1.
The perloid blue looks very nice, can I ask where you got it from?
Thanks, The blank came from chguitars on ebay. About £20 posted.
2. For those who are not psychic, that is New pickup and scratchplate day. Both my basses are (were) PJs so I decided to mix one up a bit. A bit of routing, a new J neck pickup and general Dremelling later I have a Jazz bass in a P body ! I'm loving the blue perloid scratchplate. Oh, and it sounds rather good too.! I'm not a fan of the Jazz body shape or size so this is the perfect way to get the J sounds with a body shape that suits me. BTW, As far as I can tell, you cannot buy a P scratchplate with a J pickup hole anywhere, so it has to be DIY. 3. Now SOLD Just got this but its not really my cup of tea, I'm looking for a more vintage drive sound really. Excellent, quality build clone of Xotic's Bass BB Preamp pedal by Jeds peds. Low hiss and noise. Quality item. Controls are drive, volume, treble and bass. Needs power from the standard Boss-type 9V internal negative power supply (not supplied). Yours for £44 posted within mainland UK.
4. Yup, I've only had 1 for the last couple of years. Suddenly I seem to be back up to two again though. With me, I usually seem to get a favourite bass, and that is always the one I want to play, so there is little point building a collection.
5. Yes, sounds like you simply need to tighten the E string end of the pickup down towards the body a bit so that part of the pickup picks gets a lower signal from the E string and the volume balance is better.
6. I have used both the Behringer Ultra GI-100 (which is the same as the DI-100 but with a guitar speaker cab sim built in) and the Palmer PDI-09 for 50W guitar valve amp use between amp and cab for live work. Both worked great, although I preferred the cab sim on the Behringer (which is incidentally still working just fine about 10 years later). If you absolutely love the sound of your valve amp, then I think you are definitely on the right track, but you will still be lugging a huge amount of heavy gear around. If it were me I would also look at the other option of getting a dedicated pre-amp with EQ & cab sims etc and literally going straight to the board, and then have an active monitor for your own use. You will be giving a spectacularly good signal to FOH if you a good ear for tweaking. I recently borrowed a LIne6 HD500X for a few weeks, added the HD bass amp model pack (£30) and it really was superb for bass - played through an active monitor (also amazing on guitar). These latest generation of sub-£500 modellers are getting very, very good and pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing IMO.
7. This has been my main bass for a few years now. 2 piece swamp ash PJ body, oil & wax finished by myself. Jazz width neck is from a seller in the Netherlands, I can't remember what they were called and can't find them on the web any more. Bridge is the excellent Schaller 2000 (choose your string spacing !) pickguard, tuners, knobs etc are generic. Controls are simply vol, tone and a 2 way switch between having both pickups 50% and the P pickup only, which are the only 2 sounds I ever need. Strung with Fender 7250M 105-45 nickel roundwounds. Weight is an extremely manageable 3.4 kgs (on my bathroom scales) Edit .... forget to mention that the pickups are my secret recipe (which shall now be revealed to you !). A Tonerider jazz bridge pickup and a Wilkinson ceramic P pickup. These 2 together are awesome and ar my very favourite PJ mix (and happen to cost less than £50 together brand new). I have owned and tried a shedload of expensive PJ pickup selections and these truly are excellent - don't waste your money on boutique ones. The very sad news is that I have just fallen in love with a Tune Bass Maniac I have just bought from Dandelion and this lovely bass has just been relegated to number 2.
8. Just bought a bass from Kev. He packed it very well, and did everything he said he would. Bass was exactly as described. Great person to deal with. THanks !!
9. Bought a pedal from Jim. Great communication, good packing and everything exactly as described. Thanks very much !
10.
Nice avatar hamfist. Your fish?
Yes, my fish, a big old severum called Jeeves.
11. Yup, it'll be pot luck. As BassApprentice says there shouldn't be filler but you might find a very dull multi-piece lump of alder (the specs say "solid alder body") underneath. If it was horrid, you could possibly stain darker before finishing, that should hide poor grain better. It will always be a chance you are taking though. Its a pity its not a Fender sized neck as you could have bought a lovely new body for not too much. Also, if you are going to strip the body by hand, do not underestimate the sheer amount of blood and guts it will take to get the current finish off - I have done it once, and will not be repeating the experience.
12. Yet another excellent deal with Mike, me buying a bass body from him this time. He delivered it personally. A top bloke !
13.
Is it 4 or 8 ohms, please?
See title - 4 ohms

15. I originally bought these from ebay, so have no accurate idea of their history. They sound great. Full of midrange punch. Typical model P and model J sounds.
16. Vintage Dimarzio PJ set. Believed from the 80's, maybe 90's. Original roadworn pickup covers and brass backing plates. Work perfectly. Sound great ! £50 including postage to a mainland UK address. 17. Just sold an amp to Paul. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with him. Thanks mate !
18.
can you connect this to a single 4ohm cab?
As Nik states, it is designed for any load down to 4 ohms, at which it will gives it's maximum power. I have been using it for some time with my 4 ohm Genx NX2 cab. Loud and awesome !
19. Just sold a cab to Nik. What a great guy. Came exactly when he said he would etc etc. Lovely bloke to deal with. Thanks mate !

21. now SOLD Purely for sale as I have just retired from gigging. This is the best amp I have ever owned, period. Everything on it works just perfectly. The moment I bought this one my amp search ended. - solid state and valve preamps (mixable) - 12 ban graphic EQ - dual band compressor (very, very useable) - Effects loop - XLR out - 280 Watts out into 4 ohm load and about 180 W into an 8 ohm load. - tuner out - In hardly used short Gator rack case. - Weighs 12.5 kg in the case on my bathroom scales. An easy one hand lift. Make no mistake, this amp easily has the clout of any 500W micro amp. Superb tonal adjustment available. Valve preamp really adds "thickness" (not overdrive). £235 couriered to you in mainland UK. No offers. No trades. I'll just keep it if no-one wants it for this price. Bargain - a "proper" amp, built to last forever and a bit of Trace history. 22.
I'd go with ergonomics, personally. I do like that stealthy scratchplate
THat's what I've ultimately decided to do. Good call.
