1. I think the turning point or magic moment for me was the first 4 bars of Know Your Enemy by RATM, I was 15 when I first heard it and I'd just started playing bass, and that accelerated everything. Tim Comerford is still my favourite player, but it's actualy the guitar part in the intro I think is the magic moment.
2. When I left Ireland I had to stop playing in my old band Fred, they replaced me with someone totally different. They could have gotten a player similar to me, but they took on a guitarist who was is a great musician and more importantly had a personality to fit the band. It totally changed their sound, they could have gotten a "better" bass players, but sometimes it's more important to have the right person. Fred are still going in Ireland, and beyond and they are awesome. I think the same would happen if I left my current band, I don't think I would be directly replacable, but they could adapt and use somebody elses strengths to work for the songs in a different way.
3. I used to be house-engineer in a pub in Cork, I had a welsh band in and the singer-guitarist blew a fuse when his lips touched the mic. He was lucky that nothing happened to him. The band started going on about it being a dodgy venue, and how I was a sh!t engineer, I checked everything and (eventually) found out that the earth wire in his amps plug was disconnected, he kept saying that it shouldn't matter and it was still my fault, but it does matter, and it certainly wasn't my fault. I never had any other problem when I worked there, but I still aways bring a phase tester in my gig-bag and check before I touch any mic in any venue.
4.
nice bass
I know, and I really do regret having to sell it. It certainly won't be the last one I own.
5. Send me a PM and we can sort something out.
6. I'm going in tomorrow, hoping the finish is errr, finished. Then the new pup can go in, hopefully I'll have a few pics tomorrow and a finished bass early next week.
7. It is with a heavy heart that I am selling my beloved L2500T, I've been trying to sell my American L5500 for a while, but it seems the L2500s are more in demand. Truth be told I prefer the Tribby L2500 than the L5500, but one has to go, I'm in a flat and, as patient as she is, my beloved insists on one-in-one-out and as my Stingray project is nearly finished one has to go. The bass is in good condition, it's got surface scratching on the back, very light though and only visible at certain angles. There is also some paint missing in the recesses for the neck bolts, I've tried to show this in a photo. It's a beautiful blue-burst with a rosewood neck and it's got 2 week old Ernie Balls on it. I'd like £400 or very near offer, and collection would definitely be preferred, I don't want it to be damaged by parcelforce or even worse lost. I'd also prefer someone to try before buying, as I love it but someone else may not. I'm in Edinburgh, so I can meet at train station/city centre etc. I've added phone pics but I can get some decent pics up if anyone wants them. This is the pic of the neck bolts, some slight paint flaking inside the recesses Hope you like it as much as I do.
8.
nobody buys my stuff
Aye, I've bought loads of stuff with no problem but I can't seem to sell anything. I suppose it might help if I tried.
9. I used uv strings for 1 gig, they look great and sound fine, but the coating is slightly sticky or tacky, so they hurt by fingers. I took them off after that.
10. I don't have anything aganst lighter basses, but my TRB is my only light bass, and it plays lovely, but I don't really love the sound. I guess I just like Fender-y basses, and have learned to put up with the weight, I had a lighter Japanese Precision and it was't nearly as nice as my 72, but I guess it's an unfair comparison.
11. I see alot of people here have an issue with heavy basses, all my favourite basses are really heavy. I always assumed that part of the nice tone of my Precision, G&L and Stingray came from the weight. I realise all of these are Leo basses, but from what I've heard of Warwicks they can be pretty hefty too. Am I totally wrong assuming the heavy wood is part of the character of the bass? I have a very thick strap, and I wear my bass slightly above my waist, so I have no problem with the weight, apart from when carrying the bass(es). Sorry if I'm opening up an old can of worms.
12. Just found out these guys are coming to Edinburgh next month. Love it Which lead me to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xgmSfiy_tY
13. After a couple of years wearing a mask I don't really need to see the neck anymore, I'm just used to it.
14. Mine is rosewood, a little jealous of yours, it looks great.
15. That's lovely.
16. I think he wants them because of our flamboyant on stage look, they might suit this band, but I also play in other bands, and I don't like them generally so I'll skip it. This is how I dress on stage, probably not to most peoples taste either.
17. Yea, he has blue LEDs in his, he wants to put orange in mine. In the front of the fingerboard, not the side, so to be honest, I was never going to get it done, I just wanted to see what other BCers thought.
18. So most people agree then. I guess I'll steer clear.
19. I don't see the point in LEDs on the fingerboard, I could understand them on the top fret markers. The guitar player in my band wants to put them in my bass (free) but I don't think I want them, do you think I should get them or just say no?
20. Hahahaha, that's amazing.
21.
An SR5 is definitely going to be my next project, with or without Graphite.
The first bit is on the way
22. PMs replied to.
23. yea, it's the original MMSR5 one, PM me if you want it.
24. I have not used this bass in ages, but had it at rehearsal last night, it's a great bass in good condition, but I'm not using it at all. I need to sell it now, so what's it worth?
25. I went to see it again today, still getting clear coats, but the finish should be finished this week. I've settled on the switching combinations finally, it will be 2 nordstrand pups, with John East pre, a 3 way pup selector, and a single coil/humbucker switch for each pup. Chris is going to remove a small dent in the neck using a soldering iron, apparently?! It's a small dent at the bottom of the fingerboard at the dusty end, and I've never noticed it it while playing, but if it can be fixed it may as well be. I'm going to stick with the black scratch plate for now, but may go for a sabre/jazz style control plate and scratchplate combination in the future, or maybe just a different colour scratchplate. I'll leave it as is for now and decide about that later. In the mean time, I have the original pickup, scratchplate (with hole for coil tap switch) and preamp to sell, anyone have any idea what they're worth? I would keep them, but there's no going back now.
