modules/model...ID=83&cl=DE
17. Close but no cigar - the cutaway is a different shape, there are two "f" holes and the tuners have plastic buttons. It looks more like an old framus star bass to me.
18. I like 'em - particularly the banana custard one, although for that price I'd rather get a CIJ mustang bass in california blue and lots of beer.
19. Whenever I've had problems with jack sockets, bending them back into shape was at best a temporary solution and the permanent solution was to replace them with switchcraft sockets. Cheapo ones are often fairly flimsy and more liable to bending out of shape. I'm not sure what's fitted to MIM Ps, but if it isn't a switchcraft its a cheap & easy upgrade that could be worth doing.
20.
I do too. I have a Gibson SG reissue. It's super sweet. Currently strung with TI flats.
Nice - TI flats are my favourite strings - all my 34" basses have JF344, but I have mostly old roto flats on my 30" basses . I tried JF324s on the mustang and they fit perfectly - v pleased with that combination.
21. In addition to my 34" basses including Three Precisions, a jazz and a thunderbird I also love 30" scale basses - I have a korean danelectro longhorn a '71 sonic blue musicmaster, a shell pink Squier musicmaster and the newest addition - a CIJ vintage white mustang which is my favourite to play of all my basses at the moment. My daughter also has two 30" basses and a 32" Anyone else into short scale basses?
22. I saw pics of a "vintage white" one that looked even cooler than the red one, but white doesn't seem to even be available as an option in japan now - they do have sunburst though.
23. I got one as well , but the cheers1 coupon didn't work for me
24. I have the guitar version of the MP3 trainer as it was available before the bass one came out. I never bother with the fx anyway, so I'm very pleased with it. The only gotcha with it is that is is a bit fussy about the format of the mp3 files, but if I make them 128k @44.1 its happy. I tend to use ogg files on my iriver & samsung players, so if I need to convert the files I tend to use nero, but for converting from wma I think you can use windows media player, but there's also a handy article here: http://www.jakeludington.com/windows_media...wma_to_mp3.html I find the size of the mp3 trainer very handy - much more convenient to use than the CD trainer and being able to recharge the battery over usb is great. It would be much better if it could handle muliple playlists, more formats (such as wma/ogg) and maybe a colour screen with a more intuitive UI, but apart from those minor niggles I don't think I'd be able to find a device that I like so much for learning / practicing.
