1. ?? but that's just an empty post! <looks confused>
2. Dunno - maybe I should abandon the idea of a stingray given how controversial they are - maybe a Vigier instead...!
3. Interesting stuff - i suffer from 'hooked' nails too if they get longer than a few mill... the problem is particularly bad on my thumb, but also 'a'. I find that even though my nails are shorter than many guitarists, they still make the bass strings sound more metallic and less 'thumpy'. I might try coated strings to help with this. It's good to hear that someone else makes it 'work' though - encouraging. Thanks
4.
Why? Are you having problems sleeping?
Well, no, but people talk about them a lot and I'm easily led...
5. I'm not sure I've ever heard any Coldplay - I'll have to go and have a listen now...
6. Learning a new funk groove.. Although I seem to be getting all of the notes, necessarily in the right order (and right rhythm) it *still* doesn't sound like the demo CD i've got... not the same tone or, well, funkiness... so what's a man to do? Keep practicing I suppose...
7. I don't get it.. what *is* it about Bongos that makes them so controversial? <looks confused>
8.
Here's another one, with which you should seek immediate psychiatric help, if you like it in any way...
I have to say, regardless of the challenging aesthetics, if someone can play this beast well, all power to their elbow and can get away with however it looks!
9. Surely this was all about how much they 'liked' the individual (which is an important thing) - it's highly personal. Not a comment on your playing in any way. Some you win, some you lose, on to the next Mind you - with such a fab bass, i'm surprised they didn't give you the job on the spot without bothering to hear you play!
10. I used to stand to the right of the flautist - her flute and my headstock were always 'entwining' - despite this she never wanted to change sides... *sigh*
11. I like the stingray tone - i've heard it a few times and it always seem, well... 'bass-ey' ... (jeesh, how do you describe sound?) Really clean, 'whump' sound...
12.
Well, that's that nailed
Yup - i'm all for concise...
13.
no, it's all about making money.
Of course - same for every bass maker, but it doesn't really help me and my confusion
14. I've always had a soft spot for stingrays, but now i've taken the step to check out their website I find they have lots of different models... So can someone tell me what the difference is between a 'classic stingray', a 'stingray', a 'sterling' and a 'bongo'? Is it all about pickups, construction, or something else? <confused>
15. B3 doesn't work with Macs so 'nah' not very useful...
16. Have you thought about one of these? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Genz_Benz_Shuttle_3.0_10T_Combo.html I have one in addition to my Streamliner 900 + Bergantino 12x1's and it's ideal for acoustic gigs - small, light, but sounds very, very, good.
17. '58's for voice and 57's for instruments' was what I was always told. Having said that, my 57 seems to be fine for voice...
18. GuitarPro 6... not sure how much though as it's a while since I bought it - very easy to use, different bass sounds, can be used for other instruments and drums too. Very capable and really recommended.
19.
I know. I was forced to learn piano as a child. I was crap.
*laughs* - just as well or you may never have found the wonders of the bass
20.
I did a similar test a while ago for treble clef. My daughter (who was probably 11 at the time) totally wiped the floor with me. I've been reading treble clef since I was 10 and achieved grade 8 on violin so you could say I know my way around it. I guess I'll just never be that quick .
I think the more you play music from scores the less you 'name' notes in your head as you read them - instead you remember how to play a note on the instrument from where the dot is on the score with little processing in between to think about what the name of the note is. When you see a 'D' you play a 'D' but you don't think 'oh, that's a D'... Sure, given a second or two you can name it, but because you don't often have to do that, you just don't do it as quickly as someone learning the names of notes.
21. master - but then I've been reading treble clef all day and the switch is doing my head in! honestly, bit respect to pianists to be able to read both simultaneously, it takes me ages to 're-adjust'!
22. David Scholefield - Cheltenham(ish)
23.
Might be worth making a map of where people interested in the folly are, so that people can work out who is near? (As well as a map of where it goes?) Just like a google map with a bc usern ame and a city?/town/etc
Based near cheltenham, but also likely to be gigging in York... (just so ya know)
24. Brilliant - deffo up for this idea
