1. Some interesting discussion, I think some of the posters who aren't sure of its application should check out Jerry Bergonzi's approach to improvisations and his writings. Thanks again Basso Ridiculoso for another (free) resource! Mike
2. 3. Quite tempted by this but guess I would need it posted as I'm in Essex and the furthest north I'm going is Peterborough this weekend. How much do you want for shipping?
4. Hi - I'm also in Chelmsford and have studied with Tony. He is a fantastic teacher, very friendly and accomodating even for beginners, despite teaching to an extremely high level. He is £50 p/hr so unfortunately I can't see him as often as I would like. There aren't too many double bass teachers round here I'm afraid, a few in Colchester as far as I know. Of course, North London has plenty too. Good luck!
5. I think one big ad is fine, as is separate ones. Good luck with the sale. Look forward to seeing the Wal!
6. But on a more positive note, good job Rich Coughlan!
7. Steely Dan or Joni Mitchell for me.
8. 50th anniversary function in North London.
9.
Would love to see some videos of him playing the hell out of his Precision, I've only seen it on one American chat show, and the mix wasn't great. Si
On the subscription videos, he sometimes plays his precision, particularly if he's discussing about groove or time.
10. interested in a p/ex with a Roland TD6K digital drum kit? Or an acoustic drum kit? Am sort of interested but live in Essex and would really like to try it first! Plus I'm just away for a few days...maybe I'll follow it on eBay
11. Thanks very much - looks like a good book, I'll buy it now. Cheers again! If anyone still has what I'm after I'd be grateful too.
12. FWIW I am confident playing jazz and blues on electric bass and am more concerned with correct finger work than the actual approach to walking - not saying of course that there's not much more to learn, more that I am interested in how players are fingering certain shapes and ideas. I do a lot of transcribing but of course that doesn't help with the fingering!
13. Hi all - my work on double continues. Carrying on through Simandl up to III position and trying to play as much music (apart from scales and exercise) as I can to keep things musical. I'm fairly sure I can walk a jazz blues "correctly" (in terms of fingering that my classical teacher would approve of!) but I was wondering if anyone had a double bass fingering blues transcription. If so would much appreciate it. My teacher is £50 p/hr and money is a little tight for me right now so would appreciate the help! Cheers Mike
14. Cheers. I went to uni in Scarborough. Back down in Essex now though Will think on, just musing really. Good luck with the sale!
15. Where is it based, and what is the scale length please?
16. Where in Essex is it? Cheers.
17. Janek Gwizdala used to use a Wal.
18. Ah, very kind, but please continue with your sale! I am still dithering, shillying, and shallying! I know it's easy to fit and buy - I'll keep thinking on. Just thinking out loud really - I probably shouldn't have posted!
19. Ah, gutting, was interested in this with the J-retro but still trying to make a decision. Oh well - good luck with the sale
20. Well, this looks interesting. I'm going to have a think then maybe PM about a play. Whereabouts in W.London?
21. Cheers for the link!
22. Wristbands with bass clefs, great idea!
23.
A good gig let down by the sound I thought, which is a shame. I really like the Union Chapel but when the the volume reached a certian level last night it sounded pretty awful, as it would if you have a fairly loud amplified band playing in a church ! - not much anyone could do about it really, unless they draped off the roof beforehand or something...and I'd forgotten my earplugs too which would have made it sound nicer ! But some great playing - although I wasn't keen on Tom Kennedy's sound, but I guess it's his... :-) He's an outstanding player though. Weckl however stole the show for me, he was absolutely on fire and was a joy to watch. Anyone else go ?
I was there, and I agree with every single point you made here!
24. Do you know the scale length and the string spacing?
