SOLD

This ranks among one of the very basses I have ever played. The solid maple body and 3-piece laminated wenge neck give it such a rigidity and resonance it's just very punchy. For sale purely as I'm just not getting on with it ergonomically. I've tried and tried. Many will remember that I listed this bass for sale a few weeks ago and then backed out shortly after as I was very reticent about selling it, and I wanted to give it more time to see if I could get my body accustomed to it. I have tried my best but it's still a struggle being comfortable on it for some reason, even though I am aware that many players find the Fortress the most ergonomic bass Warwick make.
I've just got a Streamer and my right hand is instantly "at home" so, for me, that is the proof I need that this Fortress is just not going to work out for me. Someone with a different bodyshape and "style" will find it a cracker. So, I promise I will not chicken out this time !

Anyway, it's a ....

- 1998 German-made Warwick Fortress One
- 2 piece maple body
- 3 piece laminated Wenge neck
- Wizard traditional PJ pickups. Excellent pickup balance with this set.
- Standard MEC 2 band active preamp plus an East parametric mids module
- inset Dunlop straplocks (will come with the strap connections too)
- custom rosewood thumbrest
- 38mm nut width

I refinished the bass myself. It was originally in a transparent green stain finish from Warwick. THe stain went fairly deep at the grain end of the wood, so there is still some slight hint of green-ness around the pickup routs and at the end grain ends of the bass. Personally I think this gives it character. It certainly is a stunning overall finish IMO. Danish oil and wax. Smooth as a babies bottom. No dings or scratches on this body.
The headstock has a couple of minor scratches on the back, but Wenge is very, very hard and it stands up very well to the rigours of time. The neck has a small stain to the Wenge in one spot but no dents or scratches.
The weight is a fraction under 9lbs.

The Just-a-nut (as in virtually all Warwicks of this vintage) has one of the side tangs of the nut broken off. This has absolutely no effect on the function of the nut whatsoever. All the tangs do is to hold the nut in place when all the strings are removed.

Price is $440 collected from Southampton, or £455 including courier within mainland UK, 0r £485 couriered to also include a hardcase. Sale wanted really, although bass trades always politely considered. Any basses offered will have to be nut width 40mm or less, and no Jazzes please.
