  1. Has anyone heard anything yet in regards to their orders for the film? I ordeed the bundle package (DVD, CD, digital download, t-shirt, and Elixir strings). I was looking forward to watching the digital download today (The release date was supposed to be today- 27th April '18). As yet, I haven't heard anything. Any news from any other pre-order customers on here?
  2. Has anyone received any confirmation as to their order being sent out? Or any details regarding the digital download? I pre-ordered the bundle but haven't heard anything yet (release date was supposed yo be today?)
  3. Here's an old gig pic. Anyone got any idea who's playing? The guy on double neck guitar? That's Pino Palladino!!!
  4. Applying wood grain filler, here' what I do: Apply a sealer coat of nitro lacquer. This stops the wood from simply swallowing the filler. Then, apply the grain filler. The filler will then be able to provide a suitable "build" without sinking into the grain. After sanding the filler smooth, apply more sanding sealer lacquer. This will allow you to achieve a flat finish before applying the colour or top coats. Incidentally, I was with Chris McIntyre last week and he's found the most amazing grain filler I've ever experienced. Water soluble, and sands super smooth - giving a sanded residue like flour - no clogging of your sandpaper. The finish is incredible. And, it takes colour stain too if you're applying that. And, it's not expensive either - result!!! (If you want details, drop Chris an email - [email protected] )
  5. I'll be picking up the bass next week, it will be good to get it in an assembled and properly set up format. I'l be sure to post pics. Not long to go now.
  6. Everyone has their own preferences, and also their own dislikes (e.g. I personally have never been a fan of Lake Placid Blue finishes). However, I think tobacco sunburst is one of the all time greatest finishes. So much so, that I'm currently making this at home (believe it or not, I sprayed the nitrocellulose lacquer finish out of my kitchen window).
  7. I popped through to Edinburgh yesterday to see Chris McIntyre. We ended up just chatting, then grabbed a bite to eat. End results that we got nothing done on my bass! I've left the bits and pieces with him, and I'll now collect the finished instrument in the first week of April.
  8. As for "What Is Hip?", you can see from watching Allesandra, the girl in the clip above playing it, that you have to push the accent when going through the bassline. It's not just a case of playing a straight 16th notes. You have to push and pull the feel of the line to produce the accents when underlining the horn stabs for example,. You also have to "pulse" the 16th notes to get a groove going, rather than simply plodding along. Pino Palladino is a HUGE fan of Francis "Rocco" Prestia from Tower Of Power. So much so in fact, that he had Rocco sign his famous Musicman Stingray. The only person to do so. (The pic below is one Pino's wife took of the bass just a few months ago). And..... Pino's son is named after Rocco as well!!!!
  9. Yup! I was actually through in Edinburgh today with Chris. Lots of great instruments taking shape there.
  10. I alternate between these two basses most of the time. The fretless however, just feels like "home" when I'm playing it - there's something special about playing unlined fretless.
  11. I found this in a cupboard at home. No idea where I got it from. Anyone want it as a freebie? Free postage in the UK too. Just drop me a message.
  12. I'e been a customer of The Gallery from when they first opened. I've had 8 custom made Sei Basses built for me by Martin and the team since then, plus loads of bass equipment. They've always gone out of their way to get what I'm looking for. Great guys Anytime in in London, I always try to pop in to say "hello" (with a pack of Jaffa Cakes!). Congratulations on the quarter of a century milestone guys! Kevin.
  13. I'e got a few days free next week, so I'll be able to complete the build then. Pics will be posted soon!! Yippee.
  14. Available now for pre-rder via Amazon for £20 !!! (Amazon USA are quoting $49, so this UK listing is a steal!!) Check this out at Amazon.co.uk Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0062747835/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_NHALAbCB5FHA4
  15. Paul Turner was the house bassist a few seasons ago too. There's always a great selection of players involved in the setup.
  16. Tony Levin's gorgeous double stopped bassline on Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up". http://youtu.be/pIsf8EEeTFc
  17. SOLD!!!! Ive got a set of these great tuners available. Usual Hipshot quality. These tuners are in great condition, and come with a brand new (unused) set of bushings and screws. Bass Direct list them for £24 each plus £4 postage. So how about grabbing yourself a set from me at half the cost? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Hipshot,_classic_tuners.html £50 delivered in the UK. Go on, treat yourself!!
  18. Next step will be cutting the headstock shape.
  19. The 5 stringer is an AV Bass made for my friend Paul Turner. I've nabbed it from him for my low string duties. Here' Paul using the AV Bass during an interview he did for iBass Magazine: https://youtu.be/xXhhkwG6NTs
  20. I had ordered a set of LaBella 1954 "Jamerson" strings in the "through body" length. I'll decide whether to use those, or string the bass with DR Hi-Beams, once the instrument is complete. If I don't use the LaBella strings on this bass, I'll put them on my Shell Pink P-Bass.
  21. I'e now received l the hardware I need - just need to finish shaping and sanding the neck (cutting headstock and getting the tuner holes ready, and "rolling" the fingerboard edges for a played-in feel), then spray the nitrocellulose lacquer. It'l take a few weeks to properly settle, and then I can final sand and buff it.
