  1. I grabbed a body from Guitarbuild and the build has started. As per my other builds, the nitrocellulose lacquer has been sprayed at home (with me holding the body out of my kitchen window while applying the various coats!!). I applied the colour in the same way Fender did in the early days. : First step - lots of fine sanding!!! Step 2 - lightly bleach the alter body. Fender didn' do this on their ash bodies at the time as they took colour very easily. Alder naturally goes an orangey shade when you apply clear coats of lacquer- the bleaching process was to provide a lighter base colour. Step 3 - wipe on yellow stain to the bare wood body (and lightly sand again). Step 4 - clear sealer coats of lacquer Step 5 - tobacco brown burst and edges applied. Step 6 - apply clear top coats. Then, everything was left for 3 weeks to allow the lacquer to thin out and sink into the grain of the wood. Then, ideas time to finely send the surface using wet & dry paper. I started with 800 gtadevto lightly scuff the surface. Then, on to 1200 grade. I then followed up with 1500, then 2000, finishing with 2500 grade. The body was then buffed to a shine using Met auto polish (great stuff- leaves no residue on the surface). The rear ferrule holes were then cleaned, and the large diameter inserts installed. Next step will be getting a neck made and lacquered - I'll do that after the Christmas madness has passed.
  2. Inknow that this one has only been released just over a week ago, but I have to say that I think it' a great collection songs. Plus, Adam's bass playing is great on it. U2 - Songs Of Experience
  3. My favourite studio clip of Adam was the one where he was playing an all black Warwick Buzzard bass. Larry (the drummer) saw it and said, "Wow! Batman bass"!!!
  4. He' a great bass player. It takes great ears (and great confidence) to play with so much space. Plus, he has the chips to play really busily if he wants to - after all, he first started out in the jazz rock outfit Last Exit. Anyhow, here' a live clip of a wonderful performance of "Wrapped Around Your Finger" during the Police's reunion your. Absolutely gorgeous.
  5. Hot Chocolate - "Every One's A Winner". Fabulous. The gritty bass sounds fantastic.
  6. I tried out a set of these on a custom built Chris McIntyre bass last week at Chris' workshop in Edinburgh. Great sounding strings. Really full, but not dull like the LaBella black tape strings. There white / clear strings still have loads of definition.
  7. Just bought a Seymour Duncan Antiquity single coil pickup from Pablo. Excellent communication and quick postage - ideal! Thanks again mate. Kevin
  8. Sadly, yes, he has passed away. Very sad news.
  9. Gig last night on Oran Mor in Glasgow for the album launch of "33" by December. Great night. We were in around 4pm setting up and got finished soundchecking at 6:45pm, ready for doors opening at 7pm. Great venue and great crowd.
  10. My strings took a couple of weeks to arrive from the States. As for some comments regarding, are they the real thing?", I can confirm that they're genuine DR Strings. I had a couple of other sets here at home. The new cheapo ones are exactly the same - materials, packaging, etc. Mega deal!!!
  11. Good to hear that the bass family are getting deals done. Ive sold instruments on Basschat to folk in various European counties, and have sent quite a few to the USA too. I've made many great contacts in the process too. Only time ive had problems, have been with the odd UK based buyer/seller. Let us see pics of your new bass when it arrives matey!
  12. I've used DR Hi-Beams for over a decade now on all my basses. I love them. I'd tried the Dunlop Super Brights last year when loads of players were raving about them. For me, the Dunlop strings had vertblittle bass fundamental compared to the DR strings. Thanks for providing the link to the deal on the Hi-Beams. I'm now awaiting my own delivery.
  13. Yup , that's the one. He liked it, which was reassuring.
  14. Old thread resuscitation time. Here's Guy soundchecking for this year's Edinburgh Fringe festival 2 week run of his one man show. He used this white stack knob Jazz Bass for the run of gigs.
  15. I bought a treble booster guitar pedal from Chris Rea's drummer.
  16. And Guy's using my white Jazz Bass for the two week run of gigs
  17. Queuing for Guy's show starts about 15-20 mins before the gig. Well worth going to see it, and if you haven't read his book - grab a copy as it's great fun.
  18. Nice Jazz Bass he's using. I caught the show last Monday - great fun, and am planning to see it again on Sunday 27th.
