I'd start off with a Boss ODB-3, especially as you can pick en up dirt cheap used. I saw Acid King play last year and the bassist used one through a cranked SVT and it sounded immense. In fact I might just hold onto mine, perhaps have a go at modding it... Also the Bass Big Muff and new MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe.

I've ordered one of these now too with the proceeds of my pedal sale. I had loads of effects I wasn't really using, this will give me loads more to play with instead! G&L SB-1 / SB-2: Yamaha Attitude:

I've tried the D'Addarios, GHS Brite Flats and Status Half Rounds. I wasn't a huge fan of the D'Addarios as they were still a bit rough; the GHS were good but the G & D felt rougher than the E & A and they were hard to get hold of. Then I tried the Status - inexpensive and best of the bunch IMO, I have them on my fretless.

On a budget I would check out an EHX QTron, DOD FX25 and Tonefactor 442 Bass / Boomstick Bottom Feeder. The Source Audio pedal is also a bit of a swiss army knife filter!

The Moog one should do the trick.

I for one think that the Lomenzo sounded awful. Adding a bandpassed distorted midrange in with your clean signal sounds artificial and you end up with low end loss since you have to have to turn the clean level down to keep the same volume. I say VT Bass if you want the sound of an overdriven amp, or a B3K if money is no object, or Behringer BDI21 if pennies are in short supply.

I like them, used one in a practice room a few times, easily keeping up with a loud drummer with room to spare. The overdrive circuit on it sounds goods too.

Spotted this over at TB. A new UK pedal builder had created and is selling a compressor based on the highly regarded 1176 and it looks pretty good! Although it might be worth waiting for Bongo's review first unless you happen to be near Oxford you can pop in and try one out. I don't think the builder is a member on here (yet). Q: which parts are graphite??cheers.. A: Graphite is the colour of the bass, sorry for any confusion.

You could look at a Dingwall with fanned frets - some of them have a 37" B string (shorter for the other strings).
