1. I don't think I'm likely to be dropping my LMII off any tall buildings anytime soon, so I think I'll be OK.
2. Yawn! Any thread started with a post that ends with the word "discuss" usually seems to be not looking for any answers, but looking to start a flamewar. What a pointless and sad thing to do. Some people might like playing with fingers Some people might like playing with a pick some people might like playing by slapping the strings with a sardine Some people might like using a combination of the above and other techniques So what? Get over it Move along nothing to see here.
3. Mistakes happen. I think I had an ordered mung years ago when they were pincotts, but they sorted it out with the minimum of hassle. I don't know what their gold parts are like 'cause I've never ordered any - I don't like my basses to look like Hyacinth Bucket's bathroom fittings. Did you contact them to give them a chance to sort it out? If not its a bit odd to post here first.
4. How would a real one get worn under the control plate?
5. I bet with my cloth-eared, cack-handed rhythm guitarist hat on, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the sound that comes out of this amp and some of my best patches on guitar rig.
6. Thinking back to my formative years I got into bass as my best mate already had a geetar, however I recall even before I bought a bass I always listened to the bass on records. On a record with good bass, how it sounds and locks in with the drums always appealed to me more than any amount of guitar widdling. I still enjoy the occasional strum on my thinline tele though.
7. Looks like someone got a bargain - these are pretty much like the current Japanese Fenders aren't they? The 98p on the price is odd - you'd often see bids a few pence over to beat a previous max bid that ends in a round pound, but not a couple of pence below
8. It would be more stealth if the LEDs were black though
9. This looks like it'll go cheap anyone near Poole fancy it? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...hlink:middle:uk If it wouldn't cost so much for the petrol I'd snipe on this at the last second
10. Yep try a fatfinger. If it seems like expensive snake oil, go to the tools aisle of your local 99p store and buy a mini cast-iron g-clamp - one of the tiny but solid ones. Put this on your headstock to emulate the effect of a fatfinger - remember to pad it with thick card or similar to protect the finish. If it eliminates the dead spot - buy a fatfinger. If not you've wasted a quid.
11.
Best value/sound is fender squire vista series musicmaster bass. They used to sell used for around £100 but recently they've been selling for more as people catch on to how good they are.
I'd agree with that. I have a squier vista musicmaster bass (but its a funky shell pink with matching headstock, so not everyone appreciates it). There's not really a lot of difference between it and my mustang, although I do prefer the mustang. Its different, but no better or worse than my '72 Fender musicmaster. I would probably sell it if the price is right.
12. i wouldn't want a bass that sounds like that. Looks like a 30" scale - in the pic with the case the bass is too big, but not much so it must be a guitar case. Looks like fun, but 'hardwood' body doesn't inspire confidence. Technically Balsa is a hardwood, but I wouldn't want a bass made of it no matter how much reverb it creates.
13.
....seem to have a lot of colouration issues and not a lot of bottom. Alex
As mentioned by Marky L, it does look very bottomy
14. There's nothing wrong with broncos that can't be fixed with a few upgrades. Some of the hardware is a bit crap, but it's a nice playable little bass. You should be able to pick up a secondhand one for next to nothing and then upgrade it with a set of Wilkinson tuners and a kent armstrong cool rails strat pickup, switchcraft jack & CTS pots etc.
15.
Cheers guys, raised the claim, the guy phoned me up and firstly tried to trick me and then intimidate me into canceling it. Then refused to refund me through paypal so I've escalated it to a claim. Hopefully I'll be sucessful. Just in case, the guy's ebay name is Sheldonamps and used to be rockrivermusic. Avoid avoid avoid.
Sounds like he's showing his true colours now. If he calls again refuse to speak to him & only communicate via paypal messages, so they can see whats being said, he has to respond via that medium anyway to put his side across.
16. Usually my jitters have gone by the time I've managed to arrive at the venue on time & loaded in. Although I do have an elaborate ritual of uncoiling cables and plugging them into various pieces of PA gear.
17. Yum! You could always Lynott it with a mirror pickguard - that WOULD look good.
18. I only use flatties on my basses & favour TI JF324s so haven't tried the Legacy Bass strings, but I can confirm that Legacy electric & acoustic guitar stings are very good for the money and when I get through the ones I have I'll probably buy some more.
19. Garageband & an old tascam US-122 on my MacBook beats my stand-alone Boss BR-1180 HDD recorder hands down for ease of use & flexibility. Since getting into Garageband I'm more likely to fire it up than Cubase Studio 4 (& I've been using Cubase since 1990 on the Atari and pro24 before that)
20. have you tried the Gallery?
21.
CIJ v MIJ?
There's only one way to find out...
22.
Are you saying that there are no benefits in learning the fretboard inside out and ear playing is sufficient for real time stuff?
No I mean that when playing a line I've practiced or when improvising I don't consciously think 'I've just played an A, the next note is a C and then there's a G' I'm sure there are benefits to knowing the fretboard inside out and if I could be bothered I'd probably make an effort to improve my own ability to point to any note on demand. Did you miss the 'wink' smiley indicating that the last line was not to be taken seriously?
23.
So my question - do you always know, even when impro'ing, every single note you play?
Nope Also I don't consciously think 'now I have to put my foot down on the clutch' when I'm driving. Knowing what you're doing is overrated
24.
What if you've got a through neck bass?
yer f'ked - that's why I like my epi thunderbird. Great post Bod - when I did all my bolt-ons to get them just how I like them I never thought of using a capo to stop the strings unwinding. My Bitzer fretless Precision has a slice of the missus's credit card in the neck pocket. She wasn't happy at the time, but it stopped her buying shoes.
