1. I used uv strings for 1 gig, they look great and sound fine, but the coating is slightly sticky or tacky, so they hurt by fingers. I took them off after that.
2. I don't have anything aganst lighter basses, but my TRB is my only light bass, and it plays lovely, but I don't really love the sound. I guess I just like Fender-y basses, and have learned to put up with the weight, I had a lighter Japanese Precision and it was't nearly as nice as my 72, but I guess it's an unfair comparison.
3. I see alot of people here have an issue with heavy basses, all my favourite basses are really heavy. I always assumed that part of the nice tone of my Precision, G&L and Stingray came from the weight. I realise all of these are Leo basses, but from what I've heard of Warwicks they can be pretty hefty too. Am I totally wrong assuming the heavy wood is part of the character of the bass? I have a very thick strap, and I wear my bass slightly above my waist, so I have no problem with the weight, apart from when carrying the bass(es). Sorry if I'm opening up an old can of worms.
4. Just found out these guys are coming to Edinburgh next month. Love it Which lead me to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xgmSfiy_tY
5. After a couple of years wearing a mask I don't really need to see the neck anymore, I'm just used to it.
6. Mine is rosewood, a little jealous of yours, it looks great.
7. That's lovely.
8. I think he wants them because of our flamboyant on stage look, they might suit this band, but I also play in other bands, and I don't like them generally so I'll skip it. This is how I dress on stage, probably not to most peoples taste either.
9. Yea, he has blue LEDs in his, he wants to put orange in mine. In the front of the fingerboard, not the side, so to be honest, I was never going to get it done, I just wanted to see what other BCers thought.
10. So most people agree then. I guess I'll steer clear.
11. I don't see the point in LEDs on the fingerboard, I could understand them on the top fret markers. The guitar player in my band wants to put them in my bass (free) but I don't think I want them, do you think I should get them or just say no?
12. Hahahaha, that's amazing.
13.
An SR5 is definitely going to be my next project, with or without Graphite.
The first bit is on the way
14. PMs replied to.
15. yea, it's the original MMSR5 one, PM me if you want it.
16. I have not used this bass in ages, but had it at rehearsal last night, it's a great bass in good condition, but I'm not using it at all. I need to sell it now, so what's it worth?
17. I went to see it again today, still getting clear coats, but the finish should be finished this week. I've settled on the switching combinations finally, it will be 2 nordstrand pups, with John East pre, a 3 way pup selector, and a single coil/humbucker switch for each pup. Chris is going to remove a small dent in the neck using a soldering iron, apparently?! It's a small dent at the bottom of the fingerboard at the dusty end, and I've never noticed it it while playing, but if it can be fixed it may as well be. I'm going to stick with the black scratch plate for now, but may go for a sabre/jazz style control plate and scratchplate combination in the future, or maybe just a different colour scratchplate. I'll leave it as is for now and decide about that later. In the mean time, I have the original pickup, scratchplate (with hole for coil tap switch) and preamp to sell, anyone have any idea what they're worth? I would keep them, but there's no going back now.
18. Mine arrived today, I'm off to rehearsal now so I'll report back later.
19. I had one of these for a few years, it's a great amp. Really handy to transport too.
20.
Also, could you bullet point the differences between the Thumpinator, and the Micro-thumpinator? [Keen to get one you see haha!]
The Thumpinator has a balanced input and output, the Micro thumpinator does not.
21.
Why is there only one Monopolies Commission?
Ha Ha
22. I think it can be used with 4 strings, but the frequency cut off is low enough for lowB, so lower than a 4 string can go, but should still cut off lots of the sub-bass inaudible stuff though. I think!
23. My Dad had 3 kids when he was still quite young, and he didn't have alot of disposable income, so he used to copy all his music, he still has a huge collection of blank casettes with albums on them. So the internet is just a more practical way for him to get his hands on music, though he has been buying a lot of CDs since I moved out and stopped draining him of all his money.
24.
Fopp is awful now. They're more interested in shifting sh*tty dvds at £2 a pop than being an actual record store.
I agree, it is terrible. It's owned by HMV, and they use it to shift old stock for pennies, and mostly dvds. I still get a kick out of browsing and shopping in the Oxfam record shop in Stockbridge (Edinburgh). I spent £30 there last week and bought 7 records, but they were all classics, nothing new to find on vinyl now.
25. I was in the Oxfam record shop today and picked up the Chris De Burgh album Spanish Train and Other Stories on vinyl, I always loved the title song as a kid, and I still do now. The album has dated a bit, but there's a lot still to like, the bass is great throughout. My girlfriend is still laughing at me for owning a Chris De Burgh album though. I imagine there could be a bit of p1$$ taking here too, but you should listen to it first.
