1. I'd say it's a little overpriced but looks like a genuine, decent 70's/80's Ibanez-made Cimar P bass. Lots high quality components. What's the sting ?
2.
Yep, the 'great guy' was referring to his skills. Steve Johnson in Hillsea is good too as mentioned in a previous post. Both are personal friends and trusted craftsmen.
Cool, that's good to know. THanks Chris.
3.
Www.tonefinder.net Rich is a great guy.
He may be a great guy but is he any good ? Have you had any work done by him ? I had spotted him online and thought of trying him for some things I felt were beyond my skills. His prices are very good.
4.
no you're not. Doesn't matter how old you are. If you could pull it off when you were 25 you can do it at 60. It's a state of mind. Go for it!!!
Hmmmm. Looks like I'm going to need to wriggle a little bit more to get out of this ....... well, OK, I don't wear my bass low enough for a thunderbird ! There you go, can't beat that. Thunderbirds HAVE to be slung low.
5. I think those white ones look magnificent ! Unfortunately, I think I'm just starting to get too old to pull off he look on stage with a thunderbird myself.
6. Just sold a bass to Sammy. Great guy and very easy to deal with. He also communicated very well throughout the whole process. A thoroughly decent chap !
7. The thing is ... I know why it hasn't sold. It needs a Lindert headstock ....
8. I thought we had a free market here in the "enlightened" west, where people could set there own price and conditions on a sale. The market will then decide if it sells or not. If someone wants it at that price and under those conditions then it will sell. If not, it won't. Aren't these actually important principles of how our society and economy work ? Didn't our forefathers actually fight wars to protect these sorts of rights and freedoms ? Personally, I think he's making it more difficult for people to buy his bass, but it's his right and he's not insulting or hurting anyone.
9. Beautiful. I had one of those for a few days. Best precision tone ever. Unfortunately it needed significant fret work so, as it was new, I returned it. Nut was a bit wide for me too, although for a P it's relatively narrow and slim. I still remember that bass fondly. Those tuners look the dog's b******'s too. Nice
10.
Would this work with some active MECs from a Rockbass?
No. Preamps for active pickups require completely different potentiometer values than those for passive pickups. This preamp is designed for passive pickups.
11.
Still got this? Send me a PM if you do ...
and replied.
12. The Status Energy I had wasn't bright and clanky at all, whereas the S2 I had was. From what I have read, and also in my experience, STatus (and graphite necks in general) don't all have clanky bright tone. It's just that graphite necks were popular on basses which were built in that Mark King era where a bright clanky tone was being aimed for, so they rather unfortunately got a reputation for that. The attack and sustain on a graphite neck "should" on average be better than a wood neck, but whether it's perceivable to the human ear is debatable to some. In my experience the fret material has more effect on "bright clankiness".
13. From memory, early statuses didn't have truss rods, later ones did. I'm not sure of the time of change though. However, IMO raising the bridge saddles is generally a better way of raising the action, which any Status will obviously be able to do. Once a neck is set with a decent and appropriate relief, the height of the action is then set with the bridge saddles. Thats the basic principle that I use for setting actions.
14. SOLD This ranks among one of the very basses I have ever played. The solid maple body and 3-piece laminated wenge neck give it such a rigidity and resonance it's just very punchy. For sale purely as I'm just not getting on with it ergonomically. I've tried and tried. Many will remember that I listed this bass for sale a few weeks ago and then backed out shortly after as I was very reticent about selling it, and I wanted to give it more time to see if I could get my body accustomed to it. I have tried my best but it's still a struggle being comfortable on it for some reason, even though I am aware that many players find the Fortress the most ergonomic bass Warwick make. I've just got a Streamer and my right hand is instantly "at home" so, for me, that is the proof I need that this Fortress is just not going to work out for me. Someone with a different bodyshape and "style" will find it a cracker. So, I promise I will not chicken out this time ! Anyway, it's a .... - 1998 German-made Warwick Fortress One - 2 piece maple body - 3 piece laminated Wenge neck - Wizard traditional PJ pickups. Excellent pickup balance with this set. - Standard MEC 2 band active preamp plus an East parametric mids module - inset Dunlop straplocks (will come with the strap connections too) - custom rosewood thumbrest - 38mm nut width I refinished the bass myself. It was originally in a transparent green stain finish from Warwick. THe stain went fairly deep at the grain end of the wood, so there is still some slight hint of green-ness around the pickup routs and at the end grain ends of the bass. Personally I think this gives it character. It certainly is a stunning overall finish IMO. Danish oil and wax. Smooth as a babies bottom. No dings or scratches on this body. The headstock has a couple of minor scratches on the back, but Wenge is very, very hard and it stands up very well to the rigours of time. The neck has a small stain to the Wenge in one spot but no dents or scratches. The weight is a fraction under 9lbs. The Just-a-nut (as in virtually all Warwicks of this vintage) has one of the side tangs of the nut broken off. This has absolutely no effect on the function of the nut whatsoever. All the tangs do is to hold the nut in place when all the strings are removed. Price is $440 collected from Southampton, or £455 including courier within mainland UK, 0r £485 couriered to also include a hardcase. Sale wanted really, although bass trades always politely considered. Any basses offered will have to be nut width 40mm or less, and no Jazzes please. 15.
Cheers davedave, their site looks decent, and I like that you can pick a pre-made one and see exactly what you're getting, there's some nice grains going on there.
I agree. Somehow I'd not known about them before. I would definitely consider them in the future.
16. I got a 2 piece Ash body from TMG in Germany (on ebay). It was cheap (about £90-£100) and decent. The wood was excellent, with lovely grain. However, the negatives were ....... no bridge earthing hole drilled (had to get a long drill bit). The neck slot was actually routed about 1cm too short to get the scale length and pickup position just right, so I lengthened it by 1cm with my magical Dremel. After that it was awesome, but did require quite a bit of fiddling to get it in that state.
17. Just sold a bass to Andy. His communication was excellent. He came round to my house exactly when he said he would. great bloke to deal with. Thanks very much !
18. Nice one ! Fortress love here also. I'd really like to have a go on one of those new rockbass ones. It certainly sounds great in Andy Irvine's hands.
19. Ah, I missed the lyrics quote. I'm probably just getting old.
20. Nice job Andy. I really appreciate you running through your method so methodically for us.
21. Very cool ! But don't we have "holidays" here in the UK ?
22. Best girlfriend ever ? Quite possibly. Will need photos to confirm though.
