1.
(That might all have been blindingly obvious, sorry.)
no - that's a very cool post. I'm not sure about the 'if it feels tight you're a drummer, if it doesn't then you're a drummer but just need to relax'. Something tells me that some people are drummers naturally and some are not.
 2.
Like anything, some parts of playing drums is very easy, some of it hard. ie, walking up stairs is easy. Walking up stairs trying not to wake the house after 10 pints is hard...
depends on how much practice you get surely?
 3. OK, so it's a really badly phrased question, but does anyone on here play drums as well as bass, and do you think it's 'easy' to learn to play a simple/straight-forward groove on the drums in a band, and is it 'easier' than learning and playing a bass line in a band? I had a heated conversation with a muso friend who claimed that some instruments are very much inherently easier to learn and play than others, and drums were particularly easy. I'm learning to play drums at the moment, and I'm not so sure...
 4. Ouch... can't do the bass much good to be treated like that though? Have pity on the poor little instrument!
 5. Will it be his rocky stuff or some of his more recent 'folky' stuff? I've covered some of the later stuff ('Kill to Get Crimson' album tracks) and there are some really solid bass lines to those. His work has definitely changed, and stayed just as high quality, since the DS days. Great stuff
 6.
All right, stop it now, please! Everyone back on topic or I'll call the [s]penis[/s] police.
Killjoy!
 7.
I remember going to see Simple Minds in concert in about 1982 . It was great , and you could tell they were on the verge of big success . My friends at school who all liked Led Zeppelin , Lynyrd Skynyrd and Pink Floyd said that going to a Simple Minds gig was definite proof that I was gay . ( They were so wrong . )
At school I loved Zep, Lynyrd Skynrd and Pink Floyd (still do!) and couldn't stand Simple Minds and my friends never called me gay. ( They were so wrong . )
 8. Hilarious - I'd have been less polite in my language, but point well made
 9.

see! not a wrinkle in sight! who could be unhappy about *that* look?
 10.
That's right - I reckon my youthful unlined face is due to me putting a bit of weight on every year - smooths out the wrinkles! If I suddenly lost five stone I'd probably just shrivel up into a pile of dust like Dracula at daybreak!
You could just purse your lips tightly and blow out your cheeks like a trumpeter couldn't you? Same effect/look?
 11.
Sounds like I'm back on a diet then What's the betting I'll lose the weight and they'll say it's made me look old and haggard !
and none of your suits will fit properly any more!
 12. I'm in my mid 40's and I'm not sure I *ever* had any mojo, so no worries about losing it Maybe I'll find some mojo in my 70's - if I'm lucky!
 13. Smile and play the bass well - if they can't appreciate that, find a proper band?
 14.
Here's how i do it, it's a very easy and direct way and no need to attach files to the posts. This works for all kind of photos hosted on the web but you need to be using Internet Explorer, on Chrome i still don't know how to do it and haven't yet tried on Firefox. If the photos are taken by me i put them all on Picasa but sometimes i use photos i've posted on Facebook. When i have the pic open in my browser either from picasa, facebook or any other website i click with the right button on it and then choose "Properties". this will open a info window where you can find the pics "URL Address". simply select and copy that address and use the Image insert button on the forum to embed that image on your post. I found this after doing a bit of research trying to find a way to post picasa images on forums so that i could stop using imageshack and photobucket. Hope this helps, if i haven't explained very well please ask and i'll try to complete my reply. cheers
OK, here's my facebook URL test:
 15. I genuinely believe that this is all part of being creative. it's maybe not much consolation, but that part of us that makes us excited and want to make music, is the part of us that sometimes needs us to close down and become quiet and withdrawn and not want to create. It may come back tomorrow, or maybe in months or years, but I bet your drive to make music will be back at sometime. In the meantime try to enjoy other aspects of life.
 16.
Go for it young man, forget the theory, use the force and have a good time.
It's been a long time since someone called me a 'young' man - but I understand the message and will go with the flow
 17. I have two, but because i've just ventured into the world of 5 stringers, I have a feeling that my 4 string warwick thumb will be played less and less. I may mount it on the wall as a work of art
 18. Be very, very, careful about bass direct. I went in the other day for a 'look around' and came out with a Vigier 5 stringer... Mark must have some subliminal auto-suggestion track running in the background: 'ooh... look at this bass, it's beautiful, buy it now... oh, no, wait, look at *that* bass over there, buy that one instead... oh, no, wait, look at... ' and so on
 19. I'm slightly overwhelmed with options now thanks again to all these suggestions, i'll make a list - it makes me feel as though I'm in control!
 20.
This version of Wonderwall fits the brief.
Just wanted to thank you for posting this - it's kept me, and my friends, happy all day!
 21. Wow - that's about two weeks of non-stop listening already... thanks for all the suggestions. I'll definitely report back. There seems to be a really strong culture surrounding the blues, with lots of musicians suggesting that it's a foundational genre i.e. for any kind of modern music making (i.e. not part of the classical world) not understanding or knowing about the blues will make you less of a musician in some way. I don't know about this, but it feels like i'm discovering something really important about music, even if it's late on
 22. I have a list of 6-8 possible tracks as a starter - 3 of them are Stevie Ray Vaughan, there's some Jimi Hendrix (interesting huh?) and some 'classics' like Crossroads Blues...
 23.
Don't bother to learn scales it's pointless in blues it's not jazz......no extended bass solos. Listen to this This is the Muddy Water's Band from the album 'Hard Again'. It's fantastic album but the best bit thing about it is it shows how a blues drummer and bassist give a lazy Chicago Blues feel to a song by playing behind the beat. Notice how late the drummer (Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith) plays the snare - it's just on the far end of the beat and no more. The rest of the album is also fantastic and shows what a great Chicago blues band (and rhythm section) should sound like. If the drummer you play with is not up to 'Big Eyes' standard, you can still play just behind the drummers beat, to give any song you play an authentic bluesy feel. There's lots of other, more up to date, stuff out there but listening and playing along to Muddy Water's Hard Again is one of the best blues educations you can get.
Great - very 'lazy' (but in a good way)... i wonder how you'd stop pulling yourself back on the beat though
