1. SOLD Less than a year old. Pretty much immaculate. Perfect. No faults. Very low background noise. Classic GK amp. Very versatile. Huge sheer grunt. Hugely reliable and well-respected amp. Only for sale due to new Orange valve goodness in my life. Amp on it's own - £399 posted in mainland UK. Amp in virtually new Spider, shallow lightweight 4U rack case - £435 posted
 2.
Sorry to hijack, any idea if the STK-J2B would work well with a Fender Original P-Bass pickup?
Yes, the Fender orig P bass pickup is relatively low output so should match up OK with the STK-J2B
 3.
the problem I'm having with my JP was the SPB3 and the STK-J2B. I think the SPB3 might be a bit hot for me so I'm going to look at swapping it with something else. Cheers!
Yup, your analysis is good. THe SPB-3 is way too hot to balance with the STK-J2B. tHe SPB-1 is, however, a pretty decent match if you want to stick with DUncans.
 4. Personally, I think the full East systems boost the Bass too much, even at minimum. You may like that, but I don't. But the East parametric mids module is the best and most musical EQ adjustment out there IMO. And it is possible to squeeze in a parametric mids module in the circuit between your Jazz's tone pot and the output jack. This is my favourite layout at the moment. It requires moving one pot "up" the bass to under the pickguard. Once that is done you can fit the Eat mids module plus battery in a std J control cavity.
 5.
I'm a big fan of the right amount of fret clank and buzz when you dig in
Yes, yes ! For any rock or rock-influenced style it is the tone and setup to aim for IMO
 6.
Can anyone recommend a good set of black tuners & where to get them from , the Wilkinson ones on my Status jazz neck aren't that great . I'd prefer the traditional look .
Agreed. The Wilkinson ones do the job and stay in tune but don't have much of a feel of quality about them.
 7. Just looked at your signature. Your cab (OBC115) is, I think, pretty lacking in top end (I've not played one, but I understand that it is a single 15" speaker, no tweeter). You can put whatever higher frequencies into it that you like and it will not be able to reproduce them. The VT bass is certainly capable of broken glass levels of high end.
 8. You can add your own 3 way switch or blend pot before the input to the P-retro. It will work fine then, and you'll get your pickup blend too.
 9. DOne a lot of body and neck swapping in my time and yes, my experience has been that neck swapping has generally created greater tonal differences than body swapping. As a generalisation, I agree that maple boards are certainly brighter and more spanky than rosewood ones, but I have frequently noticed a huge difference in tone between apparently identical necks. Another point to mention is that one needs to ensure a good flat neck/body surface to get the best out of any neck. Wood is a natural product and as such even two pieces of apparently identical maple will have different structures and grain patterns. I believe this creates different hardness , resonance and stability at times. So it is logical to think that neck changing may well produce a significant tonal change.
 10. SOLD A couple of months old, absolutely as new, apart from the Velcro on the bottom, which can be removed. The best pedal compressor I have ever used. Extremely musical. It's just that I've realised I don't actually need compression with my new amp (AD200B) as the valves compress just right for me. I used to have the MXR compressor and the Empress is in a different league altogether for clarity and transparency. it was instantly hearable when I compared the two. Ovnilab review .... http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/empress.shtml £149 posted to you in mainland UK. Comes with original box etc. I am happy to cover the remainder of the one year warranty (I have the receipt dated 6/10/14), so long as you cover any subsequent postage costs that may be incurred. 11.
I usually drill a pilot hole to about the same depth as the screw it'll receive - it's the thread doing the job of holding it in securely not the shank. I'd also put some tape around the drill bit to act as a depth stop.
This
 12.
. Their issues were that a split one has phase issues with the P pickup. You come across anything like that?
No I've not had any issues like that. Personally, I now veer away from hum-cancelling J pickups. I feel too restricted and for me, the hum I do get is not at a level that I really even notice in use. My personal budget favourite pairing is the Wilkinson Ceramic P bass pickup (their cheaper one) and a Tonerider J bridge pickup. An awesome and super-toneful pairing, all totalling about £50. That is the pairing I put in every PJ bass now. If you want named brands then Molan's suggestion of a manufacturers matched pair is good. But, then again, they are mostly not hum-cancelling. I love SD's SPB-1 but I think SD don't offer a ideal J pickup to match with it, certainly not a hum-cancelling one. In contrast, Dimarzio's Ultrajazz J pickup is cracking but all their P pickups are too high output to match it well IMO. There are a lot of pairings I would like to try at some point (if I ever have the money to spare). There are many great testimonies about EMG's Geezer Butler PJ pair. The Aguilar Pj pair also, and on and on.
 13. The SPB-1 is by far the best SD P pickup for a PJ configuration IMO (compared to the 2 and 3). It is a great pickup in it's own right but importantly, it has a significantly lower output and will match so much better with a J pickup. Unfortunately SD's stacked J pickups are not as high output as some other hum-cancelling J design, and are IMO rather lacklustre compared to others tonally. IMO, Dimarzio's Ultrajazz bridge pickup is THE pickup to beat for a bridge pickup in a PJ. Great tone and, importantly, high output. Sometimes the figures are misleading. Hum-cancelling designs can be either side by side (i.e. a coil for the E and A strings and a coil for the D and G strings) or one on top of the other (I believe SD ones are like this. Form my experience the side-by-side designs give a much better output compared to the stats than the other design. This is not just something I have noticed myself, but have read others observing too. So when choosing a PJ config, I would always go with a more "vintage" output P pickup and a side-by-side higher output J pickup. As has been said earlier the pickup heights will make a huge difference in balancing the volumes and generally you will need the P pickup a fraction lower in a PJ config than you might on a P pickup solo bass (if you want to balance the pickup volumes that is). And don't be sucked in by the teenagers who all seem to think that a higher output pickup is somehow "better" than a lower output one. What a load of old tosh. Lower output from pickup = a slight tweak on your amp's gain knob, that is all. IMO, for whatever style you play you will generally get a more balanced (frequency-wise) tone with a slightly lower output pickup. Mr Fender did know what he was doing back then.
 14. Absolutely awesome job Andy. I will have to start a "magnificent unique green Westones" thread for Bryan and myself to post in.
 15. Just one more point - If you are going for a 4 string and like slim necks, the TRBX is the one to go for (38mm nut compared to 40mm for both the BB414/424 and TRB4)
 16. price drop bump. This is becoming a bit of a bargain.
 17. Tonally, I felt the TRBX504 I used to own had more in common with the BB than the TRB. The TRBX does a great neck pickup rock tone for example, very very similar to a P bass. The TRB4 I used to have could not even get close. However, for split pickup tones I felt the TRBX was a tiny bit lacking compared to both TRB and BB. Not bad, but just not quite as punchy and "piano-like". For bridge pickup tones, The TRBX does a great funk one, like the TRB. Both are better than the simple J pickup on the BB bridge position. All are great basses IMO, but I enjoyed the tones from both TRBX and BB, where as the TRB left me a bit cold.
 18.
I got his reference ' when he says "you are the mr kipling of basses" .... he's saying you make an exceedingly good bass ... Mr kiping 's advertising slogan being .... he makes exceedlingly good cakes.
Of course. I am f#cking thick sometimes.
 19.
Hamfist, you are the Mr Kipling of bass
I have no idea what you mean Beedster, but I'm going to take it as a huge compliment ! Anyway, sorry to all who missed out. now SOLD subject to final payment. THink I could have put this up for a bit more. It was a difficult one to judge the price of.
 20.
sh*t the bed and call me Julie!!!
It's a kind offer, but not this time perhaps.
 21.
trade for a standard S1 fender precision ?
temping, but I need the cash. Sorry.
 22.
Is the body off a j&d jazz?
Yup, They are great bodies. I have another one too. Just as good as any MIM Fender IMO.
 23. SOLD For sale, my recently put together stunning surf green Status graphite necked Jazz. Every component on this bass is less than 6 months old. OK, the details .... - Alder body, lovely surf green paintwork - Status graphite Jazz neck, std Fender dimensions. - Seymour Duncan pickups, SPB-1 and STK-J2B, a great PJ pairing IMO. - P rout is in the std precision placement (NOT the usual compromise Jazz PJ neck pickup placement which is nearer the neck than on a Fender P). - Custom 3 ply black pickguard. NO screws ! Held on with double sided tape. Looks great. very stable. - Black bridge - black control plate. - Set up beautifully. LOW action. Superb playability. A fantastic sounding bass. - Black Wilkinson tuners - standard VVT controls. 250K pots Under the pickguard is an extra rout allowing for a 4th control should you ever want one. Just drill another hole in the pickguard. Not too much to say else about it. A couple of minor scratches here and there but basically in superb condition. I will add that the neck was briefly fitted to a non-Fender body and hence has 4 extra holes in the heel, but these are away from the "Fender" position holes and do not affect anything. Any question, please feel free to ask. Sorry no trades on this one, I'm trying to make back some money on my gear currently. Price is £429 posted to you in mainland UK. I'm happy to ship abroad but please contact me for costs. Right, pics (better pics now as it's stopped raining here) ....
